SIGNUM FIDEI WITH TYPOGRAPHY
UPDATED CORPORATE BRAND
After a review of some of the Institute’s archives, the Signum Fidei was completely redrawn and the possibility of accompanying it with typography was included to reinforce the identification of the Brothers at ecclesial and civil levels. Likewise, versions were created for Regions, Districts, Delegations, cities and countries.
The updated corporate brand of the Lasallian Educational Mission (La [star] Salle) includes changes in the proportions of some of the elements that make up the brand; also the points of the star were rounded.

EXTENDED GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION
NEW STRATEGY OF BELONGING
APPROACH TO COBRANDING
Both the Signum Fidei and the corporate brand may be used to locate ministries in the same country or Region. This represents the possibility of extending their use outside the administrative denominations (Regions, Districts, Delegations) and when circumstances require it.
To facilitate the use of local logos together with the corporate brand, the name "We are La Salle" is included for internal communications, and "Member of La Salle" for external communications, which broadens the possibilities of use in different pieces, both digital and printed.
The strategy of belonging opens up the possibility of harmonising the use of the local logos or brands with the international brand; using the customised international brand, redesigning some local brands, as well as taking advantage of the new colour palette for the redesigns of the graphic aspects in the current uses of the local brands.

TABLE OF CONTENTS AND TOP 5 1. INTRODUCTION
1.1.
About this manual This new Identity Manual for La Salle Worldwide (the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools) introduces an update of the original handbook published in 2010, which only covered the uses of the corporate brand, i.e., the logo (La [star] Salle).
These two pages contain the summary of the Identity Manual. In addition to the table of contents, include the five main axes of the content, which are the preamble to the more than 80 pages containing the new rules and proposals for the application of the La Salle Worldwide brands.
HISTORICAL AND SYMBOLIC RESEARCH Standardising and modernising the most traditional symbol of the Institute, the Signum Fidei, was one of the most difficult tasks for the team who has worked on this manual. Some elements were perfectly justified in the historical bulletins found in the archives, but other elements had to undergo heraldic and semiotic research to determine their origin and meaning.
The 2021 Identity Manual seeks to enhance the corporate image, to enrich its graphic identity, and to promote a clear and coherent use of it in all Districts in relation to other regional or national brands. A strong corporate brand will favour an international vision of the brand and will complement the tradition and strength of local brands, making the diversity of cultural richness bring unity to our image worldwide.
RESTRUCTURING OF KEY ELEMENTS As for the corporate brand, this manual makes some changes to its graphic structure in order to maintain the same essence and form, adjusting it to a new structure that will provide more flexibility in its application, especially for cobranding developments with the ministries.

DOWNLOADABLE DOCUMENTS AND FILES* On most of the odd-numbered pages there is a coloured strip where you will find instructions, recommendations and files to download logos, templates and videos that will be available on the Institute's website. These are the file types that are available: Use .PNG for on-screen application development (72 dpi resolution with transparency). Use .AI or .EPS for use in curves in all types of publications. They can be resized without loss of quality. Use .WMF in software applications (MS Office, Open Office, etc.) as it is vectorial and transparent, it will not deform when scaled. Use .SVG for mobile applications and in web formats compatible with HTML 5. Use .PSD as a template to create JPG or PNG images for the website. Use .MP4 to embed directly into presentations or as a video bumper in web applications.
In addition, some pages contain explanations related to the application of structures, best practices in the development of graphic pieces and general recommendations.

KEY ELEMENTS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA
PROPOSALS OF COMMERCIAL PROMOTION
UNIFIED STATIONERY
Among the new elements is the online tagging system so that the social media presence may have a global impact #WeareLaSalle.
This manual considered some applications of the brand on everyday items, including face masks due to COVID-19, as well as application on uniforms, bottles and mugs.
The new strategy and the new branding system will allow standardisation within the individuality of each ministry. The plan is that everything will have common elements without having to be the same.

The diversity of ministries in the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools around the world is very significant and wide-ranging, which represents a challenge from the point of view of brand identity development. The new branding focuses mainly on the people who in one way or another are linked to the mission (Brothers and lay people, alumni, students, parents, volunteers, etc.). The shapes and colours are a way of representing the values which throughout history have identified Lasallian educational ministries and their vocation for education, in service to humanity, the environment, and a Christian view of culture and in dialogue with other religions.

