Bob Hennefer INTERIM GENERAL

We hope you’re staying cool and making the most of these warm summer days! It’s been wonderful to see so many of you enjoying the pool, the golf course, and all the exciting events happening around the club.

A special shout-out to our KE Campers, and all the juniors participating in our Golf and Tennis Academies—your energy brings the club to life! And of course, a huge thank you to our dedicated staff who work tirelessly to coordinate these fantastic programs.

As we head into August, here are a few important reminders:

Dining Reservations

While we always welcome walk-ins, making a dinner reservation helps us provide the best possible dining experience for everyone. It allows our team to prepare and serve you more efficiently and with greater attention to detail.

Golf Course Etiquette

Let’s all do our part to keep the course in top condition:

• Fix your ball marks

• Replace your divots

• Rake the sand traps

Our golf course is spectacular, thanks to our grounds department led by John Slade; let’s do our part and keep it that way!

Pool Safety

MANAGER

Our lifeguards and pool staff are here for everyone’s safety. Please follow all posted rules and be respectful of their instructions. Your cooperation ensures a fun and safe environment for all.

DIRECTOR OF MEMBERSHIP

Is it just me or is this summer flying by faster than ever? We’re already in the final week of KE Camp and our Junior Golf & Tennis Academy, and while I’ll miss the buzz of activity from all the little ones running around, I’m so grateful for the joy they brought to the club. There’s nothing quite like hearing giggles echo from the pool or seeing new friendships form on the courts. It’s a reminder that Laurel Creek is truly a place where all generations can make lifelong memories.

This past month has also brought a wave of new families to membership. I can honestly say that getting to know them is the best part of my job. I love meeting people during the application process, learning their stories, and then seeing them connect with others once they join. Watching new friendships blossom is a beautiful thing and it’s what Laurel Creek is all about.

Speaking of beautiful things, I’m thrilled to share a little extra joy this month with the announcement of two very special arrivals to the Laurel Creek family:

• Remko Alexander Van den Hooff was born on April 28th, 2025, to proud parents Bert and Reagan. This is their first child and they are absolutely over the moon.

• Marin Grace O’Brien was born on May 30th, 2025 to loving parents Matt and Andrea. Marin is already adored by her big sister Kit, who will be turning 2 very soon.

We’re so excited to watch these sweet little ones grow up at the club, and I’m happy to include their adorable photos on my page this month.

As August winds down, I hope you’ll find a few more chances to soak up summer, whether it’s a cocktail on the patio, a dip in the pool, or a round of twilight golf with friends. Fall will be here soon enough, but there’s still plenty of sunshine to enjoy. See you around the club!

John Slade

DIRECTOR OF GOLF COURSE OPERATIONS

There is often confusion as to when a divot should be replaced, and when the sand mix should be used. In an effort to clear things up, let’s keep it simple:

If your divot doesn’t explode, and has some bit of soil with it, please replace it.

There are many variables that come into play in determining if the divot will live or not. This obviously includes the weather, and the location (slope vs swale). However, even in the summer, there’s a decent chance that a replaced divot will survive.

Below you can see the divot on the right was replaced and has already knitted back in nicely. In contrast, the divot on the left is, to be kind, a real head-scratcher.

So save that sand mix for the times when your divot can’t be replaced. And please don’t get too fancy--we’ve seen well intentioned players make a sandwich with a sprinkle of divot mix, the divot itself, and a bit more mix on top for good measure. Remember, more isn’t always better.
