THEAMERCIANCOYOTE

It's 11:22pm on Friday night and Marcus Davila walks into his house after a grueling workout from the gym. He greets his two year old sonApollo and passes the keys to his wife so she can go workout now that he has arrived home to watch their son.

"Was it packed" -Sabrina

"About half packed but they have a bunch of open machines honey." -Marcus

"Ok ill be back, Love you" - Sabrina

"Love you more, have a great workout" - Marcus

He takes a quick shower and then asksApollo what he wants to watch on tv

"Cocomelon!!" -Apollo

"Cocomelon it is mijo" - Marcus

He gives him half a banana to snack on and turns towards his phone to see who has messaged, called, liked posts, shared posts, and realizes his social media has 17% less engagement than the day before. He makes a post to stay relevant and in the swirl we call life as we know it.

"Here at the gym" - Sabrina

"Awesome babe, have a great workout and remember to hydrate!" - Marcus "Ok" - Sabrina

Marcus goes to his computer and turns onYoutube to play someTrance music live from Armin Van Buuren to get in his zone.

"I'm a person who loves to have multiple things going on at the same time to feel balanced. I get bored easily and prefer to work in chaos. I feel I do my best work there honestly because I will overthink some things if that's all I'm focused on and will never feel it's perfect enough to be complete."

He opens up his editing software to rewatch scenes filmed over the previous 18 months from his debut feature film ,TheAmerican Coyote." He opens his phone and the first story on Facebook is a 14 year old child Missing from a NativeAmerican Reservation. He closes his phone.

her drive to create films that fueled my passion to share stories of my own on the silver screen. We tag team on every film she and I create and I owe it all to her if you ask me.

Knowledge is power and she has given me the opportunity to share untold stories with the world. Shortly thereafter Sabrina signed with Enorama and we now both create films under our company LionsAct Productions where she is President and I'm Vice President.

"TheAmerican Coyote" has brought together a great cast of famous actors like Michael Ochotorena, JJ Fernandez, KeeKee Suki, and brought together stars from the NBAin World Champion and former Spur Devin Brown, Grammy award winner DJ Kane, who both are making their film debut and given them roles in this film that will surprise you by their realism brought to the scene.

"In theAmerican Coyote you will see how HumanTrafficking is a problem affecting every race and the players of this game who are handling the day to day operations. It's not just a male, female, or child problem, it's not a Hispanic problem, it's a problem for everyone from NativeAmericans, White, Black,Asian, and every race in between all they see is money and we're all susceptible to being pawns in their game."

TheAmerican Coyote follows the fictional story based on true events of Efrain who is trafficked from Mexico to the United States after having his Father killed for not joining the local Cartel chieftains group. Efrain is separated from his aunt and uncle after crossing the border and raised by a "Coyote" in the underworld of HumanTrafficking. "TheAmerican Coyote" chronicles his rise in the organization and the pitfalls of staying alive in the wilderness avoiding Border Patrol, avoiding rival cartels, police chasing him for his crimes, and the weight carried by a child trapped in an organization he had no choice in joining.

"I don't want to glorify the cartel life, I just want to tell a story from the perspective of someone who never had the choice to leave. How people feel about it will vary and I'm ok with that,Art is subjective and I'm aware that it's a tough subject to tackle for my first film but I'm proud of the work we have put in so far into this project."

LatinAmericanCivilRightsActivist CesarChavez

!Si, Se Puede!

Cesar Chavez was anAmerican labor leader and civil rights activist. Along with Dolores Huerta, he co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later merged with theAgricultural Workers Organizing Committee to become the United Farm Workers labor union.

Born: March 31,1927Yuma,Az

Died: April 23,1993 San Luis,Az

The story of Cesar Estrada Chavez begins nearYuma,Arizona. Cesar was born on March 31, 1927. He was named after his grandfather, Cesario. Regrettably, the story of Cesar Estrada Chavez also ends near Yuma,Arizona. He passed away onApril 23, 1993, in San Luis, a small village nearYuma,Arizona.

