“Don’t ever go to the bathroom alone. You never know what might happen if you’re alone.” “If you are walking home alone don’t wear your hair in a pony tail. I, a senior high school girl who is seventeen do not accept this. I do not want to be afraid anymore. I do not want to have to hear my family tell me about how they fear for me about going away to college or traveling the world because I am a woman. YES. I AM A WOMAN. And this is such a beautiful thing. I am a young beautiful woman that can achieve and become anything that I want to be. I can do just as much, if not more than what a man can do. It is not a negative thing that I want to go away for college, and study abroad. It is not a bad thing. The horrible thing about the entirety of this world is that we have let this male dominant society and cycle of violence continue on for centureis. We have the power to change the way that we are affected by the series of events that we encounter throughout our lifetime, and we have done nothing. We need to be doing something so that the future women of our world will not have to encounter the devestation of constantly living in fear. Fear of the uncontrolable wrath of the man. Fear of being unable to do anything in the presence of a man. Fear of always being less than a man. I want to empwer all the women out there by saying you can do anyting that you want to as long as you put your mind to it. Anything is possible with your hard work and contribution. I believe in us. I believe that both women and men need to wake up and work in union with one another in order to create a harmonious world. We can empower one another by ending the slut shaming because of how a girl looks, dresses, or talks. Slut shaming one another only solidifies an argument for men to slut shame us. Let us recognize one another as human beings that are trying to find ourselves in one another. We need this. Empowering one another is the begininng of a new era for us where we can embark on a journey of reform. In this November issue éleonore magazine hopes that a spark of intersest in making this world a better place ignites with in you. Be informed! Learn! Love! -Elizabeth Ayala Editor-in-Chief

What is Rape Culture? Rape Culture is a term that envelopes “the ways in which society blames victims of sexual assault and normalizes male sexual violence.” (wavaw.ca - What is Rape Culture?). This term was coined in the 1970s, but is still in use today because of how prevalent the actions associated with it are in today’s society. Seeing as we live in a patriarchal society, it is predominantly men who use their power and rank to normalize sexual violence. Men who make sexual threats and then excuse them as nothing more than “locker room talk” directly appropriate and encourage rape culture. This is one of the most recent instances in which sexual violence has been downplayed. However this dismissal of accountability is only one out of a million ways rape culture is enforced every single day. Double-standards: A woman’s body is hypersexualized in everything she does. Even mothers, who are helping nourish their children by breast feeding, are put down because they are showing “too much” of their bodies. While men who are allowed to go shirtless almost anywhere, are never put down for showing more skin than usual or for showing their nipples. Women and young girls are often told to be cautious of their surroundings, to never go to the bathroom alone, not to bring too much attention to themselves, etc. However, they are also told not to worry too much, to be more trusting of men, to smile and be friendly. These contradicting opinions are placed upon girls from a very young age and continue to persist throughout their lives. (huffingtonpost.com - Tell me There’s no Rape Culture) Double standards contribute to the blaming of victims. The most commonly asked question of a rape victim is always, and without a doubt, “But, what were you wearing?” This is a direct example of rape culture. The question reduces the victim to nothing more than a provocative being who uses clothing to emphasize their “sexual nature”. Victims do not bring rape upon themselves and they are never “asking for it”. Clothing does not imply consent. What I put on my body, whether it is to express myself or to fit within the guidelines of a dress code, has nothing to do with my consent. Nor should it place the blame on me for other people’s actions or lack of focus. Rape culture is everywhere and it affects many aspects of women’s lives. This article is meant to inform those who do not know what rape culture is or how it presents itself. I do not intend to blame men for rape culture. In fact, I feel that in order to stop rape culture, men and women need to be united in learning about it, educating others, and in ending it. “We need to notice this stuff, get outraged, and share our outrage with others.” (What is Rape Culture?).

