Study Completed 2020

This series of design studies for cinema spaces was in completed in immediate response to COVID-19 conditions.

Both locations had a shared goal of exploring “distancing” with the concept that we do not want to socially distance - we want to physically distance while retaining social connection.

Saudi Arabia studies looked at outdoor pop-up cinemas in both a drive-in and walk-up format using shipping containers, easily accessed low-cost materials, and graphic markings defining spatial distance.

New York studies looked at renovating existing enclosed theaters to include re-alignment of services and pedestrian pathways to limit contact between visitors.

In 2022, The Family Conservancy purchased a building for their new family services location near their existing site as part of the Juniper Garden’s Children’s Campus in Kansas City, Kansas.

Budget-mindful renovations included play therapy and staff support spaces beyond private counseling offices with an emphasis on safety, privacy, and health.

Early vision and programming conversations allowed the design to be specific to the needs of both the families served and the mental health staff.