2.1.1.
The new seal The assignment of updating the graphic identity of an Institute with more than 300 years of history involved a search in archives and sources in order to understand the motivations, intentions and logics from which the first Brothers worked to choose the visual elements that made up the first seal and to understand its historical evolution. This entailed an exercise of interpretation and association between some of the elements that make up the Signum Fidei, since the materials consulted do not provide many details that give an account of the previous transformations of the brand, but only of the decisions taken in the General Chapters.
The work with the Signum Fidei consisted of reviewing the elements that constitute it, looking for the meaning of each of the parts and defining these six distinctive features: the silver star, the azure blazon (in heraldry it is the name of the dark blue enamel), the words that shape the Signum Fidei, the lily (fleur-de-lis) that crowns the symbol, the laurels on the sides, and the shell at the bottom. Each of these characteristics has an origin that could not be fully evidenced in the review that was done. However, as part of the exercise a meaning will be given to create a precedent on which to continue with the work of brand building. In the Bulletin of the Institute No. 148 of 1957, in the section on Documents and Archives, Br Henri comments at the beginning: «The seal of our Institute, whose origins date back to the General Chapter of 1751, shows a silver star on a blue blazon with the simple motto Signum Fidei. It has no connection with the origin of the term "Our Lady of the Star"». As Circular 354 explained so well, the origins of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Star at Montebourg are lost in legend. But, with regard to the adoption of this name by our Institute, the Commission of the 38th General Chapter of 1956 made this apt observation: "The primitive seal of the Institute, its emblem, if you will, in the time of our holy Founder, presented a Child Jesus of about 9 or 10 years of age, of school age, between Mary and Joseph. The star, with the inscription Signum Fidei, was later adopted by a General Chapter”. Some Brothers and external religious who have carried out research into the origin of the symbol which led to the Signum Fidei of today, refer to the seal used in the Founder's time, which shows the Holy

Family with the Child Jesus of school age. Later, between 1726 and 1739, on the first page of certain publications of the Institute, there is a vignette in which only Joseph and the Child Jesus appear, and in the description of this vignette emphasis is placed on the lily in Joseph's hand. The General Chapter of 1751 standardised the seal with three of the six essential elements of the current sign: the blue blazon in the background, above it a shining silver star, and the text "Signum Fidei". In view to clarify on which reasons the Brothers based their decision in 1751, a formal semiotic analysis of the seal used by Brother Timothy between 1736 and 1742 was made to justify some of the characteristics of the redrawn seal as shown in figure 1. Figure 1 shows the formal analysis in which the following accounts are articulated: 1. The silver star would be the representation of Jesus. This is perhaps the most represented element in all the iconographic
development of the Institute; it is even the one chosen by the Brothers to be the isotype representing the educational mission accompanied by the word La Salle (corporate brand).
correct, and urges that the convention of heraldry be used for this purpose; thus, the pattern of horizontal background lines will be used in such a case.
The image is inspired by the Founder's Meditation 96.2 for the Feast of the Magi (6 January) and refers to a "holy audacity" that led the Magi to follow that star. The whole meditation reflects De La Salle’s own admiration for them, and the fact that they followed God's signs so faithfully. In that sense, they represent the same kind of providential trust that he reflected throughout his life. For this reason, the "star" became the "star of faith".
3. The lily (fleur-de-lis) that Joseph carried in his hand is now in the crown of the symbol. When reviewing the work of Casamayor (2009) on heraldry and the meaning of some characteristics of the blazons, it is possible to note that, although each flower has its own meaning, it is an icon that generally embodies the fragile and delicate beauty, the divine grace of nature and the offering. On his part, Chevalier et.al (2014) state that the flower is often presented as an archetypal figure of the soul. Furthermore, the meaning of the fleur-delis (the lily) could be attributed to the origin of the Institute in France, as it was a symbol used by French royalty on their coats of arms and family crests.
2. The azure blazon would be the representation of the sky as the suggested background. Although the representations obtained in the bulletin are in black and white, some of the photographs show how this seal was used as a dry seal or wax seal within written communications. It is noted one correction mentioned by Brother Henri in the text, in which he clarifies that the one-ink depictions of the Signum Fidei showing the star within the "empty" or blank blazon is not
On the other hand, the three elements that compose the flower may also be a reference to the consecration of the Brothers to the most Holy Trinity, which makes sense when placed under the words Signum Fidei.