Whenever
I’m asked who or what my inspiration is, I always say my dad is my inspiration because it’s the easier thing to say, just like I did in Eléonore’s February issue in the “Eléonore who” section at the back of the issue. But the more I think about it, it seems as if I don’t have an inspiration, not right now at least. It sounds bad, yes, but it doesn’t mean that I don’t have any aspirations, or that I’m lost in life. I am just following the series of events that lead to one another (going with the flow), relying on my thoughts, feelings and intuition to take me to where I need to be, and help me become the person I’m meant to be. And it is a risky thing to not have everything planned out because that was not how I was raised. I was raised to always have a next step, instead of believing that I would end up wherever I was meant to be. There are definitely people that I admire, but they aren’t necessarily my inspiration. There have been so many people that have come in and out of my life that have made an impact on me, and yes, I do pick up some of their habits, but they only last for so long. It’s nothing that influences me for a lifetime. Everything I do is out of my own curiosity and for myself. I don’t let what society thinks is the “perfect person” influence who I am, because in reality, there is no such thing as a “perfect person.” People say that so many times and it’s become a cliche, but I doubt everyone understands it. We should not only be thriving to be the best version of ourselves, but also learning to accept who we are. the article continues onto the next page
Without a doubt, the acceptance of one’s self is difficult to everyone especially since we are living in a society that is constantly putting people down instead of bringing them up. Everyone is obsessed with numbers that “tell us who we are.” And it’s hard to believe that we aren’t these numbers because we have been trained to believe that it is the truth. It’s hard to believe that numbers aren’t who we are when you have numbers that identify that you are a person (Social Security Number), when you’re sending your transcripts and SAT/ACT scores to the colleges you’re applying to, or when you’re looking at the numbers on a scale or a tape measure, or the amount of followers and likes you have. You aren’t those things, numbers were only created for us, humans, to help understand things and other people, and we have given them too much value in today’s society.
“I don’t let what society thinks is the ‘perfect person’ influence who I am, because in reality, there is no such thing as a ‘perfect person.’ ” We have relied on other people’s likes and dislikes, and have conformed to their ideas. You should never change for other people to like you, but change for you to like you, and for you to love you and who you are as a person. As humans, we have this constant craving to be wanted, loved, and needed but we often forget that we need to love ourselves. What good is other people’s love when you don’t love yourself? Your humble love for yourself is the most important thing for your mental health. You are the only person you need to love, every person you love in addition to yourself is a choice that you make. You don’t have to love them because it is out of your own free will, but you have to love yourself in the most humble way possible in order to move on in life and live life to its full potential.
“We should not only be thriving to be the best version of ourselves, but also learning to accept who we are.”
Sarah Day’s Fall Decorations! Here are her tips on how to achieve the cosiest room
Now that Fall is upon us, it’s time to embrace the season: the weather is going to change, sweaters are going to be worn, and Pumpkin Spice Lattes are going to be ordered. If these things don’t put you in the Fall mood, then Fall decorations will, especially Falldecorations for your bedroom. 1. Candles-Candles are the best way to transform any room into the Fall spirit. The scent allows the decorations to appeal to your sense of smell as the other decorations appeal to your sense of sight. My favorite Fall candles are Bath and Body Works’ Warm Apple Pie ($22.50), Fireside ($22.50) and Pumpkin Spice ($22.50). Treat your nose to the scents of Fall! 2. Lights-Although it seems so simple, hanging white Christmas lights in your room will really change the room’s mood. It gives the room an extra feeling of warmth, and when the Christmas season comes, you’re ready to go! 3a & 3b. Blankets and Pillows-My favorite part of Fall is the colder weather, so my room is always decorated with extra blankets and pillows. By using heavier blankets, and fun Fall-decorated pillows, your room has an extra Fall feel compared to the feel it would have if it were just regular extra pillows and blankets. 4. Pumpkins-See the next page for our cute, custom pumpkin DIY!

