Gigaclear and fibre installed - an update

Gigaclear are installing fibre cabling in the village (though it will probably not go far outside the village envelope). They have said that information about their work will also be sent via email to all residents who have previously registered their details with Gigaclear. Other interested residents can also register for regular permit updates at Gigaclear.com/mycommunity

We asked some questions of Gigaclear, and spoke to Rezia Khan, who is their Community Engagement Executive. Here are her responses. Look out for more updates in future issues of Launton Lines.

Exactly what are you at Gigaclear offering for Launton? What speed are you offering users? We will be offering full fibre to the premises (FTTP). This will then allow speeds of up to 900mbs download speed and also an upload speed of up to 900mbps. This all depends on each individual customer and what their needs are. Packages start from 200mbps to up to 900mbps.

What will be the cost to users in Launton? Will there be any up-front connection charges? What will be the subscription cost? Promotions are run regularly for new customers so when they are all ready to go live they can go online and check what offers are currently out there, or they can ring our Customer Loyalty team at our Customer Operations department. There are no upfront connection charges.

Do you have a schedule of work for all streets in Launton? Can you share this? When works are scheduled in the Parish Council will be made aware [The current listings from Gigaclear are at https://www.launtonpc.gov.uk/village-news/gigaclear-works]. Any resident who has registered interest will also get personal updates on the build progress. When do you plan to complete the project? When will your network go live? Currently we have no exact dates as to when the project will be completed and when customers will go live. Updates will available as soon as we have them. We are hoping for completion by Q4 of 2022 but again all is ‘Subject to change’.

Where will your distribution boxes be located? As soon as we have the first build update we will let the Parish Council know when the main access cabinet will land and where it has been permitted to go.

When you excavate your trenches will they generally be (a) on roadways? (b) on pavements/pathways? (c) on verges? How will you reinstate after excavation? Trenches are normally on the verge of the road/pavement - each build is different. Our build team is always audited by the Highway Agencies on a regular basis to ensure all build meets their requirements. Trenches are filled up as we build along, and we have been given up to 6 months to have all work reinstated.
