In the late 60s, the Mexican government encouraged mass tourism to earn foreign currency; since it grew much faster than exports, thus the idea for Cancún was born, It was founded in 1970.

In 1973, the Cancún International Airport was opened, and some airlines were operating regularly.

The first hotel to be built was Playa Blanca, at Km 3.5 on Boulevard Kukulcán,

by Engineer Diego de la Peña. It began operating in 1974 with 42 luxury rooms.

aguas cristalinas color turquesa The name Cancún in the Maya language (kaan kun) means “pot” or “snakepit.” Cancún was originally a thin strip of land in the shape of a seven, an island separated from the continent by two channels, and housed several lagoons within.

El nombre de Cancún, en lengua maya (kaan kun), significa “olla” o “nido de serpientes”. Cancún era originalmente una fina lengua de tierra en forma de siete, una isla, puesto que dos canales la separaban del continente, y en su interior alberga varias lagunas.

Maya Museum. Opened in the last stage of the Hotel Zone development. It has the largest collection of pieces from the legendary civilization settled in Quintana Roo.

El Mirador or Playa Delfines. The gateway to the Mexican Caribbean’s sea. One of the most recognized and popular beaches. Its panoramic view is postcard perfect!

Isla Mujeres is a must for those who come to Cancún, with white sand beaches charming bars and restaurants. Simply board a ferry from Hotel Zone or Puerto Juarez.

El Rey Ruins, the only Mayan ruins in the Hotel Zone. Inside, a niche was found where supposedly the sculpture of a crowned head of Mayan royalty was placed.

Museo Maya. El museo abrió sus puertas en la última etapa de Zona Hotelera. Cuenta con la colección más importante de piezas de la legendaria civilización .

El Mirador o Playa Delfines. Puerta al Caribe mexicano. Una de las playas más reconocidas y concurridas de todo Cancún. ¡Su vista panorámica es de postal!

Isla Mujeres es un must para quienes llegan a Cancún. Con playas de blanca arena, encantadores bares y restaurantes. Aborda un ferry desde Zona Hotelera o Puerto Juárez.

Ruinas de El Rey, el único vestigio maya en Zona Hotelera. En su interior se encontró un nicho donde se presume estaba colocada la cabeza de un personaje con corona.

El Meco, 7 km from downtown Cancún, was an archaeological site of the pre-Columbian Maya culture.

Hacienda Mundaca. Built by Fermin Mundaca (pirate and slave trader), Hacienda Mundaca involves a love story between this buccaneer and a native nicknamed The Trigueña. It is considered one of the main historical sites of the island.

La Cruz de la Bahía. This cross was placed in commemoration of the founding of Isla Mujeres (August 17, 1857). It is 3 meters high and is at a depth of 12 meters. It is made of bronze and is located at Manchones reef. Divers and fishermen descend to pray.

Arrecife El Farito. Uno de los arrecifes que forman parte del Parque Marino de Isla Mujeres que no puedes dejar de visitar. Ahí encontrarás gran cantidad de especies marinas, de espectacular colorido. Es ideal para practicar esnórquel o buceo, y hay numerosas embarcaciones que ofrecen este tour.

La Cruz de la Bahía. Se colocó en conmemoración de la fundación de Isla Mujeres (17 de agosto de 1857). Mide 3 metros de alto, a 12 metros de profundidad. Está hecha en bronce y se ubica en el arrecife Manchones. Buzos y pescadores devotos descienden al lugar para encomendarse a ella.

El Cielo. In Punta Sur park, a natural surprise awaits for your visit. In the Colombia Lagoon, you can enjoy the mangrove scenery, bird-watching, and even get to El Cielo and snorkel among starfish. A very special adventure.

San Gervasio. The island’s most important archaeological site.

Place of worship for the Mayan goddess of fertility, Ixchel. It is a must-see if you want a complete panorama of the island and its significance for the ancient Maya.

Parque Chankanaab. It is a great monument to the nature of the island. Protected refuge for marine life along the western coast, Chankanaab’s sea is perfect for snorkeling or diving. It was declared a National Park in 1980.

The museum. Is small but has a lot of wonderful exhibits and presentations on screens with the history of the island. It also has examples of the famous coral reefs on display, as well as pieces from the time of the Spanish galleons and English pirates.

Puuc route / Ruta Puuc Ruta Puuc is the name given to a 41 km network of secondary roads through Yucatán state along which you can visit part of México’s Mayan cultural heritage. The route is marked with signs. Important sites are included on the route: Uxmal, Kabah, and Labaná. Puuc is the Mayan word for “hills”, and the Puuc region of the Yucatán is an area of small rolling hills on a península which is otherwise quite flat.

La Ruta Puuc es el nombre dado a una red de 41 km de carreteras secundarias en el estado de Yucatán a lo largo de la cual se puede visitar parte del patrimonio cultural del México maya. Before the arrival of the Spanish to our land, there were vines, which were wild.

Wine could have been made with them, but it would be harsh and unwelcome to palate.

