We’ve partnered with Top Dollar Angus to add even more value for you! Learn more about their program on their website below. Top Dollar Qualified animals will have the logo shown by Lot.
Many of the bulls have been submitted for enhanced DNA testing via GGPuLD. The bulls who have been submitted already are noted by the logo near their EPD box in this catalog. Unfortunately, their office tells us the results may not be ready until a few weeks after our sale date, and therefore the enhanced EPDs are not relected in this catalog. We will check in with them often, and should they have the results ready prior to sale time, we will include that information on our supplement sheet at sale time. Parentage results have been received and are confirmed as listed here in the catalog unless otherwise noted on our sale day supplement sheet. Please contact us if you have questions about this.
ProS ... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).
HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).
GM..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).
CED ....... Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value)
BW ........ Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. (Pounds/Low Value)
WW Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weight. (Pounds/High Value)
YW Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weight. (Pounds/High Value)
ADG Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age. (Pounds/High Value)
DMI Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. (Pounds/Low Value)
MILK Milk predicts differences in weaning weight attributed to the milking ability of the animal’s daughters. (Pounds/High Value)
ME Maintenance Energy predicts the difference in maintence energy requirements. (Mcal per Month/Low Value)
HPG Heifer Pregnancy predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to conceive and calve at 2 years of age following exposure to breeding. (Percent/High Value)
CEM ...... Calving Ease Maternal predicts differences in the percent of daughters who are able to calve unassisted as 2-year-old heifers. (Percent/High Value)
STAY...... Stayability predicts differences in the ability of an animals’ retained daughters to remain productive in the herd – calve every year – through 6 years of age. (Percent/High Value)
MARB .... Marbling predicts differences in marbling score – amount of intramuscular fat measured at the 13th rib. (Marbling Score Units/High Value)
YG Yield Grade predicts differences in USDA Yield Grade, which is calculated using CW, REA and Fat. (Yield Grade Units/Low Value)
CW Carcass Weight predicts differences in actual hot carcass weight. (Pounds/High Value)
REA Ribeye Area predicts differences in square inches of ribeye area measured at the 13th rib.(Square Inches/High Value)
FAT Fat predicts differences in the depth of backfat measured between the 12th and 13th ribs. (Inches/Low Value)