2.1.1.
The new seal Process of composition of the new seal
All of the above served as input to begin the process of updating the new seal. The term "new" refers to the fact that it was totally redrawn in a grid of horizontal and vertical lines to locate each of the elements. In general, a traditional design process was carried out, starting with a thorough investigation of each feature in order to find out how to redraw it completely, or by tracing some of the existing elements in the seal that was being used. Figure 2 shows the six elements that compose the seal of the Institute and which comply in the first instance with what was determined in the General Chapter of 1751, specifically for elements 1, 2 and 3. The other elements have been added in the course of the 18th and 19th centuries as is evident in the bulletin that analyses the Signum Fidei. However, there is no semiotic explanation for elements 4, 5 and 6, so it is speculatively understood that at the time the artist added some features as decorative elements typical of the period. In this sense, some of the distinctive features that have been retained - such as the golden branches at the bottom are largely for aesthetic purposes. With regard to element 6 referring to the shell, the bulletin never mentions its origin and in the images of the Signum Fidei of 1844, 1850 and 1874, in the lower central part, plant-like forms similar to bouquets of small flowers or even a leaf similar to the vine can be seen. Later, in the evidences of 1924, 1945 and 1952, the shell clearly appears, although in the writing there is no mention of the reason for its use or the meaning it gives to the whole. At this point it remains to resort to heraldic research related to the use of molluscs in the blazons, which are related to pilgrimage, that journey made by the believer to a sacred place. In this way, the elements and the meaning given to them are presented one by one, so that from now on a point of analysis can be created to understand how the Signum Fidei brings together the whole symbolic universe that represents the Institute and serves as an identifying visual feature:

4. The fleur-de-lis: this is the French representation of the lily. On the seal it carries three simultaneous meanings: firstly, it represents the consecration to the most Holy Trinity; secondly, the French origin of both Saint John Baptist de La Salle and the congregation; and finally, as a sign pointing north as used in the compass rose on maps in antiquity.
5. Laurels: the laurel has had several meanings in human history, immortality being one of them. In this case, it also represents the continuity of the essence of the Institute based on its principles and values. In addition, it is a symbol of science, good reputation and unchanging spirit, represented above all by the evergreen hue of its leaves.
6. The pilgrim's shell: it is a symbol of the missionary journey of the Brothers throughout the world, fulfilling their commitment to God, humanity and environment.
1. The shining silver star: the star is, has been and will be one of the most appropriate institutional symbols for the entire Lasallian community. It is used as the isotype of the corporate brand of the Lasallian Educational Mission. It is accompanied by fifteen shining rays as a symbol of enlightenment, and is the focal point of the seal that recalls the journey initiated by the Magi towards Jesus (Meditation 96.2), and continued by Christians. 2. The azure blazon: the blazon, which in heraldic terms is made of dark blue enamel and is called azure. It symbolises the sky and at the same time the global presence of the Brothers and Lasallians around the world. 3. The motto "Signum Fidei": the Institute, made up of men who are ministers and ambassadors of Jesus Christ, is a sign of faith in the midst of society. A faith that is shared and enriched by the active presence of lay men and women who bring the Gospel to the world of education.

Versions of the Signum Fidei Isotype for use by the Institute
THE SIGNUM FIDEI AS AN ISOTYPE As explained in chapter 1 of this manual, the Signum Fidei will be the element of the Institute's brand that will identify particularly, but not exclusively, the history and administrative organisation of the Brothers. There are two ways of using it: the first is presented on this page as an isotype as a whole (including the words "SIGNUM FIDEI"). The second, presented on the following pages, is where the isotype is accompanied by the typeface with the name of the Institute. The use that will be made of this isotype brand is the development of communication pieces that directly represent the administrative structure of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. That is to say, it may be used in publications of the Institute, the Regions, the Districts and the Delegations. Some examples of how to use the Signum Fidei in this version can be seen in the subsection on correct and incorrect uses. However, it is important to clarify that it can only be used in the black, grey ones, negative and institutional blue versions. Under no circumstances may the isotype be used in other colours, even if they are from the chromatic palette defined in this manual, unless it is a one-colour publication in which there is no other alternative for printing.
RECOMMENDED USE
1. POSITIVE ISOTYPE LOGO IN BLACK 75%
2. POSITIVE ISOTYPE LOGO IN 100% BLACK
This use is the most recommended for all types of black and white communications or publications. As can be seen, the base ink (in this case black) is not at 100% but at 75%; this allows a better visualisation of the general details of the Signum Fidei. This use is ideal for medium and large sizes in print media such as books or reports.
This version of the logo is ideal for reduced sizes in printed documents as it facilitates the definition of the shapes. It is important to bear in mind that in the black and white versions the horizontal lines of the blazon, and those of the shadows of the star must be maintained due to heraldic conventions, as well as the clarification made in the Institute's historical documents.

