Welcome to the Annual JDRF Promise Ball Gala – ONE NIGHT – Unmask the Cure!

We are thrilled to share this special evening with our friends, family and guests and want to thank you for your generosity in the effort to find a cure for type 1 diabetes (T1D).

We are grateful to the JDRF Desert Southwest Chapter members for their unwavering generosity and passion in the pursuit of finding a cure for all of our loved ones who struggle with T1D. In our hearts, we know that JDRF’s commitment and stewardship will lead us to a cure. We would also like to acknowledge and thank every volunteer, donor and sponsor whose extraordinary effort and generosity makes this wonderful evening possible.

We are proud to recognize this year’s Honorees – the eleven past Presidents of the Desert Southwest Phoenix Board of Directors – The President’s

JDRF and Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) JDRF IS THE LEADING GLOBAL ORGANIZATION FOCUSED on T1D research, funding the best, most cutting edge research in the world.

T1D IS AN AUTOIMMUNE DISEASE in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, a hormone that enables people to get energy from food.

T1D AFFECTS CHILDREN AND ADULTS AT ANY AGE. It strikes suddenly, causing dependence on insulin for life and carrying the constant threat of devastating complications.

T1D NEEDS CONSTANT ATTENTION. People with T1D carefully balance insulin doses with food and activity 24/7 and test their blood sugar six or more times daily. Despite this vigilance they are still at risk for dangerous and possibly life-threatening, high or low blood sugar levels.

T1D IS NOT CURED BY INSULIN. While insulin injections or infusions allow a person with T1D to stay alive, they do not cure the disease, nor do they necessarily prevent the possibility of the diseases’ serious effects.

Funds raised this evening will support JDRF’s patient-focused research to prevent, treat and cure T1D. Thank you for making a difference.

Tonight represents months of hard work and dedication from JDRF volunteers and staff to support diabetes research and increase awareness of the seriousness of this disease for millions of people.

As someone who has lived with type 1 diabetes for nearly 40 years, I am more convinced than ever that JDRF is funding the research that will create a world without the disease. art day Each year children, families and friends of JDRF come together, put their creative hats on and make memorable gifts to present to our guests the night of the One Night – Unmask the Cure Gala. Art Day was held at JDRF offices on December 7, 2013 and continued with National Charity League members working on projects off-site as well.

The children painted personalized ceramic hearts to be used as a part of guest stewardship. We hope you enjoy the masterpieces created especially for the One Night – Unmask the Cure Gala.