He learned about justice or rather injustice early in his life. Cesar grew up inArizona; the small adobe home, where Cesar was born was swindled from them by dishonestAnglos. Cesar’s father agreed to clear eighty acres of land and in exchange he would receive the deed to forty acres of land that adjoined the home. The agreement was broken and the land sold to a man named Justus Jackson. Cesar’s dad went to a lawyer who advised him to borrow money and buy the land. Later when Cesar’s father could not pay the interest on the loan the lawyer bought back the land and sold it to the original owner. Cesar learned a lesson about injustice that he would never forget. Later, he would say,The love for justice that is in us is not only the best part of our being but it is also the most true to our nature.

In 1938 he and his family moved to California. He lived in La Colonia Barrio in Oxnard for a short period, returning toArizona several months later They returned to California in June 1939 and this time settled in San Jose. They lived in the barrio called Sal Si Puedes -“Get Out IfYou Can.” Cesar thought the only way to get out of the circle of poverty was to work his way up and send the kids to college. He and his family worked in the fields of California from Brawley to Oxnard,Atascadero, Gonzales, King City, Salinas, McFarland, Delano, Wasco, Selma, Kingsburg, and Mendota.

He did not like school as a child, probably because he spoke only Spanish at home. The teachers were mostlyAnglo and only spoke English. Spanish was forbidden in school. He remembers being punished with a ruler to his knuckles for violating the rule. He also remembers that some schools were segregated and he felt that in the integrated schools he was like a monkey in a cage. He remembers having to listen to a lot of racist remarks. He remembers seeing signs that read whites only. He and his brother, Richard, attended thirty-seven schools. He felt that education had nothing to do with his farm worker/migrant way of life. In 1942 he graduated from the eighth grade. Because his father, Librado, had been in an accident and because he did not want his mother, Juana, to work in the fields, he could not to go to high school, and instead became a migrant farm worker

10

While his childhood school education was not the best, later in life, education was his passion. The walls of his office in La Paz (United Farm Worker Headquarters ) are lined with hundreds of books ranging from philosophy, economics, cooperatives, and unions, to biographies on Gandhi and the Kennedys’. He believed that, “The end of all education should surely be service to others,” a belief that he practiced until his untimely death.

He joined the U.S. Navy, which was then segregated, in 1946, at the age of 19, and served for two years. In 1948 Cesar married Helen Fabela. They honeymooned in California by visiting all the California Missions from Sonoma to San Diego (again the influence of education). They settled in Delano and started their family. First Fernando, then Sylvia, then Linda, and five more children were to follow.

Cesar returned to San Jose where he met and was influenced by Father Donald McDonnell. They talked about farm workers and strikes. Cesar began reading about St. Francis and Gandhi and nonviolence. After Father McDonnell came another very influential person, Fred Ross.

Cesar became an organizer for Ross’organization, the Community Service Organization – CSO. His first task was voter registration.

In 1962 Cesar founded the National Farm WorkersAssociation, later to become the United Farm Workers –the UFW. He was joined by Dolores Huerta and the union was born. That same year Richard Chavez designed the UFW Eagle and Cesar chose the black and red colors. Cesar told the story of the birth of the eagle. He asked Richard to design the flag, but Richard could not make an eagle that he liked. Finally he sketched one on a piece of brown wrapping paper. He then squared off the wing edges so that the eagle would be easier for union members to draw on the handmade red flags that would give courage to the farm workers with their own powerful symbol. Cesar made reference to the flag by stating, “Asymbol is an important thing. That is why we chose anAztec eagle. It gives pride........”When people see it they know it means dignity.”

For a long time in 1962, there were very few union dues paying members. By 1970 the UFW got grape growers to accept union contracts and had effectively organized most of that industry, at one point in time claiming 50,000 dues paying members. The reason was Cesar Chavez’s tireless leadership and nonviolent tactics that included the Delano grape strike, his fasts that focused national attention on farm workers problems, and the 340-mile march from Delano to Sacramento in 1966.The farm workers and supporters carried banners with the black eagle with HUELGA(strike) and VIVALACAUSA(Long live our cause). The marchers wanted the state government to pass laws which would permit farm workers to organize into a union and allow collective bargaining agreements. Cesar made people aware of the struggles of farm workers for better pay and safer working conditions. He succeeded through nonviolent tactics (boycotts, pickets, and strikes). Cesar Chavez and the union sought recognition of the importance and dignity of all farm workers.

It was the beginning of La Causa a cause that was supported by organized labor, religious groups, minorities, and students. Cesar Chavez had the foresight to train his union workers and then to send many of them into the cities where they were to use the boycott and picket as their weapon.