3. NEGATIVE ISOTYPE LOGO
4. POSITIVE ISOTYPE LOGO IN INSTITUTIONAL BLUE
5. ISOTYPE LOGO IN COLOUR
It is common to find in the Institute's communications the use of coloured backgrounds or photographs on which a reversed use of the logo in one ink is required. It is important to take into account the level of contrast between the background and the logo, as it is possible that in the less saturated colours of the palette or in light photographs, the details may not be appreciated or may not be displayed correctly.
This is the most recommended use for the stand-alone isotype as it is presented in the blue colour chosen as institutional. In this sense, it can be used in the development of web pieces and pieces that will be printed in colour for internal communications.
This colour version is exclusively for use on commemorative posters, diplomas or special awards. The yellow tone can be replaced by gold ink in the case of special prints. It can also be used for the creation of metal pins, buttons and thread embroidery on fabric for flags, pennants and other types of clothing, including those used for liturgical celebrations.

Versions of the Signum Fidei Isotype + typography horizontal version
Signum Fidei: The Institute Brand This is the brand to identify the Institute, and particularly the Brothers. There is the option of using it in a horizontal and vertical version depending on the format and design of the pieces in which it is used, leaving it to the designer's discretion which of the two to use. However, the horizontal version is preferably recommended. The main part of this version of the logo will be accompanied by the wording "Brothers of the Christian Schools" in the different official languages (French, Spanish and English), or by the name by which the Brothers are known wherever the brand is used. This use has three versions: one in 75% black (grey), one in institutional blue (which is the most recommended use), and one in negative (white) for when used on coloured backgrounds or on photographs. See correct and incorrect uses.
SECOND LEVEL FOR REGIONS, DISTRICTS and DELEGATIONS
The Signum Fidei will be the brand used by the Brothers to represent the Institute. Versions were created for the Regions and Districts in Indivisa Text Serif font in Bold with a height of 2x for capital letters. It should be written in lower case and with initial capital letters for each word. There is also a version to include a third level of information for units of each Region or District.

INCREASED SIZE
In digital One of the main objectives of this new manual is to establish rules so that the different brands of the Institute may become clear and unified. In this sense, the new outline of the Signum Fidei seeks to better define the shapes. Therefore, there will be minimum measures for its use, seeking clarity and legibility in most cases. The size recommendations are proposed according to the type of piece and the reproduction medium. In the case of digital uses, the measurements are proposed in pixels and in printed uses in millimetres. In addition, minimum proportions are suggested for the use of the brand in the possible pieces.
1/3
MINIMUM SCREEN SIZE
PROPOSED STRUCTURE FOR SOCIAL MEDIA
This size is defined according to the white space between the lines of the blazon on which the star lays. This space shall be 1 pixel so that it can be properly appreciated.
One of the most common uses will be the application of Signum Fidei on social media such as Instagram. In these cases, the size is calculated according to the size of the publication (post). It is proposed that the width corresponds to one third of the total width of the post. In any case, the location given to the Signum Fidei within the piece will be at the discretion of the designer depending on the type of publication being developed.
Thus, when using Signum Fidei alone, the minimum screen size will be 65 pixels wide by 74 pixels high to maintain the ratio and the dimension. In the case of the horizontal and vertical versions, one of the two sizes may vary depending on the language in which it is used. For the horizontal version a minimum height of 74 pixels will be used, and the width will depend on the text and language used; to this end, you will need to resize the logo using the locked dimension ratio. For the vertical version, the width of 65 pixels will be the guideline and the height will depend on the amount of information below the Signum Fidei. In screen version, the Signum Fidei may be applied to email signatures.
For Instagram and Facebook stories the same rule will apply and the width will be one third of the width of the piece being prepared for its publication. The minimum size is applied differently as these types of pieces are prepared with screen dimensions (from 1024 pixels wide). Therefore, the size varies according to these dimensions and the proportion is applied.

