Bursaries Appeal 2021/22

Transform five young lives Since our Inspiring Minds campaign was launched in 2014, the annual Bursaries Appeal has funded bursaries for 30 young people to join Latymer Upper School. We are making good progress towards the Campaign’s wider goal of offering bursaries to 1 in 4 of our students but we need your help to reach our ambitious target by 2024, the 400th anniversary of the Latymer Foundation. The Bursaries Appeal relies on gifts of all sizes and each one makes an impact.

By supporting this Appeal, you can help us increase access to a Latymer education and stay true to our founder’s vision so that we can offer this exceptional opportunity to more talented young people, regardless of their background. This year, your support is more important to us than ever as we navigate the aftermath of the pandemic, which has disproportionately impacted the most disadvantaged in our community.

By making a gift today, you can change everything for a young person with great potential Your gift to the Bursaries Appeal could help make the dream of a Latymer education a reality for five young people, thereby transforming their life prospects. See the back cover to read about two Latymerians who benefited from a bursary supported by the Latymer community and the difference it has made to their lives.

Please join the hundreds of members of our community who give to the Bursaries Appeal to help us reach our goal of needs-blind entry to Latymer so that our only criteria will be ability and potential, not ability to pay.

Bursary recipients and their stories

Isaac (2020)

Apple (2020)

Latymer opened up a whole world of possibilities for me. I was given so many options to find out what I really loved and was allowed to focus on music in my last year. The increase in the number of bursary students since the launch of the Inspiring Minds campaign has changed the character of the school for the better. The proof that social mobility and inclusion works is right here at Latymer.

For me, a Latymer education has been life-changing. I believe that the Latymer bursary has given me the social and personal confidence to succeed. Being taught how to think independently and creatively in a diverse cohort of students has allowed me to grow as a person as well as giving me the tools to succeed in whatever job I wish to pursue.

A talented musician, one of Isaac’s school highlights was reaching the percussion category final of the BBC Young Musician competition in 2020. Isaac is currently studying at the Royal College of Music and credits both the inspirational teaching and performance opportunities at Latymer as being integral to his choice.

When Apple joined Latymer’s Sixth Form, she says that she lacked confidence in her own abilities and felt “completely out of [her] depth.” She credits her “incredible teachers, who were more than willing to provide the help I needed.” Apple left Latymer having achieved two A*s and two As at A Level, and she “will forever be grateful for the relentless support and emotional encouragement of my teachers. Now I am top of my class in Art History at St Andrews and I owe this to my wonderful teachers, who gave me the skills and confidence I have needed my entire life”.