11

Cesar was willing to sacrifice his own life so that the union would continue and that violence was not used. Cesar fasted many times. In 1968 Cesar went on a water only, 25 day fast. He repeated the fast in 1972 for 24 days, and again in 1988, this time for 36 days. What motivated him to do this? He said, Farm workers everywhere are angry and worried that we cannot win without violence. We have proved it before through persistence, hard work, faith and willingness to sacrifice. We can win and keep our own self-respect and build a great union that will secure the spirit of all people if we do it through a rededication and recommitment to the struggle for justice through nonviolence.

Many events precipitated the fast, especially the terrible suffering of the farm workers and their children, the crushing of farm worker rights, the dangers of pesticides, and the denial of fair and free elections.

Cesar said about the fast, ”Afast is first and foremost personal. It is a fast for the purification of my own body, mind, and soul. The fast is also a heartfelt prayer for purification and strengthening for all those who work beside me in the farm worker movement. The fast is alsoan act of penance for those in positions of moral authority and for all men and women activists who know what is right and just, who know that they could and should do more. The fast is finally a declaration of non-cooperation with supermarkets who promote and sell and profit fromCalifornia table grapes. During the past few years I have been studying the plague of pesticides on our land and our food,” Cesar continued “The evil is far greater than even I had thought it to be, it threatens to choke out the life of our people and also the life system that supports us all. This solution to this deadly crisis will not be found in the arrogance of the powerful, but in solidarity with the weak and helpless. I pray to God that this fast will be a preparation for a multitude of simple deeds for justice. Carried out by men and women whose hearts are focused on the suffering of the poor and who yearn, with us, for a better world.Together, all things are possible.”

Cesar Chavez completed his 36-day Fast for Life onAugust 21, 1988.The Reverend Jesse Jackson took up where Cesar left off, fasting on water for three days before passing on the fast to celebrities and leaders. The fast was passed to Martin Sheen, actor; the Reverend J. Lowery, President SCLC; Edward Olmos, actor; Emilio Estevez, actor; Kerry Kennedy, daughter of Robert Kennedy, Peter Chacon, legislator, Julie Carmen, actress; Danny Glover, actor; Carly Simon, singer; and Whoopi Goldberg, actress.

OnApril 29, 1993, Cesar Estrada Chavez was honored in death by those he led in life. More than 50,000 mourners came to honor the charismatic labor leader at the site of his first public fast in 1968 and his last in 1988, the United Farm Workers Delano Field Office at “FortyAcres.”

It was the largest funeral of any labor leader in the history of the U.S.They came in caravans from Florida to California to pay respect to a man whose strength was in his simplicity

Farm workers, family members, friends and union staff took turns standing vigil over the plain pine coffin which held the body of Cesar Chavez.Among the honor guard were many celebrities who had supported Chavez throughout his years of struggle to better the lot of farmworkers throughoutAmerica.

Many of the mourners had marched side by side with Chavez during his tumultuous years in the vineyards and farms ofAmerica. For the last time, they came to march by the side of the man who had taught them to stand up for their rights, through nonviolent protest and collective bargaining.

Meet Dr. Marianne Pinkston, a passionate and dedicated family practice and integrative/functional medicine physician who has overcome countless obstacles to pursue her dream of becoming a healer From a young age, Dr. Pinkston was inspired by her grandfather's teachings about nature, science, biology, and the power of healing. With this foundation, she set her sights on becoming a doctor and never looked back. Dr Pinkston attended Texas Tech University receiving her Bachelor’s in Biology, UTHSC- SanAntonio Medical School, CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Family Practice Residency (first intern class,) Morsani School of Medicine (with George Washington University) for a fellowship inAnti-Aging Regenerative Medicine and multiple nutrition and advanced degree courses.

