"Be soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place."
- Kurt Vonnegut
Letting the sweetness I see spill onto the canvas, candied land is a culmination of my practice for the last few years. These works stem from an early study of straight forward landscapes followed by a Mark Rothkoinspired land.sky.heaven series; which explored a broken down, simplified approach to a landscape with a milky, dramatic heaven hovering above each piece. The combination of these two concepts lead me to a gentle, primitive landscape grounded by my signature red grid that appears in and out of this body of work. Each landscape explores undulating topography highlighted by bright, offbeat color pallettes that feel sweet yet subtle. Each piece holds a hazy, far away horizon line that bleeds into vast, translucent skies spotted with bright, refracted bokeh light. The juxtaposition of the primitive topography and the misty, refined approach to the sky create a gentle tension; amplifying the intrigue and drawing in the viewer. candied land will be released Wednesday, February 1st at 10am CST at laureldawncornerstudio . com .

She has been working in the design field for over 10 years and painting in the margins of her chaotic and beautiful life as a wife and mother. In 2020, Laurel-Dawn took the leap into being a fine artist, full time.
Laurel-Dawn has always drawn inspiration from the lines made from her Creator; the natural lines of a rigid mountainside, or the dramatic curves seen in leaves and flower petals. She strives to glorify beauty that already exists from her small corner of the world; embracing the delicate, yet messy process of being an artist.
Laurel-Dawn currently resides in Homewood, Alabama with her husband and two boys.