MINIMUM SIZE FOR PRINTING
STRUCTURE FOR BANNERS AND BILLBOARDS
The minimum size for printing is generated in order to ensure that the elements are printed in the best possible way. However, bearing in mind that different types of printing will to a certain extent determine the sharpness depending on the reduced size, just as offset printing at 300 dpi might achieve high line sharpness, the same might not be true for a billboard at 36 dpi.
The minimum sizes for use in print or large format advertising are based on a grid that divides the area into 16 parts. The minimum size should be in proportion to the height of one of these sub-areas while maintaining the appearance of the width of the logo without deforming it.
In any case, the minimum printed size should not be less than 23 mm wide by 26 mm high for the Signum Fidei isotype version, and the same proportions apply in width for the vertical version and in height for the horizontal version. It is not recommended to use the minimum size of the Signum Fidei negative, as some printing techniques have a dot gain that would cause some of the lines at this size to disappear.
The position of the logo within the composition of the piece will depend on the choice of the designer who develops the visual aspect of such piece.

EXAMPLE OF APPLICATION
In PRINT For printing it is important to identify the medium to be used in order to choose the best size for each design. There are several basic stationery applications that could be in common use such as letterhead or also the use of Signum Fidei on business cards, for which the recommendations regarding minimum size should be respected. For communication pieces printed in newspapers, magazines, muppies in the streets, billboards and other mass media, the size of the brand application will depend on the proportions. Therefore, for these cases, minimum sizes will not be defined with exact measurements but proposals for use related to proportions with respect to the medium.

Most of the correct uses are set out in the previous pages. Here are some concrete examples of some applications that are permitted.
Polskiej Prowincji
Use your own language to identify yourself in each country or region. The Indivisa Font has all kinds of special characters.
Correct uses
It is possible to use one of the dark colours from the palette. It is recommended to be sure to apply it to the whole set. This use is permitted for printing with a special ink.
This section is not intended to restrict the possibilities. It only outlines the most common applications, as well as the mistakes that can be made in the implementation of the brand. The negative version should be used for degraded backgrounds or photographs. It is important to check the contrast level for good readability.
It is possible to use similar colours as they are seen as watermarks. Sufficient contrast is recommended.
The Signum Fidei should be used in colour for embroidered blazons, flags, badges, pins or diplomas. It is important not to include any text aside or below, and to use it centred.

Change the colour of the isotype and its font (the whole set should be in institutional blue in one ink).
Deform the logo in case adjustments are required or lose the ratio and dimension in case it is resized.
Use gradients within the Signum Fidei (it is recommended to use it in negative on a gradient background in this case).
Use a combination of colours low contrasted colour scheme as this does not allow sufficient legibility.
Eliminate elements of the isotype, especially the background of the star, as the azure enamel of the blazon, in heraldry, is represented by the horizontal lines when it is not coloured.

Brand update process
A GLOBAL BRAND, POSITIONED AND APPROPRIATED BY THE LASALLIAN FAMILY
STEP 1. ANALYSIS OF THE EXISTING BRAND
Some design elements of the 2010 version were revised, especially in the constituent elements of the star. A study and revision of the proportions of some letters and the spacing between them was also carried out.
STEP 2. CREATING THE STRUCTURE
Using the star as a base, a reverse engineering process was carried out to define a structure in which the star would end each of its points in a crossing of lines, and matching the base of the typography.
This exercise has consisted of updating the logo (2010) that identifies thousands of the Institute's ministries around the world; it complements a new strategy of institutional identity of cobranding that is characterised by the inclusion of new graphic elements and the words: "Somos”, "We are" and "Nous sommes". In this sense, new elements appear that will accompany the brand according to the different uses it is given: squares that frame while leaving open spaces to connote the openness of the Lasallian spirit, and new versions in standardised colours with a wide and dynamic chromatic palette. The Indivisa Font typeface family was also implemented as part of the new elements accompanying the La Salle brand to create new uses, especially for digital media that require square or round images in some cases. In short, the new look of the brand corresponds to a visual development that respects the history and background of the logo, standardising each of the elements that make up the brand and expanding both the uses and the graphic pieces.
STEP 3. ROUNDING THE STAR
One of the features that changes the overall look of the logo is the rounding of both the outer and inner corners of the star to achieve a smoother, more flowing line.