Hernán Cortés, having been named Governor of New Spain, signed an ordinance in 1524 establishing that each neighbor who had the means of distribution should plant shoots 1.000 per 100 Indians every year. Thus, in addition to Mexico City, the vine spread to Puebla, Michoacán, Guanajuato and Oaxaca.

Antes de la llegada de los españoles a nuestras tierras, ya existían vides, las cuales eran silvestres. Con ellas se podría haber llegado a elaborar vino, pero sería áspero y poco grato al paladar.

Hernán Cortés, habiendo sido nombrado Gobernador de la Nueva España, firma una ordenanza en 1524 estableciendo que cada vecino que tuviera medios de repartimiento debería plantar 1,000 sarmientos por cada 100 indígenas, cada año. De esta manera, además de la Cd. De México, la vid se propagó a Puebla, Michoacán, Guanajuato y Oaxaca.

In 1595, wine production in Mexico had grown in importance and began to affect the import of wine from Spain, which is why King Philip II issued a Law in XVIII prohibiting planting vines and exploitation, however the existing vineyards could be used. This slowed production but didin’t stop it. The missionaries refused to comply.

Santo Tomás de Aquino is also among the pioneer missions, founded in 1791, it is the oldest winery in Baja California. Don Angelo Cetto arrived from Italy in 1928 and in 1963 he founded Cetto Wines becoming a pioneer in the Guadalupe Valley.

During the 80’s, two events transformed the outlook for the type of wines produced in Mexico: the opening the Bodega Monte Xanic by 4 friends who crystallized a dream by acquiring excellent vineyards, with the best equipment to produce the best wine at a pricer never imaginred for a Mexican wine, it was a total success.

Durante los 80’s, dos eventos que transformaron el panorama del estilo de vinos producidos en México han sido definitivamente la apertura de la Bodega Monte Xanic, cuatro amigos que cristalizaron un sueño adquiriendo excelentes viñedos, con el mejor equipo para producir excelentes vinos que salieron a un precio jamás pensado para un vino mexicano. Fue un total éxito.

Domecq Mexico decided to venture into the wine market in 1972 and founded its Guadalupe Wine Plant, getting the government to name its location as the Calafia Valley, also within the Valle de Guadalupe.

The wider fairways are found in this area, no out of bounds make it a friendly course, and par 3 at the15th hole has a unique flavor, where a trap at left and the wind from the sea side, make it difficult to land the ball on the green, as it is at an elevation of 30 yards on 4 sides.

A golf course wich callenges players of all levels especially in the holes 7 & 12. The golf course offers a perfect blend between nature and modernity surrounded by an ecological reserve that extends to 183 acres with stunning holes along canals and two spectacular holes right in front of the Caribbean Sea.

The first golf course in the region and which retains a special tradition for locals, this area has a par 3 at the 14th hole with a sea view and Isla Mujeres in the background, make it unique, but the wind is short, so plays an important role in the selection of the stick in this shot.

Los fairways más amplios los encontramos en este campo. Sin out of bounds lo hacen un campo amigable, y su hoyo 15 par 3 tiene un singular sabor: una trampa de lado izquierdo y con el viento del mar lateral hacen difícil aterrizar la bola en el green, ya que está en una elevación de 30 yardas.

Un campo que desafía a todo tipo de jugador sobre todo en sus hoyos 7 y 12. Tiene una mezcla perfecta entre naturaleza y modernidad, rodeado por una reserva ecológica que se extiende a 74 hectáreas con increíbles hoyos junto a canales y dos espectaculares con vista al Mar Caribe.

El primer campo de golf de la región y el que conserva una tradición especial por los locales. Este campo tiene un par 3 en el hoyo 14 con una vista al mar e Isla Mujeres en el fondo, que lo hacen único.

Es corto, pero el viento juega un papel muy importante para la selección del bastón en este tiro.

Es uno de los campos con el slope más alto de todos, ya que sus fairways son muy estrechos y el driver derecho debe ser tu mejor aliado, si no es así trae muchas bolas extras. Su hoyo 10 es un par 4 corto que con el viento a favor y un buen drive, tu probabilidad de birdie es muy alta.

Un campo de diseño TPC, lo que lo hace retador, la disposición de todos los hoyos, sus greens, sus fairway y su diseño lo hacen un campo dinámico en el cual tendrás que utilizar todas tus hablilidades para conseguir un buen score. En este campo todos los hoyos son bellos.

Un campo fácil y corto en Cozumel, pero con un diseño especial. Mucha fauna te acompaña a lo largo de tu ronda, cocodrilos, coatíes, armadillos, garzas y mucho más. El hoyo 16 par 5 es un verdadero reto, el promedio de tiro es de doble boggie, así que ahí tienes una tarea a mejorar.

La casa donde se juega el torneo de la PGA Mayakoba Golf Classic. Es una delicia poder jugar en este campo, todo es implecable, hablar de un hoyo especial sería una descortesia para todos los demás, su diseño, su servicio y su casa club son inigualables, es otro que no puede faltar en tu lista.

Este campo es de reciente apertura, su diseño tiene muchas caídas y desniveles en el fairway para tirar tu bola al agua o a las trampas. Debes considerar el apunte de tus tiros en cada hoyo y de preferencia salir con alguien que conozca este campo.
