Welcome to our Annual Fall Female & Bull Sale! We’re honored to have you join us for this year’s event, a gathering that has become a valued tradition in celebrating the spirit of resilience and excellence in Red Angus cattle breeding. As we reflect on the past year, we’re reminded of the strength and adaptability that have guided our operations and helped us navigate the ever-evolving challenges in agriculture, from inflation and market shifts to weather uncertainties.
We also can’t help but reflect as a family, that one year ago, just ahead of our 2023 Fall Sale, we lost our daughter Lucy. To say it’s been a tough year - or years really, in that regard, would be an understatement. We shared about this in our Spring bull sale catalog, but we will include those pages again in this catalog, for those who may not have seen it yet. Lucy was meant to be a key part of our operation, and it’ll never be the same without her. We’ve learned firsthand, though, that even when the ground falls out beneath you, the world keeps moving forward - and so too must we. We’re about to host our 1st Annual Dinner Gala - “Addiction, Mental Health, & Overdoses: Let’s Talk About It” on November 15th. You can find more details at raeofchange.org about our efforts to ensure other families don’t experience the same horrors of addiction and loss with their loved ones.
Despite the dark days, there is always light to be found - because, God is always working. We added some new members to the crew this year, and we’re excited about that - especially our sweet new grandson, Carson. We’re reminded daily by God and those we interact with, including all of you, that there are countless reasons to carry on and not just survive, but build a better future. Our commitment to the Red Angus breed remains stronger than ever, and we are proud to present a selection of cattle that embodies the highest standards in genetics and quality. This year’s offering highlights both bred heifers and mature bred cows, pregnant recips, as well as an exceptional group of age-advantaged bulls, each carefully selected to support your success in the field. As we push forward, we’d like the opportunity to buy back some calves - keep us in mind at weaning time.
We remain optimistic that brighter days lie ahead for both America as a whole and American agriculture, with new opportunities to strengthen our herds and our communities. We pray that by sale day, we will have elected Donald J. Trump as our President once again - and hopefully some strong local and state candidates, too. Our industry deserves better representation, and we’re hopeful that the right elected officials will recognize and reward ranchers and farmers nationwide for feeding America and serving as God-entrusted caretakers of His planned paradise.

Red Angus Guide to EPDS and Indexes
ProS ... Profitability and Sustainability is an all-purpose index that predicts average economic differences in all segments in the beef supply chain. This index is a combination of the breeding objectives modeled in the HerdBuilder and GridMaster selection indexes. In this index, replacement heifers are retained from within the herd and all remaining progeny are fed out to slaughter and sold on a quality-based grid. Traits included in this index include calving ease, growth, HPG, STAY, Mature Weight, Dry Matter Intake and carcass traits. The resulting index is expressed in dollars per head born (Index/High Value).
HB ..... HerdBuilder is a maternal selection index that predicts the economic differences of animals for traits that are important from conception through weaning. Expressed as dollars per head born, HB is calculated based on the scenario that bulls are mated to heifers and cows, replacement heifers are retained and all remaining progeny are marketed at weaning. Traits included in the HB index include Calving Ease Direct, Calving Ease Maternal, Weaning Weight, Milk, Mature Weight, Heifer Pregnancy and Stayability (Index/High Value).
GM..... GridMaster is a selection index that predicts the average economic difference of non-replacement calves through the postweaning phase of production. GM places selection pressure on growth, feedyard performance and carcass traits. Expressed as dollars per head born, GM is calculated based on the scenario that progeny are fed out to slaughter and marketed on a quality-based carcass grid. Traits included in GM include Average Daily Gain, Carcass Weight, Dry Matter Intake, Marbling, Back Fat and Rib Eye Area (Index/High Value).
CED ....... Calving Ease Direct predicts differences in the percent of calves born unassisted out of 2-year-old dams. (Percent/High Value)
BW ........ Birth Weight predicts differences in actual birth weight of progeny. (Pounds/Low Value)
WW Weaning Weight predicts differences in 205-day weaning weight. (Pounds/High Value)
YW Yearling Weight predicts differences in 365-day yearling weight. (Pounds/High Value)
ADG Average Daily Gain predicts differences in weight gain between 205 and 365 days of age. (Pounds/High Value)
DMI Dry Matter Intake predicts differences in daily feed intake as measured in a feedlot during the post-weaning period. (Pounds/Low Value)

DELIVERY POLICY
We encourage buyers to pick up their purchases on sale day or by noon the following day. Free delivery on purchases of $5,000+ per head within Washington or central points in neighboring states. Deliveries will be made at our earliest convenience. Animals left in our care past 15 days will be subject to feed charges. We will make every effort to help you with hauling arrangements. If you are not taking your animal home on sale day, please let the sale barn office know details regarding your pickup or delivery instructions. SATISFACTON GUARANTEE
All females have been pregnancy tested and calving dates projected accordingly. All bulls have passed a complete semen evaluation prior to the sale. TRICH testing has been done on all of the bulls prior to the sale. They are guarenteed breeders for the first 60-day breeding season only. This covers broken penis, disposition, or genetic structural feet or leg problems, verified by a written veterinarian statement within 15 days of loss of use. We reserve the right to a second opinion by a veterinarian of our choice. It does not cover injury or loss of use of a bull, if bull is turned in with other bulls prior to being turned out at the start of the first 60-day breeding season. As full resolution we will provide to Buyer a suitable replacement, or Buyer will receive credit, minus salvage value of original bull, towards purchase of a bull in next year’s sale. This guarantee does not cover death. Mortality insurance is available sale day.

