University Application Policies
Integrity in University Applications: The Leysin American School University Advising office values honesty, fairness, responsibility, and respect. LAS has positive relationships with many universities around the world. For these trusting relationships to continue, students must agree to abide by these core values along with the agreements listed below.
Maximum Applications: Although LAS doesn’t set a maximum number of applications like many other international schools do, we recommend applying to 10-12 universities. However, if you are applying to multiple countries, then students should ideally apply to no more than 20 universities given the heavy demands required to submit high quality applications. These suggestions are in the best interest of our students, encouraging them to research universities carefully, choose universities of true interest to them, and focus meaningfully on each application—thus enhancing their chances of admission. Universities are well aware of these suggestions and wholeheartedly support it.

Early Decision Obligations: If you choose to apply to a binding Early Decision (ED) college or university, you are indicating that this institution is your first choice for further study for all universities worldwide. No matter where else you may have applied, whether in the US or other countries, if you are admitted ED, you must immediately withdraw all other applications and enroll at your ED institution. LAS will not process additional requests for transcripts.
Waiver of Right to View Recommendations: LAS teacher and university advisor letters of recommendation advocate for the student truthfully and are always confidential. Since confidential recommendations are given significant weight by admission officers, it is helpful to your acceptance chances to agree, when asked, to waive your right to view your application materials. It is required of all LAS students if you want us to write you any letter of recommendation.
