TERMS & CONDITIONS:

The cattle sell under the suggested terms and conditions of the American Angus Association (02/18/2009). Terms of the sale are cash unless prior arrangements have been made. All supplements to this catalog or announcements made from the block take precedence over what is written in this sale book.

LIABILITY:

All persons attending the sale and related functions do so at their own risk. JR Ranch, its staff and representatives assume no liability, legal or otherwise, for any accidents or injuries that may occur.

INSPECTION OF CATTLE:

Cattle are available for inspection at their respective ranches any time prior to the sale and at the sale barn on November 16th. Buyers are invited to come early, view the cattle and enjoy refreshments on sale day.

HEALTH AND FERTILITY:

All bulls have passed a complete semen evaluation. OUT OF STATE BUYERS: bulls will not be TRICH tested prior to the sale. Bulls selling to out of state buyers will be TRICH tested after the sale and delivered. Call Jeff with any questions. Bulls are guaranteed to be fertile.

DELIVERY:

BULLS: Pick up your BULLS within 5 days and receive a $100/hd credit. Bulls will be delivered as soon as possible (weather permitting).

FEMALES : We will not be providing delivery. We would like to have all females to their new homes within five days of the sale. We will assist with trucking arrangements if needed.

SATISFACTION GUARANTEE:

All bulls selling for $3000 or more are guaranteed against injury or death for the first breeding season. If for any reason, you are not satisfied with a bull, we will bring you another one, or refund your money (minus salvage value).

Cows sold as bred are guaranteed to calve by April 5, 2023. If a bred female fails to calve we will refund your purchase price (minus salvage value).

VOLUME DISCOUNT:

On any bulls selling for $3000 or more: 5% on 5-9 bulls 10% on 10 or more bulls

BULL WINTERING:

We will keep bulls and deliver them in the spring for $350/hd. Wintering fee is due sale day

My family and I welcome you once again to our Fall Sale. Pumpkin season is winding down, the days are getting shorter, and so is the grass! We hope that moisture is headed our way soon, as it has been a while since a lot of us have seen any. If memory serves me well, I think these themes are common this time of the year when I sit to write this letter. Another thing that struck me the other day as being consistent was the bulls as I walked through them with a camera. Sure, there are always a few that don’t measure up or a couple that really stand out but average bull in this group is easily described as being very moderate framed, deep bodied with lots of capacity and above all else, really thick and well-muscled. They look like bulls. They look like JR Ranch bulls. We have been breeding for this type and kind now for 13 years. That was the year that I bought Unmistakable. He changed our direction. He gave me confidence that I could really have moderate cattle that performed well enough to keep up with, even exceed at times, the big, tall, flat-sided cattle that tended to surface in some of the high performance, number chasing herds around.

These bulls are fed less than most. We could sure get them bigger. I, unlike many, do not necessarily feed them to meet their genetic potential. I believe it’s completely unnecessary. We leave that for the feedlots where terminal performance is a must. These bulls run in some big country at times. I deliver bulls to some outfits that run cows where sheep get scared looking up the mountain or down the gorge. I know I do anyway. So big and fat is great for pictures but is more harmful to these young bulls in my opinion. These guys know how to eat grass.

Our guarantee on these cattle is real. If you have any issues of any kind, any reason, just let us know. We will do our best to resolve any issues you may encounter. We continue to search for cattle with a sounder hoof structure. The entire Angus community, especially here in the west, is in the same boat. There are many popular lines of cattle that remain entrenched in popular pedigrees that require astute attention to weed out the problems. I feel the progress we have made is good, but we still see instances where improvement is a must.

Once again, we will be offering a nice draft of commercial bred heifers. These are heifers purchased from customers and developed here on grass and bred to our angus heifer bulls to start calving mid-February.

As a nice addition, we will also have about 20 head of top-cut open heifers from Marty Hall, M&I Livestock, from the Tucannon River. I have long believed that Marty has developed one of the better cow herds that I have seen. Strong, powerful, good uddered females that work hard and look good doing it. These heifers are well developed and are about as pretty as you can make them. Dot T Ranch from Moses Lake will be selling 10 head of open Angus heifers. 9 of these are eligible to be registered, details will be provided sale day. We bid an earthly farewell to both Roger and Ellie this year. Our lives were changed forever, but those of us who were fortunate enough to know Mom and Dad realize the world was a better place because of the countless lives they touched. We rejoice in the fact that they are together once again; they did not spend too much time apart. God’s providence is a blessing for sure. I often wonder how I got so lucky as to be chosen to be their son. What an honor, what a gift. And what a comfort to know that Jesus Christ has provided victory over death at the foot of the Cross.

Lots 87-92  Same great heifers from Dot T Ranch. These 6 are spring born and AI sired from some of the best programs in the country. 5 eligible for registration here as well. Please call and visit with Todd. This is a family run operation and they are passionate about good Angus cattle.

Lots 101-166  are mountain cattle that survive. These cattle were raised where the country is steep enouch the bighorn sheep have packed up and left a long time ago. They were purchased from long time JR customer in December 2021 and have been on grass ever since. These heifers received no hay last winter, so it is fair to say they can get it done ok.

They will start calving Feb. 15th and done by March 30th. They are bred natural service by two of our own heifer bulls and a super low birth calf we picked up this spring from Sinclair Cattle Co, This is a solid set of sensible, right-sized hefers that originated in the Ray and Molly Stowers herd in White Bird, ID.