Devastated and utterly heartbroken to share, on behalf of our entire family, that we lost my sister Lucinda Rae Lautenschlager on Friday, October 13th, 2023, to a drug overdose. Lucy was just 30 years old.
Lucy was so much more than the disease of addiction and the mental health struggles that had increasingly consumed her in more recent years. She was my brother Cody’s and I’s first friend, confidant, and childhood partner in crime. She was my mom’s “mini-me” and the one who first made my dad into a “girl dad”. I’ll never forget Lucy being the one I spent all those childhood years with playing at the salon while Mom did clients’ hair, or sitting on Dad’s lunchbox while we rode with him in the tractor or combine.
Lucy was mischievous and a constant smart aleck…she was more blunt than she should’ve been at times and it sometimes got her into trouble. She also had her own unique way of showing true kindness and compassion towards people she cared about or people she wanted to help. She was the one I put on dance recitals with whenever we had visitors over when we were younger, the sister Cody and I constantly built forts with and played “survivor” with down by the river on our family farm growing up…
Lucy was a straight “A” student throughout her entire academic career. She was smart as a whip and very involved with our small-town communities of Endicott and St. John in Whitman County, Washington. She had a degree in small business management with an empahsis in finanace and accounting. Lucy worked many years at the family bank (starting when she was 15,) and had several other jobs including always being our Administrative Assistant and “numbers” gal for our family ranch, working at a credit union, the local Farm Service Agency office, the county newspaper office, the community assisted living, and as a dental assistant. Her potential was limitless...until addiction took over the bright girl we all knew.
We want people to know the truth and tragedy about how Lucy was taken from us, and many of her teenage and adult years stolen from herself, by addiction that started with prescription drugs as a teenager and ultimately led her to “harder” drugs, including the Fentanyl that took her life. We never would have guessed this would be part of Lucy’s story, or our family’s story. Tragically, it is, and here we are writing this to announce the death of our sister, daughter, family member, and friend to many. We want her to be remembered for who she was before her addiction, and we want the reality of her addiction and subsequent passing to serve as a harsh reminder to all that life is short, we mustn’t take our loved ones for granted, and that addiction can happen to anyone. We hope sharing the truth will help others think twice about casual drug-use, even prescription drugs.
We love you and miss you immeasurably, Lucy. We are heartbroken, and we forgive you for the mistakes you made because of your addiction. We wish we had our Lucy back, our sister, our daughter…we wish we had more time with you…we wish you could’ve fought and beat the battles you faced…and we wish you could’ve found true peace and happiness in this life here on earth with us. We hope and pray you’re celebrating with Jesus, and all our loved ones ahead of you, your new eternal life in Heaven…free of worldly pain, suffering and addiction.

- No Regrets is the exciting $37,000 herdsire we purchased from Duff’s. Unfortunately he was injured and couldn’t make a recovery. We are excited about his first progeny that topped our Spring 2024 Sale, including Mar-a-Lago. He’s no longer with us, but he continues to make waves across the Red Angus breed through outstanding progeny.
- One of the exciting young bulls from the spring ‘24 season, Mar-ALago was the lead-off bull and $54,000 high seller in our ‘24 spring sale. He is from the first calf crop sired by the now deceased Duff No Regrets, and maternally is out of a Spur Franchise of Garten daughter that comes from the famed Abigrace tribe. - Undisputed was our pick of the bulls in Berwald’s record setting ‘24 spring sale. He combines performance, style and set of carcass numbers that are second to none. SALE TERMS & CONDITIONS
1.BIDDING
The Auctioneer in charge will settle any disputes as to bids, and his decision on such matters shall be final.
2.TERMS
Terms of sale are cash unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made with Sale Management prior to sale.
3.PURCHASER’S RISK
Each animal becomes the risk of the Buyer as soon as sold, but it shall be the obligation of the Seller to see that animals are fed and cared for free of charge to Buyer, until loaded for shipment or until the expiration of 48 hours after the sale, whichever occurs sooner.
4.
HEALTH
All animals are eligible for interstate shipment, except as otherwise announced. Interstate health papers will be furnished for each animal requiring tuberculosis and brucellosis tests in accordance with Federal Regulations.
5.ANNOUNCEMENTS
Any changes from information of any kind in this catalog will be announced from the auction box and such announcements shall take precedence.
6. DEFAULT
In the event the Buyer defaults on payment, the Buyer shall be responsible for all costs, including attorney’s costs, incurred by Sale Management or Seller in connection with collecting, or attempting to collect, payment due.
7.
BREEDING GUARANTEE
All animals are guaranteed by the seller as outlined in the Red Angus Association of America Code of Ethical Sale Practices.
8. CONTRACT
The above terms and conditions of sale shall constitute a contract between the buyer and seller of each animal and shall be equally binding upon both. Each sale or resale of an animal constitutes a separate transaction.
9.
LIABILITIES
All persons who attend the sale do so at their own risk. The seller, the sale manager, and the auction facility assume no liability for accidents that may occur. It is to be clearly understood that the sale manager and their representatives act only as a medium between the buyer and seller
