board September 2017 Dear LCFC Community, Today the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado celebrates 10 years of transformative philanthropy. Through our partnership with donors, community members, organizational leaders, local and national foundations and businesses we have invested $5.3 million in Colorado’s diverse Latino community to over 100 organizations. Your investment in the LCFC has supported the leadership development of Latino-led and Latino-serving organizations across the state that in turn has supported tens of thousands of people to live their lives to the fullest potential.

Our Story

seeding

“We cannot seek achievement for ourselves and forget about progress and prosperity for our community…Our ambitions must be broad enough to include the aspirations and needs of others, for their sakes and for our own.” - César Chávez

OUR INSPIRATION Nearly a decade ago, a set of visionary Latino families and allies sought to establish Colorado’s first Latino foundation. Their dream was to create a culturally relevant philanthropic entity to tackle some of the most pressing issues facing the community. This vision was realized through the commitment of 17 families and several foundations who joined together to create the Latino Community Foundation of Colorado as an initiative of Rose Community Foundation. To date, we have invested more than $5 million in communities throughout Colorado. We have helped establish the groundwork for building strong Latino-led organizations and cultivating emerging leaders. We have educated Latinos about philanthropy and fostered an environment where they see themselves as givers and investors of social change.

VISION DRIVEN We believe that the rich and varied identities of Latinos contribute to the diversity and culture of Colorado. We are committed to creating inclusive, thriving communities rooted in equity so that all members of our community have the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. We view our work through a cultural lens that builds understanding with the community at large and helps shape the story of the Latino experience in our varied experiences and identities.

philanthropy ACCESSIBLE GIVING One of the cornerstones of our work is to inspire giving and invite individuals to experience the transformative power of philanthropy. Extending our impact depends on cultivating a new generation of philanthropists who are committed to investing in social change through giving and volunteerism. We are committed to culturally relevant and family centered philanthropy where all are encouraged to participate.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES Strong Latino organizations are essential to strong Latino communities. Through grantmaking, special projects and initiatives, we help build the organizational capacities of Latino led and serving organizations so that they can achieve their missions. Our investments are responsive, relevant and shape the long-term impact of organizations. They further cultivate leaders who can impart social change through their deep commitment to transforming our communities.

partnerships Transforming Lives is Powerful

Our goal is to engage community members at many levels and create long-term community investment, leading to tangible results and impact. We look to partner with individual donors, small businesses, large corporations, foundations and other investors who want to have an impactful return on their investment. At the LCFC, we believe the long-term vibrancy of the Latino community rests heavily on how well we do in evolving philanthropy among Latinos and having them understand their power and potential.

SHEILA BUGDANOWITZ May her memory be for a blessing There are many visionary leaders who have contributed to the growth of the LCFC over the last ten years. One such leader was Rose Community Foundation CEO Sheila Bugdanowitz who passed away on December 4, 2016. Sheila will always be remembered as a champion for the LCFC and someone who understood the value of creating cross-cultural alliances. She saw the connection between Jewish and Latino values and was committed to ensuring that the LCFC had the resources and support it needed to create impact in the Latino community. She was generous as a friend, mentor and donor to the LCFC and her contributions will be cherished and remembered.

legacy

Generations of Giving The LCFC’s Generations of Giving campaign is focused on empowering Latinos to build stronger communities by becoming more engaged in philanthropy, while strengthening the legacy they leave for future generations. Generosity, family and commitment to community have always been embedded in our Latino culture, but unfortunately Latinos have not been recognized as philanthropists. We know our Latino families have always given generously to the community, creating the cornerstone to our rich history as givers through our churches, schools, family events and community activities, without the historic recognition that accompanies it. The time has come to fully embrace a philanthropic mindset in our Latino communities, and capture the recognition of giving that builds a Latino legacy that we can establish for future generations. Be a part of Generations of Giving! By being a contributor to the Generations of Giving campaign, your gift is pooled with others and the LCFC leverages it so it grows into an even larger amount. Now is the time to capture the tradition of giving and pass it down, etching your own legacy. Now is the time for you and your familia to leave a lasting impact on our community’s future. To be part of Generations of Giving, please contact: Carlos Martinez at 303.398.7448 or cmartinez@rcfdenver.org. Visit latinocfc.org/generationsofgiving for more information.
