Principal Ideas Welcome to the “long haul” month of March as I refer to it - the time between Presidents' Day weekend and our Easter Break. If Mother Nature was properly taking care of us, we would be emerging from our rainy season and welcoming the season of Spring. Well, spring is arriving regardless of our rain count which I believe has us all a bit anxious as to what our water supply will be in the coming months.

Let me begin my remarks by thanking you for your patience during the various construction projects around the School campus. The schools’ front lawn is returning, the City’s installation of fiber optic cable on East Sierra Madre Blvd went off without a hitch and both sides of Michillinda are again fully open to all traffic. Actually, the Michillinda project finished a week early! When was the last time something like that occurred? Leave it to the City of Sierra Madre to set a fine example!

Admission Season As you may recall from your own admission experiences, February and March are key months in the school’s admission season. The members of our Admission Committee have been scrutinizing test scores, transcripts, evaluation forms, interview worksheets and recommendation letters for approximately 420 applicants. On Friday, March 6 we will be mailing our decision letters to waiting eighth graders and parents. This is a daunting task each year for the Admission Committee because of the importance of selecting Mission appropriate students who will benefit from being part of our school community. As in the past years, we will be enrolling a new ninth grade class of approximately 155 students. I have no doubt that once again, we will be blessed with a wonderful group of new students and families who will Continued on page 2
