IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR COMMERCIAL DRIVERS TO OBTAIN A CDL RENEWAL IN ILLINOIS WHEN THEIR INITIAL CREDENTIALS ARE CLOSE TO EXPIRATION. A COMMERCIAL LICENSE IN ILLINOIS IS VALID FOR UP TO 4 YEARS, BUT THERE ARE CERTAIN RESTRICTIONS THAT ARE BASED ON AGE. TO RENEW A COMMERCIAL DRIVER’S LICENSE IN ILLINOIS MOTORISTS MUST RETAKE THE APPROPRIATE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS TESTS BASED ON THEIR VEHICLE CLASS AND ENDORSEMENTS. VISION SCREENINGS ARE ALSO REQUIRED FOR A RENEWAL.
WHEN TO RENEW YOUR CDL LICENSE IN ILLINOIS CDL holders in Illinois must obtain a CDL renewal every 4 years. This is the case for drivers between the ages of 21 and 80. The license expires on their birthdays.
Individuals who are younger than 21 years of age must apply for a CDL license renewal 3 months after turning 21 years old. On the other hand, drivers who are 81 to 86 years of age must renew every 2 years. In addition, those who are 87 years of age and older must requalify under CDL renewal requirements yearly. The Secretary of State’s office mail renewal letters to all commercial drivers 60 to 90 days prior to the license expiration. However, individuals are permitted to renew a commercial driver’s license 1 year before it expires. Drivers who only permitted to carry their CDL for 1 year, however, may renew 6 months prior to license expiration.
CDL RENEWAL TESTING REQUIREMENTS IN ILLINOIS There are several CDL renewal testing requirements for commercial drivers in Illinois. First, all drivers who renew a commercial driver’s license in person are required to complete a vision exam. Some CDL holders are required to pass written tests if they have incurred any penalties or violations on their CDL driving records. In addition, all Illinois drivers, including commercial drivers, are required to pass a written exam every 8 years. However, motorists who have not collected any traffic convictions may be exempted. Those with certain traffic convictions may be required to take a driving exam as well. Commercial drivers who are 75 years of age or older must pass their complete written and driving tests in addition to the vision test in order to acquire a CDL license renewal. The skills and knowledge tests must be conducted in the appropriate vehicle class. These tests require an appointment at an Illinois SOS facility. All drivers are expected to pay the appropriate fees for their class and endorsements.

Did you know that there’s one simple thing everyone can do to help firefighters, ambulances, and law enforcement officers provide emergency assistance as quickly as possible? Just Move Right for Sirens & Lights. Every year in the United States there are 16,000 collisions involving fire department emergency vehicles responding to or returning from incidents. These collisions result in over 1,000 firefighter injuries and 50 deaths. Many, if not most, of these accidents would be avoided if everyone would just Move Right for Sirens & Lights. The law is very specific: Drivers must yield the right-of-way to an emergency vehicle. Firefighters work hard to avoid vehicle collisions by driving slowly when traveling against traffic, coming to a complete stop at intersections, etc. However, the cooperation of ALL vehicles on the roadway is essential.
SIMPLE RULES TO FOLLOW
There are some simple rules to follow when you’re on the road and encounter an emergency vehicle whose lights are flashing, whether the siren is sounding or not.
DO pull to the right and come to a complete stop. If you’re traveling on a high-speed road or if there is no room to stop, slow down as much as possible. If you are in the left lane, DO pull over into the right lane as traffic in the lane to your right moves over. If you cannot move to the right because of another vehicle or obstacle, just stop. Your action will let the driver of the emergency vehicle know what you are doing and allow the driver to anticipate where to drive. When an emergency vehicle approaches you from behind while you are stopped at an intersection, DO stay where you are unless you can pull to the right. On a two or four-lane highway or street without barriers, both sides of traffic should pull to the right If the emergency vehicle is traveling on the opposite direction of a divided highway or street, you do not need to pull over. If you are on a divided highway where traffic in front of you is at a standstill and you see emergency lights behind you, move to the right if you can; stay where you are if you can’t. NEVER move into the center divider—you could be moving into the path of an approaching emergency vehicle.
DO stay at least 500 feet behind any emergency vehicle. DO be extremely careful when driving by or around a motor vehicle accident
or any situation where emergency vehicles are parked and the firefighters are working.
DO NOT move to the left—ever. DO NOT play your radio so loudly that you are unable to hear sirens. DO NOT stop in the middle lane when there is room to pull to
the right.
DO NOT pull to the left into the center lane, the center divider or left turn lane. DO NOT race ahead to make the green light or turn before the emergency vehicle gets there. DO NOT turn quickly to the left onto a street or driveway. DO NOT drive through a red light or stop sign when an
emergency vehicle approaches from behind.
DO NOT disregard the presence of the emergency vehicle by continuing to drive. Following these simple rules will help everyone involved in an emergency: those who desperately need help and those who are hurrying to help them. Truckers Against Trafficking is raising up a mobile army of transportation professionals to assist law enforcement in the recognition a in order to aid in the recovery of victims and the arrest of their perpetrators.