Dr Pinkston’s journey to attaining her education was not an easy one Despite facing numerous rejections and setbacks, she refused to take no for an answer. She fought tooth and nail, breaking the glass ceiling, to prove herself

Throughout her medical career, Dr Pinkston has continuously defied expectations. In her fourth year of medical school, she applied for the astronaut program at NASAand was set to enter the military as a Captain and fly jets. However, she met and married her now ex-husband, which led her down a different path. Together, they opened a private practice, she as an independent physician, making Dr Pinkston now one of the last physicians to own a private practice

Despite facing personal and health challenges, Dr. Pinkston has remained steadfast in her commitment to her patients and her profession. She has battled RheumatoidArthritis, Autoimmune Hepatitis, Cancer/ Melanoma, obesity, Diabetes and other health issues, all while running her practice and caring for her three children. She experienced firsthand the frustration of being told by doctors that nothing was wrong, a situation that many of her own patients faced. In her search for answers, she turned to Functional Medicine, now known as Integrative Medicine, and dedicated herself to becoming the best patient advocate and practitioner she could be

Dr Pinkston has not only transformed her own health but has also helped countless others on their healing journeys. She opened one of the first Med Spa practices in her area, long before aesthetics became a household name while continuing to run a private practice medical clinic. Her expertise and dedication have earned her the trust of over 40,000 patients, who seek her out for her knowledge and compassion. She is medical director for the LaValle Performance Health Center in Cedar Park, Texas working closely with Jim LaValle and PDLabs Compounding Pharmacy She is medical director of Dolce Beauty and Laser

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Pinkston is deeply committed to education and advocacy She has taught nearly 20,000 hours to student practitioners, sharing her wealth of knowledge and experience. She also hosts a radio show withAM 930 TheAnswer in SanAntonio and hosts her own podcast: YouTube channel, and SiriusXM “The Better Life with Dr Pinkston” as well as co-host of several other podcasts, spreading her message of empowerment and resilience. Links to the podcasts and blog, etc can be found at drpbetterlife.com. Dr. Pinkston is actively involved in various organizations, including the Global PainAssociation and the SanAntonio Women's Chamber of Commerce. She is also a Health Editor for SAMonthly Magazine and LatinaX Magazine, furthering her mission to educate and inspire others She was briefly Vice Chair of theArthritis Foundation. She has been voted to Inspiring Women’s Magazine and many awards in various fields socially and professionally She is a member of over 20 organizations philanthropically and leadership positions

awards in various fields socially and professionally. She is a member of over 20 organizations philanthropically and leadership positions

Having suffered obesity once weighing 300lbs, Dr Pinkston lost 175lbs and reversed many of her health issues to be come an athlete. Despite her ongoing battle with arthritis and other health issues plus a busy life of work and family, Dr Pinkston continues to lead an active lifestyle, running on a treadmill and lifting weights multiple times a week. She maintains her weight loss for five years and has no plans of slowing down.At 54 years old, she still dreams of becoming a pilot and is determined to live her life to the fullest.

Dr Pinkston is a specialist in Natural or BioIdentical Hormone Therapy, weight loss, autoimmune illness, thyroid, adrenal illnesses, and more. She practices Family Medicine with an Integrative twist, combining the best of contemporary allopathic medicine with integrative approaches. Regardless of these diffcules, I remain firm in my faith and in my clients by praying and being grateful for the men and women that require my services and the amount of joy that I bring to them aer a procedure. Here at Kurves by Kim, I pride myself on my ability to work with people and my dedicaon to serving YOU. At the simplest, what it does is smulate the epidermal layer of the skin without even touching it, resulng in your body sculpng your face back to the way it was in former years. There is no bruising, bleeding, stching, thinning of the skin, or even use of a scalpel. What there is, is long term outcomes, treatment that is both safe and effecve, and it is noninvasive! On top of these things use of an anesthec cream makes the procedure virtually painless.

Is the Doctor In?

TheStoryofaBrokenMedicalSystem

Marianne Pinkston MD

Weight loss is one of the most challenging processes due to many factors. The industry does not have your best interest at heart. In the ’80s and early ’90s, the industry changed the rules on food. Oprah went after the beef industry, and we started using Round Up pesticides. Fat was labeled bad for us, so the industry increased sugar and salt to satisfy our palette. The world was viewed as starving in overpopulation, so the USAgenetically modified corn and wheat to grow bigger crops with more products, and we became allergic to the foods. We had excess corn, so we made high fructose corn syrup, and the population became addicted to carbohydrates.

