There are so many choices out there today for anyone looking for Angus bulls or females that we honestly are grateful that you are considering our offering. Sometimes I feel like we don’t yell loud enough in the noisy marketplace to be noticed. I always like to say our cattle speak loud enough to be heard where necessary.

Angus history has been made this fall. Demand and values have reached levels that are simply astounding. Congratulations to the great programs that have worked tirelessly to achieve these results. Well Done! It was sure fun to be able to watch it unfold. I’ll admit that I feel like I fall way short when it comes to marketing and promoting our program and cattle; but most days I just don’t seem to have adequate time or energy to even sleep. Fall is a crazy busy time for us as we are in the Fall Ornamental (fancy phrase for Pumpkin Grower) business and its all-hands-on deck all the time. So, if I haven’t reached out to you personally or it’s hard to get me on the phone, it’s just how it is in October. I always enjoy Nov. 1st! I have never made the claim that this is the best set of bulls to date. That’s objective really. But I am really excited with the front end of these guys. I travel the country and see lots of cattle. But I don’t see a lot of cattle that exhibit the muscle expression, thickness and masculinity that I find right here at home. If Big-butted bulls with big crests and Angus heads that walk out on a wide base with visible muscle turn your crank, I think you will like where we are today phenotypically. There are certainly some folks that think these moderate framed, lower numbered bulls just don’t pack enough punch, but I have purchased three sets of calves from customers this fall and they have weighed off the truck at 686, 701 and 740 pounds. That came to a pile of dollars on this market, and I tell you I was proud of the quality and look in these cattle that have been delivered so far. I have 150 of the best-looking steers in Eastern WA! Big shout out to Marty and Curtis Hall, Mark and Amy McKay, and Jay Holzmiller and Sue for the great job they all do with our genetics. Switching gears to the commercial cows we are selling. I have always had a bunch of red cows here. I will still have a few nice red cows. Simply making room for The Angus cows that call the JR Ranch home. Same thing with the commercial black cows selling. They have accumulated over the years as a result of our embryo transplant program. We are no longer utilizing the ET program so these girls need to find a new pasture. This is truly a working set of good mama cows. Sackmann Cattle Co. of Warden is once again bringing a top cut set of bulls for us to sell. It has been a couple years and we are very glad they are joining us again. Jeff has their program on point and as usual, he will have the cattle well dialed on sale day. GREETINGS AND WELCOME TO THE FALL PRODUCTION SALE AT JR RANCH! Thank you for taking some time to review this catalog and our sale offering. Time, it is so valuable. I’m thinking about this while I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed. We are finishing up fall calving and getting ready for breeding season, weaning spring calves, preparing for three sales, and trying to keep up with four kids (ages 10 to 17) that are busy with basketball, football, cross country, FFA events, boyfriends (ugh!) and preparing for college. I know most of you can relate. When thinking about and dealing with cattle, I often think about the needs of our friends who have bought cattle from us for years, or potential new customers. We serve a large region with a wide array of environments and management scenarios, but the common denominator is they are all busy. If I find myself saying “I don’t have time for this crap” when dealing with an animal, it won’t be in the sale. I don’t have time to deal with cows with poor feet that can’t travel, I don’t have time to deal with calving/mothering problems, I don’t have time to deal with wild, mean, or stupid cattle, and neither do you. We do our best to weed out these problems. Buy from us with confidence that we stand behind our cattle 100% and if you do encounter a problem and tell us about it, we will make it right. For the first time, we are offering fall yearlings (18) in this fall sale. Several of you prefer buying in this sale because of the difficulty of getting away during calving season in the spring; some have fall calving herds and bull turn out is approaching. It also presents an opportunity to take your bull(s) home to develop and get them acclimated in your environment. I look forward to finding out how this works for our customers. We also have a handful of Spring coming twos. They were brought along slowly, but really look the part now and as a bonus are a quiet, well-mannered group of gentlemen. You are encouraged to take your new bulls home sale day or take immediate delivery, but for $400/head we will winter them here and deliver in the spring. Please let us know when you check out. We will also have a solid group of yearling open heifers, bred heifers and young bred cows from the commercial herd. His dam is from the Princess cow family that produced Sackmann Chief 325 as well as our top two sellers from our March sale, including our top seller, Sackmann Wide Load 2028. We will be offering the bulk of our good Red Cows that have produced Red bulls for the northwest for 30 years. They are a composite blend of Shorthorn and Red Angus genetics. They are productive, functional cows. They will begin calving April 1st and be done by the 3rd week of May. AI bred to 5L Norseman King and a Shorthorn bull from Shane Moe in North Powder, OR. Both bulls have been really good for us here. They were cleaned up by a Trinity Farms Red Simmental bull that is a big powerhouse and truly a quiet guy. Calves are going to GROW!
