Red Angus Guide to EPDS and Indexes ProS ... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).
HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).
GM..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).
CED .......Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value)

- All cattle are to be settled for sale day unless other arrangements are made prior to the sale. The cattle sell under the terms and conditions set forth by the Red Angus association of America. A copy of these can be found at redangus.org. - 1/2 semen interest will be retained by seller. DELIVERY POLICY
We encourage buyers to pick up their purchases on sale day or by noon the following day. Free delivery on purchases of $5,000+ per head within Washington or central points in neighboring states. Deliveries will be made at our earliest convenience. Animals left in our care past 15 days will be subject to feed charges. We will make every effort to help you with hauling arrangements. The yellow sheet you receive at settlement will be your load out slip. If you are not taking your animal home on sale day, please leave the yellow sheet with us detailing your pickup or delivery instructions. SATISFACTON GUARANTEE
All bulls have passed a complete semen evaluation prior to the sale. Out of state buyers: TRICH testing will be done for those who need it after the sale before delivery. They are guarenteed breeders for the first 60-day breeding season only. This covers broken penis, diposition, or genetic structural feet or leg problems, verified by a written veterinarian statement within 15 days of loss of use. We reserve the right to a second opinion by a veterinarian of our choice. It does not cover injury or loss of use of a bull, if bull is turned in with other bulls prior to being turned out at the start of the first 60-day breeding season. As full resolution we will provide to Buyer a suitable replacement, or Buyer will receive credit, minus salvage value of original bull, towards purchase of a bull in next year’s sale. This guarantee does not cover death. Mortality insurance is available sale day.

Welcome! Fellow cattlemen and friends,
This past year was a tough one. Like many of you, we had to adjust for the drought conditions. We were fortunate to have a lot of crop residue to graze and some sub irrigated river bottom that got us through. We had to make a few small changes, so we weaned calves a little bit earlier and sent them to feed. With that being said we feel like this set of bulls is probably the deepest set we’ve ever put together. It was so tough to pick favorites, so we lotted them in sire groups with a handful of bulls towards the back that we added at the last minute. We feel like our bulls really get to show their versatility and ability to adapt to different situations, from being on their mothers in steep rocky pastures where they learn to travel for feed, to standing at the bunk and putting on the pounds. Our bulls have to work from day one to make it to sale day. We hope you can join us on sale day at the JR Ranch sale facility in Othello, WA. Lunch will served at 11:30 a.m., and coffee and doughnuts, for those early risers, will be available. The bulls will be in place, and we will be on-site all day Sunday the13th if you want to stop by for an early visit and look at the offering. Sale Terms & Conditions 1. bidding
The Auctioneer in charge will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decisions on such matters shall be final.
2. terms
Terms of the sale are cash unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with Sale Management prior to sale.
3. purchaser’s risk
Each animal becomes the risk of the Buyer as soon as sold, but it shall be the obligation of the Seller to see that animals are fed and cared for free of charge to Buyer, until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of 48 hours after the sale, whichever occurs sooner.
4. health
All animals are eligible for interstate shipment, except as otherwise announced. Interstate health papers will be furnished for each animal requiring tuberculosis and brucellosis tests in accordance with Federal Regulations.
5. Announcements
Any changes from information of any kind in this catalog will be announced from the auction box and such announcements shall take precedence.
6. default
In the event the Buyer defaults on payment, the Buyer shall be responsible for all costs, including attorney’s costs, incurred by Sale Management or Seller in connection with collecting, or attempting to collect, payment due.
7. breeding guarantee
All animals are guaranteed by the seller as outlined in the Red Angus Association of America Code of Ethical Sale Practices.
8. contract
The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction.
9. liabilities
All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The seller, the sale manager, and the auction facility assume no liability for accidents that may occur. It is to be clearly understood that the sale manager and their representatives act only as a medium between the buyer and seller.