My Life on Set: American Horror Story Among the thousands of aspiring makeup artists for television and film in Los Angeles, I was given a very special opportunity when I met Eryn Krueger Mekash, 25 time Emmy Nominee and Makeup Department Head on American Horror Story, over two years ago. I reached out to Eryn via Facebook after I initially met her at the International Makeup Artists Trade Show because I had some questions about the makeups from the show. To make a long story short, instead of answering my questions, she told me to come see for myself. The next thing I knew I was in the heart of Los Angeles at FOX Studios as the Makeup Production Assistant on American Horror Story. I was assisting artists that are my idols such as Mike Mekash (SFX Makeup Department Head), Kim Ayers (Assistant Department Head of Makeup), Silvi Knight (Makeup Artist), and many more artists such as Carleigh Herbert and Bart Mixon. Before I get into my experiences of working on the show, I am assuming most people do not know what a Makeup Production Assistant is. Essentially, my job consisted of doing everything the makeup artists didn’t have time for. I did everything from making coffee to cleaning makeup brushes to reading lines with actors and everything in between. I was able to see all of the amazing makeup and hair transformations come to life in the trailer, and I learned so much from it. All the people I worked with were invested in my career as a makeup artist and were willing to teach me everything they learned over the years. My first time working on the American Horror Story set was during Season 5: Hotel. To say the least, I was terrified. I was a 16-year- old high school student stepping into the very grown up world of Hollywood. I was surrounded by people who were two, maybe three times my age and I was expected to act like them, which is to say "mature". Among these people were my makeup icons and famous actors. It was overwhelming. It was also completely perfect. Once my first day was over, I knew that this was where I was meant to be. I was home. Everyday I got to go see Eryn, Mike, Kim, and Silvi do outstanding makeups and transform the actors into their roles. It was a complete dream and I was learning so much in the process. Some of my favorite transformations were done on Sarah Paulson as Sally, Denis O’Hare as Liz Taylor, Evan Peters as Mr. March, and Alexander Ward as the addiction demon. Each makeup was so different from the others and they all showcased new techniques and products that I didn’t even know existed. Only 4 short weeks after I started, I checked out of the Hotel Cortez and went back to my life as a high school student. When I came back to the show for Season 6: Roanoke, it was like coming home to my second family. I was welcomed back with so much love from the makeup team and I immediately fell back into my old routine as their assistant. It felt like I never left. The makeup department gave me some more opportunities and responsibilities on this season because I was more experienced. I learned even more than I did on Season 5! I was able to do blood tubing and some puppeteer work on this season, which was a completely new experience for me. The best part of working on this season was seeing the makeup and hair crew pull together to create amazing looks for the actors. Some of my favorites were Kathy Bates as The Butcher, Evan Peters as Edward Philip Mott, and the Piggy Man. After 2 months on Season 6, I returned to high school for my senior year.
The best parts about this job were the relationships I made. Eryn, Mike, and Kim are basically my second parents. They all look out for me, take care of me, and I am so grateful that I was able to form such a strong relationship with them. Carleigh was my comic relief whenever things got stressful and Silvi was always making sure I was learning something new. Michelle and Valerie from the hair department always made sure I was laughing and having a good time. The American Horror Story crew is a special one, and I was so fortunate to be a part of it. After being on the show for two seasons, I have learned a lot. Most of what I learned involves makeup and how to take care of a makeup trailer, which is very important for a future makeup artist like myself. However, the MOST important thing that I learned on the show was that if you want something, you have to go out and get it. I want to be a makeup artist, so I jumped at this opportunity and it jumpstarted my career. My advice to everyone is to follow your passion, whatever that may be. Don’t be afraid to take chances and don’t let any obstacles hold you back. Above all else, do what you love and love what you do.
Much love! -Eden

Crit ter Corner Thanksg By Tess
Greetings Critter Lovers! Tis the holiday season of get togethers and big family meals. First on the list is none other than Thanksgiving. And as our furry friends look on from under the table with envy as we eat our scrumptious meals, most of us feel an urge to share some of our food. While sharing is caring and I too fall victim to giving into my dog’s eyes and giving him some scraps off my plate, there are certain foods that we must be mindful of as they can be harmful to our clawed companions’ health and wellbeing.
Not OK to Share Turkey Bones
While any dog loves a good ol’ bone, turkey bones can be very dangerous for your beloved pup as they can splinter and get stuck in the dog’s throat or tummy. So these are best to avoid.
Chocolate or Any Desserts
Most of us know chocolate is harmful for dogs and other human treats can be too. Cake or any other desserts that contain dough are not good as the dough can painfully rise in dogs’ stomachs and make them sick. Instead, toss your friend a doggie treat when dessert time rolls around.
Alcohol
While this one may seem obvious, many of us leave our drinks on a coffee table or other surfaces our pets can reach. So make sure to remind your older relatives to be mindful where they set their glasses down, as alcohol is very dangerous to dogs.
giving Guide for Dogs Gauthier
OK To Share Turkey Meat
Turkey meat can be a great tasty treat as long as you avoid bones, skin, and any fatty parts. Just focus on small amounts of white meat that is well cooked for sharing.
Mashed Potatoes
Potatoes are a good choice to share with your doggie, as long as they are plain. Do not serve the potatoes with any additional ingredients and they are ready to go!
Macaroni and Cheese
Everyone loves good ol’ cheese, and so do our dogs. Macaroni and Cheese is a delicious food to share as long as it can handle dairy. If not, wash away the cheese and the plain macaroni is alright.
Just remember, we do not want our furry friends to get upset stomachs, so only share small amounts of food.
Ending Note
While there are some kinds of food listed above that can be shared with dogs, the most safe and healthy food to feed your furry friend is none other than dog food and treats. So the best option this holiday season would be to stick with food specifically made for dogs, but if you are feeling a tad festive, head to your local pet store where they usually sell decorated holiday dog treats.

Stay tuned for our “Very Merry Christmas” issue coming out this December! An exquisite piece called “Inherently Sexual Bodies” will be featured at the begininng of the issue. It will address how women are affected by society