We prepackaged foods and made foods more convenient in “instant” cooking, open a box, and eat, and restaurants supersized for quantity, in turn giving up quality. All of these changes have created what we understand now as metabolic inflammation, where our cholesterols are up, especially triglycerides, and our body's ability to process carbohydrates is greatly diminished where we overproduce insulin and cholesterol and our bodies a solid mass of inflammation, hormonal dysfunction and add stress and lack of sleep and lack of exercise, and we are now an obese society. Inflammation does not allow our efforts of calorie reduction and exercise to work any longer. We are losing muscle mass faster than ever with the loss of hormone regulation and fad diets. In our instant gratification world, we want fast weight loss and medication or a pill to fix it quickly. We no longer feel well enough, energized enough, or motivated enough to lose weight the right way. Fad diets, fad supplements, and anything new are created to give people hope from their desperation to lose weight and feel better or give quick results. Still, they fail to work, leaving people more obese than ever with an empty pocketbook and no permanent effects. Calorie and carbohydrate restrictions cause us to lose water and burn muscle, not fat therefore slowing our metabolism more. Many reduce calories far below acceptable levels and do so per the advice of medical professionals. Many read the internet and follow social media andTikTok andYouTube self-ascribed specialists that know nothing about health and appropriate weight loss. The industry has a new supplement or fad diet every year and tells you their product or diet will fix your weight issues and guarantee weight loss. They make billions off your desperation, and believe me if it were that easy to lose weight, I would be a billionaire myself. Folks, there is no easy way, and the longer we deny that eating right and exercising are the key to our success in weight loss, we will become more obese as a society.

58

Our bodies are machines. Machines need suitable gas to run right. Our bodies have needs, and we live in excess and a style of instant gratification, and it’s killing us.There are new methods for losing weight, and it’s about solving metabolic problems while we straighten out our bad habits and cravings and sedentary lifestyle. When you hear you will feel better when you eat right and exercise, you will. Your bad habits are just that, bad habits. Habits can be changed, and new habits can be learned.Again this day and age, anyone can post or make a podcast or read the internet and make claims they know how to solve weight problems and health problems, but you must look deeper at the evidence that makes a person or post or self-proclaimed expert credible.

I lost 170 lbs to regain my health. I know all the secrets now, and I am helping people every day try to lose weight, but I am more convinced than ever people do not understand what it takes to lose weight permanently and correctly. I worry people are less able to see health and wellness as a process that takes months and years to correct. I fear our younger generation will die younger than their parents. I worry people are getting farther away from proper health and that the internet and social media are making us less intelligent and capable.

Weight loss and health is a process that takes months and years to regain. It takes time and patience, and support. There is no easy, instantaneous answer to good health and weight loss. The body is a symphony with a hundred instruments that must be all in tune and follow the same rhythm, and you need a good, well-trained conductor to guide you.

Becoming a healer was my sole dream and purpose in life, and I have prayed for our society to learn how to trust the medical profession again. Doctors are burned out and have less of a role and less control over how to help you regain your health. Finding the right doctor these days is like finding a needle in a haystack. Doctors are owned by the system now and are not independent to practice their art but controlled with less and less authority and autonomy. Science is now paid for by the system and streamlined to consumerism. As an independent physician and a dinosaur that still owns her practice and still acts as a patient advocate, thinking independently and practicing the art of medicine, I see the end of the glory days when physicians heal and change lives to one ofAI and robotics with less and less if the human touch. Weight loss is just an example of a broken system. My prayer is that we can open our eyes to the possibility of change and reacquire the patience to use the abundance of information and technology back to our advantage. As my generation of independent doctors leaves practice in droves, selling out to exhaustion, I plan to stay a little longer and continue to focus on what I learned as the essential thing to patient care, and that is to continue to listen to the patient and treat each patient not as a number but as a living beautiful and independent soul.

Unveiling the Spectrum: Navigating Life with Autism

In the grand tapestry of human diversity, the spectrum of autism is a vibrant thread, weaving its way through the fabric of society. Each individual touched by autism brings a unique pattern to this mosaic of humanity, challenging perceptions and fostering understanding. As awareness grows, so too does the need for acceptance and support.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental condition characterized by differences in social interaction, communication, and behavior. It’s important to recognize that autism is not a single mold but a spectrum, encompassing a wide range of strengths, challenges, and perspectives. From those who require significant support to navigate daily life to those whose differences are subtler yet equally profound, the spectrum reflects the rich diversity of human experience. One of the most powerful tools in understanding autism is listening to the voices of those who are autistic themselves. Their narratives offer invaluable insights into their world, dispelling myths and misconceptions along the way. Autistic individuals often possess keen intellects, unique talents, and deep passions that enrich our communities in countless ways. Yet, they may also face barriers to social inclusion, employment, and access to services that are vital for their well-being.