As the year 2023 came to an end, we were reminded that we are not in control; God has His ways of reminding us that we must trust His plan and know that, even if we don’t know why, things happen for a reason.
This applies to everything that happens in our daily lives.
When I was frustrated by the rain and the mud at the feedlot, I was also reminded by the fact that just as things had to wither away and die in the Fall and Winter, now we must appreciate the muddy, wet conditions. I’ve seen new life being born with all the wonderful new baby calves, and I believe God will give us some of the best grass and cow prices that we’ve seen in years!
With all that being said, I hope you, our customers, will be able to see the quality in our offering. Even though they are not as clean as normal, due to the aforementioned weather we have seen in the Northwest, we are very excited about them. We believe they will go out and work for you, as always. When the grass is tall, the cattle are slicked up, and the manure tags have fallen off, give us a call. We would love to come visit and see if we can get that perfect photo. We love Red cattle and green grass!!
We also invite you to come by and see us if you are in the area.
We once again would like to welcome Tel & Lacey Abbe of Abbe Livestock, and also Greg & Renee Hickman of GR Farm. We feel their cattle are truly wonderful and compliment our sale. Also new this year, we welcome Dusty & Terri Roller of Running O Livestock with a couple outstanding papered ranch geldings.
Feel free to reach out to any of us with questions or concerns. Hope to see you at our sale on the 11th of March in Othello.
Praise God, Halleluhah!!
Carl Lautenschlager
...on behalf of the entire Lautenschlager Family & Crew
We’re the Abbe family, Tel, Lacey, Coy, and Kip. We are located in beautiful Baker City, Oregon. We started in the Registered Red Angus business in 2018.
We have been fortunate enough to purchase some great cows and bulls from across the U.S. that have helped us to build a strong foundational herd. We work hard to make sure our cows, bulls, and their offspring are capable of running outside. Our cows run outside for several months in the spring and summer in rugged terrain of sagebrush, rocks, and wild grasses. We strive to raise well structured, moderate framed females with strong, balanced genetics.
We are excited to be pursuing our passion and are thankful to the Lautenschlager family for letting us partake in their spring offering this year. If you have any questions about our bulls please don’t hesitate to call us.
We have been raising Red Angus for 15 years. We purchased most cows as heifers or embryos at Bet On Red, NILE or other top sales. Some of our best cows were purchased from Lautenschlager and Sons Red Angus. It’s a privilege to offer a few bulls with their group of high quality bulls.
Greg & Renee HickmanWe’re Running O Livestock. Founded in 2013 with a focus on breeding and raising ranch horses that work for a living. Located in Hooper, Washington, on a large cattle operation, we run our horses in sage brush and scab rock along the breaks of the Snake River. We are excited to be offering a couple really nice ranch geldings in the Lautenschlager and Sons Red Sale this year. Call us if you have any questions.
Dusty & Terri RollerDevastated and utterly heartbroken to share, on behalf of our entire family, that we lost my sister Lucinda Rae Lautenschlager on Friday, October 13th, 2023, to a drug overdose. Lucy was just 30 years old.
Lucy was so much more than the disease of addiction and the mental health struggles that had increasingly consumed her in more recent years. She was my brother Cody’s and I’s first friend, confidant, and childhood partner in crime. She was my mom’s “mini-me” and the one who first made my dad into a “girl dad”. I’ll never forget Lucy being the one I spent all those childhood years with playing at the salon while Mom did clients’ hair, or sitting on Dad’s lunchbox while we rode with him in the tractor or combine.
Lucy was mischievous and a constant smart aleck…she was more blunt than she should’ve been at times and it sometimes got her into trouble. She also had her own unique way of showing true kindness and compassion towards people she cared about or people she wanted to help. She was the one I put on dance recitals with whenever we had visitors over when we were younger, the sister Cody and I constantly built forts with and played “survivor” with down by the river on our family farm growing up…
Lucy was a straight “A” student throughout her entire academic career. She was smart as a whip and very involved with our small-town communities of Endicott and St. John in Whitman County, Washington. She had a degree in small business management with an empahsis in finanace and accounting. Lucy worked many years at the family bank (starting when she was 15,) and had several other jobs including always being our Administrative Assistant and “numbers” gal for our family ranch, working at a credit union, the local Farm Service Agency office, the county newspaper office, the community assisted living, and as a dental assistant. Her potential was limitless...until addiction took over the bright girl we all knew.
We want people to know the truth and tragedy about how Lucy was taken from us, and many of her teenage and adult years stolen from herself, by addiction that started with prescription drugs as a teenager and ultimately led her to “harder” drugs, including the Fentanyl that took her life. We never would have guessed this would be part of Lucy’s story, or our family’s story. Tragically, it is, and here we are writing this to announce the death of our sister, daughter, family member, and friend to many. We want her to be remembered for who she was before her addiction, and we want the reality of her addiction and subsequent passing to serve as a harsh reminder to all that life is short, we mustn’t take our loved ones for granted, and that addiction can happen to anyone. We hope sharing the truth will help others think twice about casual drug-use, even prescription drugs.
We love you and miss you immeasurably, Lucy. We are heartbroken, and we forgive you for the mistakes you made because of your addiction. We wish we had our Lucy back, our sister, our daughter…we wish we had more time with you…we wish you could’ve fought and beat the battles you faced…and we wish you could’ve found true peace and happiness in this life here on earth with us. We hope and pray you’re celebrating with Jesus, and all our loved ones ahead of you, your new eternal life in Heaven…free of worldly pain, suffering and addiction.
Rest in Peace, Lucinda Rae.
-KatrinaA nonprofit, “Rae of Change: Lucy’s Legacy”, is being set up in her honor to help raise more awareness to the dangers, havoc, and tragedy that comes with the mass drug and opioid epidemic, of which Lucy heart-breakingly fell victim to.
As a family, we feel called to try to help other families avoid this deep-rooted anguish, loss, and the horrible truth of addiction robbing a loved one from you. Lucy’s story is testament that it can happen to anyone - even someone intelligent, beautiful, talented, and with so much potential and kindness to share with the world.

2.TERMS
Terms of sale are cash unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with Sale Management prior to sale.
3.PURCHASER’S
Each animal becomes the risk of the Buyer as soon as sold, but it shall be the obligation of the Seller to see that animals are fed and cared for free of charge to Buyer, until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of 48 hours after the sale, whichever occurs sooner.
4. HEALTH
All animals are eligible for interstate shipment, except as otherwise announced. Interstate health papers will be furnished for each animal requiring tuberculosis and brucellosis tests in accordance with Federal Regulations.

7.
All animals are guaranteed by the seller as outlined in the Red Angus Association of America Code of Ethical Sale Practices.
8. CONTRACT
The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction.
9. LIABILITIES
All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The seller, the sale manager, and the auction facility assume no liability for accidents that may occur. It is to be clearly understood that the sale manager and their representatives act only as a medium between the buyer and seller