The Freedom Drivers Project
The Freedom Drivers Project (FDP) is a first-of-its-kind, mobile exhibit serving as a remarkable tool to educate members of the trucking industry, law enforcement and general public about domestic sex trafficking and how the trucking industry is combating it. From the compelling exterior imagery on this 48-foot trailer to the interior’s video monitors and actual trafficking artifacts from women and children who had been enslaved by traffickers, this trailer serves as a powerful education tool for many. It also celebrates the real Truckers Against Trafficking who are working to drive change in this area, and connects deeply with visitors, both intellectually and emotionally, to drive greater awareness about the problems and the simple action steps anyone can take to help. Shipping Partners Program
The Shipping Partners Program seeks to engage major purchasers of shipping to encourage their carriers to implement Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) materials as a regular part of training and orientation. Building on the corporate social responsibility movement, and leveraging purchasing power, TAT is utilizing pre-existing relationships between shippers and their carriers to train even more drivers. Coalition Builds bring law enforcement agencies at all levels of government together with the general managers of truck stops, representatives of trucking companies and state trucking associations to provide extensive training resulting in a significant increase in anti-trafficking activity in a local area. Industry Training Program
The Industry Training Program is TAT’s core program that drives the biggest impact by training hundreds of thousands of industry members about the realities of domestic sex trafficking and how the trucking industry can combat it. By speaking all over the country, utilizing a robust social media program, and via our industryspecific materials, TAT partners with trucking schools, the carriers themselves, the truck stop industry, as well as manufacturers and state and national trucking associations in order to spread the word. TAT training has resulted in a significant increase of reports of possible trafficking to the national hotline from truck drivers, which has resulted in victim recoveries and the arrest of criminals. State-Agency Initiatives
Our State Agency Initiatives revolve around partnerships with state agencies across the nation to conduct trainings and adopt policies and protocols that capitalize on their intersections with commercial vehicle sectors, as well as potential victims. To that end, we created a training specifically designed for Department of Transportation employees, or for any agency employee that works at a licensing counter (i.e. Department of Revenue, Department of Licensing, Department of Motor Vehicles). In addition, by leveraging the Iowa Motor Vehicle Enforcement (Iowa MVE) model, we activate the appropriate government agencies in outreach work to the trucking and busing industries, insofar as the Iowa MVE Model organizes the state patrol and other law enforcement entities to utilize entry points into the trucking and busing industries to spread the TAT antitrafficking message. Busing on the Lookout
Busing on the Lookout (BOTL) equips members of the busing industry (both commercial and school) to recognize and report potential human trafficking situations. Traffickers often utilize buses to transport their victims; they recruit potential victims out of bus terminals and bus stops; and at times school is one of the last places children, who are being trafficked, are seen before disappearing entirely. If every bus driver and bus station employee could be trained to identify the signs of human trafficking and how to report it effectively, TAT believes more victims will receive assistance and more traffickers will be arrested. Model Replication
In an effort to scale sustain ability, TAT is seeking to replicate its model across borders, modes and industries. TAT’s model is highly replicable, due to the way it creates pathways, which expands its reach, and secondly, the way it turns people who are ordinarily bystanders into a trained and vigilant army that recognizes what they are seeing and know how to take action against a crime. This removes the traffickers’ best defense – ignorance or apathy on the part of people who might see it happening. By using TAT’s model, every person, working within his/her sphere of influence, can play a critical role in fighting this crime by effecting social change – whether in seeing or reporting the crime, introducing the concept and training to others, being the catalyst for changing company policy or becoming a “TAT champion” and working to raise either personal, corporate or industry involvement to the next level. Law Enforcement Training
To ensure that law enforcement and trucking are aligned in the fight against human trafficking, TAT provides in-depth training to law enforcement. This training, co-taught by a TAT field trainer/survivor leader, enables both trucking and law enforcement to hear the same messaging and see each other as a reliable resource in the disruption of trafficking rings, the recognition of victims and the arrest of perpetrators. Truckers Against Trafficking is committed to utilizing industry overlaps to ensure that every truck driver in America is TAT trained. The energy industry intersects with trucking through midstream transportation, heavy machinery all the way down to fuel logistics. Once we began exploring these overlaps, we found that an industry-specific approach could benefit the energy industry as well. VERY IMPORTANT!
When fueling LNG Tractors, be aware which buttons stop the fueling process and which one’s are the Emergency Stop. It’s happened that the Emergency Stop was used instead of the Stop button on the pump, the illustration on the left is the Emergency Stop and should be used in the event of an emergency only! The illustration on the right is the Pump Stop button which you would use to stop fueling a tractor, by using the Emergency Stop instead of the Stop Button the entire system needs to be reset which takes about an hour, also the number of people able to perform this are limited which will delay the fueling process even longer. If your not sure ask a fueler or supervisor which is the proper stop button to push. #9