Education plays a pivotal role in fostering an inclusive society where individuals with autism can thrive. By promoting understanding and empathy in schools, workplaces, and communities, we can create environments that celebrate neurodiversity and accommodate diverse needs. Early intervention and access to specialized support services are crucial in empowering individuals with autism to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives.

62

Technology also plays a transformative role in the lives of people with autism, offering innovative solutions to overcome challenges and enhance communication. From assistive apps that facilitate social interactions to virtual reality programs that provide immersive sensory experiences, technology has the power to break down barriers and unlock new possibilities for individuals on the spectrum.

In addition to external support, fostering self-awareness and self-advocacy is essential for individuals with autism to navigate the complexities of the world around them. By embracing their strengths and embracing their differences, they can cultivate a sense of identity and belonging that empowers them to advocate for their needs and aspirations.

As we continue on the journey toward a more inclusive society, let us recognize the beauty and resilience of the autism spectrum. By embracing diversity, promoting understanding, and advocating for meaningful inclusion, we can create a world where everyone, regardless of neurology, is valued, respected, and celebrated for who they are. In the mosaic of humanity, every thread has its place, contributing to the rich tapestry of our shared human experience.

**MARIO BARRIOS VS. FABIAN MAIDANA**

The 12-round co-main event will see Mario “El Azteca” Barrios make the first defense of his Interim WBC Welterweight Title against Argenna’s Fabián “TNT” Maidana, the younger brother of legendary acon fighter Marcos who will look to add to his family legacy in his first world tle opportunity.

A former world champion at 140-pounds, Barrios (28-2, 18 KOs) earned a career-best victory in his last oung and stamped his place as a top 147-pounder by dropping Yordenis Ugas twice last September on his way to a unanimous decision. The 28-year-old hails from San Antonio, Texas and now trains in Las Vegas under the guidance of top trainer Bob Santos. He won a 140-pound world championship in September 2019, using his aggressive style to edge out Batyr Akhmedov and earn a unanimous decision. Barrios lost the super lightweight tle in another acon packed, highly compeve bout, as he was defeated by three-division and five-me world champion Gervonta Davis in June 2021.

70

“I’m thrilled to be back in the ring for the co-main event of the biggest Mexican fight in history and during Cinco de Mayo weekend,” said Barrios. “Fabián Maidana is a tough warrior like me, so the fans

are definitely in for an excing fight. Defending my tle is priority number one, and I’m going to do it with intelligence and bad intenons. Everyone knows that when I step into the ring, I leave it all in there. This will be no different. On May 4, the fans can expect a Mexico vs. Argenna war”

The 31-year-old Maidana (22-2, 16 KOs) enters this fight on a four-bout winning streak, including three 2023 triumphs highlighted by a unanimous decision victory over Israel Lopez in November. A nave of Margarita, Santa Fe, Argenna, Maidana hopes to follow in the footsteps of his older brother and former two-division champion Marcos. He’s fought professionally since 2014, following up a strong amateur career by winning his first 16 pro fights. He will return to fight stateside for the first me since 2019, aer spending much of his early career fighng in the U.S., including a 2018 knockout of former tle challenger Andrey Klimov

“I’m very happy to be fighng on this card against a great champion like Mario Barrios,” said Maidana. “We come to win and give our best to the mecca of boxing, Las Vegas. The world knows my brother beat Floyd Mayweather on Cinco de Mayo, and I plan to do the same against Barrios. I’m fighng for my people in Argenna, and I’m coming to win.”

**BRANDON FIGUEROA VS. JESSIE MAGDALENO**

The pay-per-view lineup will also feature the return of former world champion Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa as he defends his Interim WBC Featherweight Title in a 12-round bout against the former 122-pound world champion Jessie Magdaleno

The 27-year-old Figueroa (24-1-1, 18 KOs) most recently picked up his interim tle in his last bout, beang former world champion Mark Magsayo via unanimous decision in a Fight of the Year candidate in March 2023. It was his second fight since a 2021 Fight of the Year against Stephen Fulton Jr., which some observers thought ended in controversy aer the majority decision loss for Figueroa. A nave of Weslaco, Texas, Figueroa’s relentless pressure and youthful enthusiasm helped him become the first person to defeat former division champion Luis Nery in their championship clash prior to the Fulton fight. Figueroa added to his family’s legacy by capturing the WBC 122-pound world tle against Nery, joining his brother Omar Figueroa Jr., who previously held the WBC Lightweight World Championship.