LA SALLE WORLDWIDE · IDENTITY MANUAL
31
STEP 4. ADJUSTMENT OF “La”
A change was made to the proportions of the “L” so that it uses a standardised width, linked to the structure; the scale of the “a” was changed; some elements were adjusted to the structure as a “drop” of the vowel, and the spacing between the letters was adjusted to leave a little more gap between the two characters.
STEP 6. CREATION OF THE NEW LOGO
Overall, it can be seen that the star has gained balance with its rounded edges and that the spaces with the typography provide a little more air. Now the word La Salle is not created with a typeface family; instead, its letters are constituted from the harmonious shape and grid in relation to the star.
STEP 5. ADJUSTMENT OF “Salle”
The new grid made it possible to adjust each of the letters of the word “Salle”. Firstly, the "ll" was standardised and adjusted to the grid, as well as the spacing between the five letters, which meant that a little more gap was gained horizontally and a greater graphic balance could be seen throughout.

4. NEGATIVE LOGO FOR COLOURED BACKGROUNDS
This version of the brand is ideal for black and white publications, which will be reproduced on photocopying machines for clear legibility or in the production of rubber stamps as well as dry or pressure seals. The most recommended black and white version will be the 75% black (or dark grey) version, as it does not generate too much visual contrast.
The recommended version is this one. It can be used for all types of publications. However, if the publication is in colour, the recommended use is the institutional blue version. In any case, the decision will be up to the designer of the piece, as the composition and design may make it convenient to use the brand in a neutral colour. Therefore, this version may be used in 75% black ink.
In the development of pieces of all kinds it is common to find coloured backgrounds, gradients or photographs in which this is the version to be used. The designer of the pieces must ensure legibility by verifying that the contrast between the background and the white of the logo is sufficient for it to be seen. It is recommended to review the chromatic palette section.

In digital The uses and formats proposed for this brand allow the universe where it is applied to be broad and, above all, varied. In this sense there will be sizes and restrictions depending on the part being developed to ensure legibility and sharpness. For digital applications, two minimum sizes are recommended, a "real" one based on the thickness of the star line that is not less than 1 pixel wide, and a "recommended" minimum size that is much better displayed.

MINIMUM SCREEN SIZE
PROPOSED STRUCTURE FOR SOCIAL MEDIA
The actual minimum size for the horizontal version must not be less than 56 px wide by 21 px high, and for the vertical version it must not be less than 28 px wide by 30 px high. This size ensures that the width of the star outline is not less than 1 pixel wide.
Similarly, as proposed for the application of Signum Fidei in this type of social media such as Instagram, the minimum size is calculated based on the proportions of the designed piece. In this case, the horizontal version of the brand will be the width of a quarter of the width of the piece, and serves as a basis for calculating the size of the vertical version (same size as the star) which can also be used in this type of publication.
A minimum recommended size is proposed, which responds to visual conditions that allow the details of the logo to be shown.
Regarding the composition of the piece, it is recommended to use both the horizontal and vertical version towards the edges, although the horizontal version may also be positioned aligned to the centre of the publication.

MINIMUM SIZE FOR PRINTING
PRINTING AT DIFFERENT SCALES
The minimum size for printing is closely linked to the ink utilized, as some inks improve legibility at smaller sizes. In this case, three uses are recommended for both horizontal and vertical versions.
Regarding the minimum sizes for small-scale print layouts (letters, cards, newspaper or magazine advertising) or large-scale print layouts such as billboards and muppies, the size must be calculated according to the designed piece.
In terms of dimensions, the horizontal version shall not be less than 26 mm wide and 10 mm high. For the vertical version, the dimensions must not be less than 13 mm wide and 14 mm high.
In the example illustrating this, the space was divided into two equal parts and a grid of thirds was applied to each part. In this sense, the width of the logo should be one-sixth of the width and, as recommended for social media work, it is recommended to place the brand in its versions towards the edges of the piece.
Printing The aim is to ensure that the new brand is best appreciated irrespective of the printing technique, the medium on which it is printed and the scale of the printing. In any case, these sizes should be interpreted as suggestions and the final definition will depend on the designer's approach.

