Launton has a Spring Clean Day

On 15 March a group of villagers gathered at the Parish Hall for the annual Village Spring Clean, organised by the Parish Council. People were issued with high-viz jackets, gloves, litter pickers, and bags for rubbish and recycling and covered almost all of the village streets. At the end of the pick, volunteers returned to the Parish Hall for refreshments provided by Launton WI.

Comments from the pickers included, “We collected a lot of rubbish and litter from the verges on the bridge into the village. Why are people so mucky?!” “Around the Playing Field we gathered two bags of sweet bags and wrappers, and drink bottles and cans.” “There was a surprising amount of rubbish around The Timbers and Launton Mews.” “Most of Launton was quite clean - mainly cigarette butts and bits of vapes.”

The front cover of this issue features the youngest litter picker, who really enjoyed the refreshments at the end. The photo above shows some of the pickers, and three of the Refreshment crew.

The cover shows Harriet Whitburn at the Village Spring Clean on 15 March, outside the Hall with some of the early collections. "We start them young in Launton". See above for a short report. Cover designed by Matt Hill