“I’ve been staying ready, just paently waing for my opportunity, and now I can’t wait to get back in the ring on May 4,” said Figueroa. “Magdaleno is a great fighter and he’s a former world champion for a reason. I know I have to be at my best. I’m just hungry to get back into the ring and keep boxing excing with my fights and my fighng style.”

A Las Vegas-nave, Magdaleno (29-2, 18 KOs) will look to rebound from a decision defeat in his last fight against current featherweight tlist Raymond Ford. Prior to the defeat, Magdaleno had put together four-straight victories since moving up to featherweight in 2019. The 32-year-old became a world champion in 2016 with a dominant unanimous decision victory over future Hall of Famer Nonito Donaire, and successfully defended the tle with a 2017 knockout of Adeilson Dos Santos. Magdaleno also comes from a boxing family, as his older brother Diego was a longme contender, while his younger brother Marco also fought professionally.

71

“This fight is everything for me,” said Magdaleno. “There are people who think I’m an underdog against Figueroa. But I’d remind those people of one thing…I was an underdog when I became world champion for the first me, and I’m ready to do it again. On May 4 you will hear ‘and the new!’”

**EIMANTAS STANIONIS VS. GABRIEL MAESTRE**

A come-forward technician, the undefeated Eimantas Stanionis will make the first defense of his WBA Welterweight Title when he takes on fellow unbeaten Gabriel Maestre in a 12-round showdown that opens up the pay-per-view card.

Represenng his nave Kaunas, Lithuania, Stanionis (14-0, 9 KOs) has made the most of the promise he showed when turning pro aer fighng for his country at the 2016 Olympic games. The 29-yearold captured his interim belt in his most recent oung, defeang the previously unbeaten Radzhab Butaev via a hard-fought decision in April 2022. Stanionis blasted through a slew of veteran welterweights on his way up the ladder, including a knockout of Jusn DeLoach and a 12-round unanimous decision over Thomas Dulorme.

“I’m so excited to get back in the ring, I feel like a kid in a candy store who gets to choose any kind of candy he wants,” said Stanionis. “This is especially excing for me because I am a big fan of Canelo Álvarez. I love watching his fights and as a kid, I dreamed of fighng on Cinco de Mayo in front of all those great Mexican fans. It movates me even more to give them a great fight. I know that Gabriel Maestre is tough and has power. We fought in the amateurs and I know it’s a great matchup of styles. I’m going to bring the acon and so will he. You can definitely expect fireworks on May 4.”

A two-me Olympian for his home country of Venezuela, Maestre (6-0-1, 5 KOs) delivered a dominant display last August as he blasted out the then-unbeaten rising prospect Travon Marshall in round two. His pro career has followed an extensive amateur run that included victories over Brian Castano, Carlos Adames, Alexander Bespun, Oscar Molina and Brian Ceballo. He made his U.S. debut with a controversial decision victory over Mykal Fox in August 2021 before fighng fellow unbeaten Taras Shelestyuk to a draw in March 2022 and defeang former two-division champion Devon Alexander in April 2023.

“I’ve wanted to fight Stanionis for years and get revenge from our amateur match,” said Maestre. “It was a tough close fight and I’m ready to face him again for another war. We are ready for a great fight and to leave the ring with my hand raised. May 4 will be a historic day for me and Venezuela.”

Orange rallies past Blue in UTSA Football Fiesta Spring Game

The Orange (offense) rallied from a 9-2 halime deficit for an 11-10 victory over the Defense (blue) in the annual UTSA Football Fiesta Spring Game on Saturday aernoon in front of 8,130 fans at the Alamodome.

An official event since its incepon in 2011, the UTSA Football Fiesta Spring Game Fiesta San Antonio used a modified scoring system that awarded two points for both a touchdown and a takeaway and one point for each field goal and defensive stop.