Correct and incorrect uses
In this section you will find some examples of application of the corporate brand, although the use and detailed description can be found on the other pages. These examples help to detect possible mistakes that can be made when implementing the new brand in the different design pieces to be produced. It is important to review very carefully the section on cobranding, as many ministries have implemented corporate brand into their own brand. Therefore, this manual addresses such use and makes further recommendations to improve the presence and the global image.
Use the vertical version of the Lasallian Educational Mission’s corporate brand on square or vertical pieces, placing the logo on the lower left side to compensate for the weight of the typography. Always keep in mind the minimum sizes and proportions. Use the membership logo for internal use in negative on photographs.
All negative versions of the brand can be used on gradient backgrounds or photographs; just check the contrast.
Brothers of the Christian Schools
Combine Signum Fidei with corporate brand on presentations, printed publications and other pieces. It should always be used in the same colour, either institutional blue, dark grey (75% black) or in negative on coloured backgrounds.
Negative cobranding applications can be used on backgrounds of colours related to the colour palette.

The corporate brand maintains its structure for use with the name of each educational ministry, now with a little more space for long names. It also allows local logos or blazons to complement the global brand and will allow external audiences to understand that such ministry is part of an international organisation. This version of the logo will allow new uses, especially when used in conjunction with local logos or blazons.

3. CUSTOMISATION IN THE LOCAL LANGUAGE
(Member of ) It is recommended to use this logo when addressing external audiences. Especially when using the local logo or blazon. It is the way to express, using the corporate brand, that the educational ministry is part of an international educational organisation. In the case of websites, this logo should link to the Institute's website in Rome: www.lasalle.org.
(We are) Taking into account the large amount of content that is generated internally for the community of each ministry, there will be this much closer version in the use of language to connote a sense of belonging and thus complement the local logos or blazons.
The new brand approach reinforces the "glocal" concept (global and local at the same time). That is why a template has been created so that each place in the world can use its local language. In the example it says "We are" in Polish and in the second "Member of" in Portuguese.

The norm in these cases is that the corporate brand is used with the membership version for external uses (Membre de / Parte de / Member of ) and that it is placed within the composition at the bottom, aligned to the left, right, centre or aligned to the centre with the blazon or logo of the ministry (see example of use on the following page).

In this example, a three-thirds grid is used to compose the elements (remember to review the section on recommendations for the use of photographs). In the third column, the brand elements are placed, in the upper part the blazon of the ministry is located, and the La Salle Corporate brand in the membership version in the lower right part of the general composition aligned in the centre with the blazon of the ministry.

Cobranding with the ministries Option A: Own blazon/ logo + La Salle Corporate Brand
50% An analysis was made of the most frequently used logos of the ministries and some of them were found to be horizontal elongated logos. These logos may incorporate the corporate brand in a membership version below their logo. The norm will be that it will be placed at the bottom aligned to the right, and that the proportional width does not exceed 50% of the typographic area of the logo. In addition, the security areas of the brand will be respected and will add to the overall logo of the ministry.

Another frequent use of the logos or blazons of the ministries is on photographs. For this, it is recommended to follow the recommendations of the brand of the ministry and the use of the La Salle brand in a negative version is permitted so that it can be seen on coloured backgrounds or photographs. In the latter case, the use of effects such as soft shadows is also permitted to ensure contrast between the background and the shape of the logo.

Cobranding with the ministries Option B: Corporate brand as the logo of the ministries
Brand integrated with the Ministries This manual proposes two options: option A, which in short entails using the historical local logo or blazon of each ministry and using the membership version (with the "Member of") to reinforce the link with the Institute, i.e., the network of ministries around the world; or option B, which consists of implementing the new structure shown below to update the brand of the ministries that already use it.
2. DISTINCTIVE SIGNS / 2.2. LASALLIAN EDUCATIONAL MISSION
School Name
School Name City
This version of the corporate brand consists of the logo with a line at the bottom that is cut by one of the vertices of the star, which serves as a divider between the brand and the complementary wording that can be presented in the first and second levels, always aligned to the right.
School Name 1. OPTION B - NAME OF THE MINISTRY
The first level can be used to indicate the name of the ministry, the name of the city, a country, a District or a Delegation. The second level can be used as a complement to locate the ministry in the corresponding city or country or for the internal sections of each ministry. Any wording below the line will be aligned to the right.
Option B is the most basic option: the first level includes the name of the ministry in Indivisa Text Sans - Bold font with a size of 3x the grid and in institutional blue (C100 M90 Y20 K30). It should be written in lower case with capital initials. It can be used all in one ink as in the first example, or it could be used in the grey version (75% black) or in black (100%) for print versions. In this application, the use of the star is permitted in any of the colours of the chromatic palette (see specific section). For this application, it must be taken into account that this will be the colour version of the brand of the ministry and that the rest of the elements (other than the star) will be in institutional blue (recommended). Exception: ministries whose name has between 2 and 7 letters, all letters may be capitalised. All wording below the line will be aligned to the right.
School Name City 2. OPTION B - NAME OF THE MINISTRY+CITY In some cases, in addition to the name of the ministry, it will be necessary to specify the town or city where the ministry is located. In this case, Indivisa Text Sans - Regular font should be used at the second level with a size of 3X of the grid and should be written in lower case with initial capital letter. In this case, the name of the country may be included together with the city. If this occurs, it should be separated by a comma and the name of the country should be in capital letters. Regarding the colour, it is recommended the use of the palette tones for the star and institutional blue for the other elements. All wording below the line will be aligned to the right.

