Red Nose Day was on August 9th, we celebrated together by holding a disco and special afternoon tea.

Message From Beck Hello Families In July the Joeys Room participated in National Tree Planting Day. The Educators and children took a bus to Newborough and then we rolled up our sleeves and helped plant trees in College Park. The Lions Club kindly supplied a sausage sizzle.

We would like to thank Cee for being a valued member of our team for the past 16 months and introduce Maddy Turpin. Maddy will stepping into Cee’s role as the Joey’s Room Leader whist recruitment takes place over the coming weeks.

Preschool News

Baby Belle Photography From Monday 9 September to Friday 13 September Lee from Baby Belle Photography will be coming to the centre to take photos of the children. Lee will be visiting each day to ensure that each child gets photos taken on the days that they are booked into care.

Every family should have received their forms which need to back by Wednesday 4 September 2019 if you would like photos taken of your child. It is not compulsory for parents to purchase photos or have photos of their child taken, however if you wish to do so a registration form must be completed.

Sun Smart Season Spring is here. This means we need to follow our Sun Smart practices. All children and educators are required to wear hats that protect their face, neck and ears, i.e. legionnaire, bucket or broad-brimmed hats (no caps).

Protective clothing is also recommended for outdoor play. Dress your child in clothing that covers as much skin as possible e.g. elbow length tops with a higher neckline or collar (no singlets or straps) and longer style shorts or skirts. Densely woven fabrics are best.

Green Koalas This month we watched the moon landing on our smart TV and talked about the earth, the moon, and space. We celebrated Science Week by starting 3 science experiments. Our excursion to Gippsland Water is on Wednesday 4 September. We will look at the vortex centre; learn about water treatment, water cycles and where water comes from before it gets to the tap. Father’s Night is on Thursday 5 September and the children have been busy creating some fantastic things for their Dad’s, Pops, and Uncles. The children are most excited about having pizza and are putting their orders in already. A big thank you to the committee for providing the pizza.

Triple P Positive Parenting Program Encouraging Positive Behaviours explores some of the reasons why children may not do as they are told, and gives you practical suggestions to help you manage problems. The skills children need are discussed and parents are introduced to private parenting strategies to help prevent problems.

2020 Preschool Enrolments If your child turns 4 by 30th April 2020 and you have not yet enrolled them you can submit an application online through Latrobe City Councils Central Registration Scheme at https://www.enrolnow.com.au/latrobe_city _application/ First round offers have gone out and been accepted.

Families looking to swap their session days will be placed on a swap-list and Second Round Offers will be in early September.

Placements for late enrolments will be offered in order of receipt of application where places remain available.

Babies and children need iron for their brains to develop normally. Babies are born with a reserve of iron, which comes from their mother’s blood while they are in the womb. For the first 6 months of life, babies will get what they need from their mother’s milk or iron fortified infant formula.

Babies aged six months to one year – a baby’s iron stores run low in the second half of their first year. At around six months, two servings a day of plain, ironfortified infant cereal mixed with breastmilk or infant formula can start to be given. Plain pureed meats can soon be offered with other solids, once your baby is used to the cereal.

Immunisation History Statements

The ‘No Jab, No Play’ law means that an up to date Immunisation History Statement needs to be in each child’s file at the centre. Every time your child receives a vaccine/s please remember to drop off a copy at reception or email it to telc@latrobe.vic.gov.au Immunisation History Statements from the Australian Immunisation Register can be printed form your myGov account. You can also get a copy of the Statement by visiting a Medicare service centre or by phoning the AIR enquiries line on 1800 653 809. 

Talk Like A Pirate Day

4 September recognises and celebrates the work of Australia's educators in early learning services for their wonderful contribution to the wellbeing and healthy development of the young children in their care.