The Blue controlled the opening half, building a 9-2 advantage behind eight defensive stops and a takeaway. The defense registered four three-and-outs and allowed only one score by the offense over the nine first-half drives.

Safety Ellio Davison had a pass breakup and linebacker Martavius French provided a key tackle on third down to halt the opening drive and make it 1-0 in favor of the Blue.

The Orange got on the board on the next possession when quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger found ght end Houston Thomas open over the middle for an 8-yard touchdown. That score was set up with a 38yard, third-down recepon by wide receiver JJ Sparkman that put the offense in the red zone.

The Blue then forced three consecuve three-and-outs, the last with the benefit of a Timothy Huff Jr fumble recovery deep inside Orange territory that made it 5-2.

The Orange put together a drive that was keyed by a 32-yard pass from quarterback Jackson Gilkey to Sparkman, a senior transfer from Texas Tech, to help set up a 53-yard field goal aempt. However, the Blue added another point to the tally when the kick came up just short.

The Blue then put together three more stops to end the half, including one that was highlighted by a sack from defensive lineman Daemian Wimberly, a transfer from SMU.

The Orange came out blazing in the second half, scoring on the final five possessions.

Following a three-and-out that gave the Blue a 10-2 lead, running back Jusn Rodriguez capped a drive with a 39-yard touchdown dash up the middle to paydirt.

Wide receiver Jusce Hurt then hauled in a 22-yard TD pass from Gilkey over a Blue defender to pull the Orange to within 10-6.

Tate Sandell made it a three-point contest aer the sophomore kicker split the uprights from 30 yards out on a drive that was headlined by a 29-yard catch by wide receiver Willie McCoy from quarterback Owen McCown.

Marburger captained the next drive, connecng with Jaren Randle on back-to-back plays to make it 109. Randle caught a 38-yard pass down the right sideline then hauled in a 29-yard TD pass on the next play to get the Orange to within one point.

Brandon Tennison was under center on the final possession of the day, helping complete the comeback.

The former Gilmer High School star quarterback hit Ellio Brow on a 31-yard pass down to the 1-yard line to set up an acrobac catch on the le sideline in the end zone by Jamel Hardy to give the Orange the lead, 11-10.

“2 The Maxx”

The Mexican style boxing is a combative match fought at a very close range. Most Mexican fighters embrace the toe to toe battles and willingly step into the ring engaging in what seems to be a blur between offense and defense. Generally, the Mexican fighter is the aggressor applying nonstop pressure to the opponent. This past weekend was no exception.

It started on Friday night when Seneisa “Superbad” Estrada outmatched her longtime rivalYokasta Valle by unanimous decision. By doing so Estrada unified the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO titles. She is now the first ever undisputed minimum weight champion in women's boxing history. Prior to the fight this storyline took a major turn. The former trainer of sineisa jumped ships to train via thus making this personal for Seneisa. Seneisa said in a post-fight interview “this is something I’ve been wanting for a long time”

Isaac Pitbull Cruz best known for giving Gervonte “tank” Davis the toughest fight of his career was also in action Saturday night. He went up against WBASuper Lightweight championship holder Rolly Romero. Romero is best known for his big mouth and outrageous comments he makes about his opponents. In this case he was calling Cruz a Chihuahua rather than a pit bull as he is nicknamed. Little did he know that this little Chihuahua would come out to stop him in the eighth round to take his title. Now that Pitbull is the champion he has a very rough road ahead of him. In this super lightweight division, there are people likeTiofimo Lopez, Devin Haney, Josh Taylor, in hard hitting Puerto Rican Sabriel Matias. We all just must wait and see who this newly crowned champion is fighting next. In the meantime, Romero will be licking his wounds from the Chihuahua attack.

Lastly, we had Sebastian “TheTowering Inferno” Fondura fightingTimTszuy for the world super weight WBC and WBO championship. Fundora comes off a surprising loss to Brian “La Balla” Mendoza inApril of last year via knockout in the seventh round where he lost WBC interim world super welterweight title. Fondura won by a split decision, surprising everyone. Many people thoughtTszyu had fought with him even though he had a big gash on top of his head from an inadvertent elbow landing on his head. This injury happened in the second round causing him to be unable to see clearly for 8 rounds eventually causing him to lose the WBC world super world weight title.
