Food producer ensures it remains well known for the right reasons thanks to SEKO partnership When a leading supplier of premium-quality products to the food service industry wanted to improve its surface-cleaning regime, safeguard its consumers and protect its reputation, they turned to cleaning and hygiene experts SEKO for a solution. The UK’s history of food safety incidents is long and ignominious, with high-profile cases during the last 30 years including the late-1980s salmonella scare, the BSE crisis of the early-mid 1990s and an E. coli outbreak in South Wales in 2005. These incidents have led to increasing concern from consumers and regulatory bodies alike over food safety and the consequences of hygiene failures. With producers acutely aware of the need to maintain the highest standards of hygiene in their operations, there is a growing demand for professional surface cleaning and disinfection systems that guarantee results.
“ Its not only a matter of life and death... food producers face fines of up to £20,000”
The threat of E.coli SEKO’s reputation as a world-leading supplier of cleaning and disinfection systems meant they were a natural choice to take on the project, and UK Sales Manager Richard Moore was approached to deliver a solution. Richard says: “The client was running the factory in line with Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety guidelines, and during an inspection they realized that some high walls and awkward surfaces were at risk of contamination. Of course, they wanted to remove these hazards and guarantee that surfaces were being properly cleaned and disinfected in order to protect consumers. “Plus, because they supply a number of highprofile and demanding customers, a food safety incident would have been catastrophic for their brand image and they simply couldn’t afford for that to happen.“

Juggling costs and cleanliness Most food producers are familiar with the dilemma faced by the client – how to balance the necessity of thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing surfaces with the resulting cost of equipment, chemicals, personnel and downtime. With this in mind, the project brief contained several key requirements. Firstly, a fast installation was essential so as not to disrupt day-to-day operations. Secondly, the client wanted a system that enabled its staff to be able to clean surfaces quickly and easily yet thoroughly. Thirdly, budget constraints meant that the client required dosing accuracy to be guaranteed as closely as possible. Finally, it was important that the system had minimal maintenance requirement

An ongoing partnership develops
Opting for a dual-chemical spray and rinse system with 15-metre hose, anti-pollution valve, SEKO spray gun and foam wand, the client was immediately impressed by how fast and simple the ProWash unit was to install, causing no interference at all to normal running of the production facility.
Richard Moore was delighted at such glowing feedback and the subsequent development of a successful collaboration between SEKO, the food producer and its chemical supplier: “Once the equipment’s effectiveness was conclusively proved, the client was quick to order further ProWash units to be installed in the facility, with the intention of creating factory-wide consistency in their cleaning regimes.
Since fitting the system, the client has reported excellent results with all aspects of their brief satisfied, including: • Consistently accurate dilution. • Fast, easy installation. • Supplied metering tips make it easy to fine tune chemical dosage – and save money. • Having no extra booster pumps means lower initial cost and reduced maintenance while still delivering excellent performance. • Designed-in safe storage reduces trip risks and helps keep operatives safe. • Ease of use and low maintenan

Environment At SEKO, we are committed to creating products that minimise chemical, water and energy consumption and reduce wastage. It’s at the heart of everything we do for our customers. It’s not only about the process, though. Every component used in our systems is chosen with care and consideration and we always ask ourselves the difficult questions: What is the environmental impact of this part during production, use and disposal, and how can we reduce it? By designing high-quality, long-lasting products with minimal consumable parts and using responsiblysourced parts that are recyclable wherever possible, we not only reduce our own carbon footprint but also help our customers to minimise waste and achieve their own sustainability targets. As a long-time champion of IoT and data on demand, we invest in the latest technology to connect users to their systems remotely and help them vastly reduce their travel requirement. Since 2017, we have transformed our internal packaging by replacing polystyrene sheets and blocks with item-specific FSC-approved cardboard, allowing customers to recycle all waste after delivery. All this is achieved as we work in accordance with the internationally recognised ISO 14001 management system for environmental compliance, ensuring we always operate to the latest legislation.
People To us, corporate sustainability extends beyond the environment to our responsibility towards the people we employ and serve. With the human aspect of business forever in view, we treat customers and staff with respect, honesty and trust at all times. The global influence of our next-generation products would not be possible without the rich blend of ideas, opinions and innovations brought by a workforce of more than 1,500 professionals from a diverse range of cultures and backgrounds across six continents. And with a non-hierarchal approach that means every member of the SEKO team is equally valued for their contribution, we foster a positive, inclusive working environment in which each person can thrive, develop their skills and take pride in their work.