5. OPTION B - NAME OF THE MINISTRY + SECTION
One of the uses that will be common is the application of the brand to represent the corporate presence of the Institute in a city or country. As an illustrative example, a country such as Mexico has two Districts, but if they wanted to appear as a joint presence, they could use the corporate brand: La [star] Salle - MEXICO.
Although Regions, Districts and Delegations have their respective versions using the Signum Fidei, they will also need to use the corporate brand in some cases. In this sense, it is allowed to adapt the use for cities and countries by keeping the name in all capital letters, and always in institutional blue and neutral colours (grey, black and negative).
For ministries that already use the corporate brand integrated with their local brand, they can use the second level to create applications for sections or internal groups.
The norm of use will be to use Indivisa Text Sans - Bold font with a size of 3X of the grid and it will be written in all capital letters. In terms of colour, only institutional blue and neutral colours (grey, black and negative) are permitted. All wording below the line will be aligned to the right.
It is not allowed to change the colour of the star in this application, so the same colour must always be used. All wording below the line will be aligned to the right.
In this sense, the second level is modified and Indivisa Text Sans Regular font should be used with a size of 2X of the grid. As this is the brand of a ministry, the colour of the star can be changed using the proposed chromatic palette. All wording below the line will be aligned to the right.

La Salle Foundation
A versatile and adaptable structure One of the great contributions of the Institute's corporate image strategy is the possibility of applying the brand to the development of new related logos*. Just as local brands can be created for each of the ministries, this type of logo can be generated, such as the one designed for La Salle Foundation which is the legal instrument of the Institute's Secretariat of Solidarity and Development. As can be seen, the elements are similar; it has lines separating the main brand from the complementary elements or frames similar to those of the new membership applications. In short, an adaptable branding system is proposed. In this case, a new typeface has been included that does not belong to the Indivisa Font, for which a single norm applies: only sans serif fonts may be used; the use of script, calligraphic or roman fonts (with serifs) is not permitted.
*The creation of a brand using this possibility will
have to be authorised by the Institute’s Service of Communication and Technology.
In this composition, the corporate brand has been used as the main element and is complemented with the word FOUNDATION in all capital letters, in Montserrat - Regular font (a geometric family with mostly round and square shapes), which provides a great deal of stability to the whole. The size of this font occupies a height of 5X the height of the grid and the kerning was modified to occupy the full width of the main logo.

Institutional 2.4.
Colour palette
One of the most characteristic features of the La Salle Institute is the multicultural nature of the entire community which makes it up and which is the living reflection of the Lasallian values. For this reason, the new strategy needs a chromatic palette rich in diverse and combinable tones so that each establishment can appropriate the colours they feel more identified with. Although some elements of the Institute's brands may seem too rigorous, the colours of the palette fulfil the mission of symbolising diversity, cultural mix and the joy that characterises every Lasallian around the world. The chromatic palette is divided into four parts: the first is the institutional palette, which has mainly institutional blue and grey (75% black). The second is the multicultural palette in which nine light colours and nine darker analogues are shown to complement the institutional palette. The third is a palette of recommended combinations, called global ethnic because it visually shows the possible mixtures. Here you will find combinations with the institutional blue, between colours of the same tone and between various colours. Finally, the energy palette is intended to illustrate the possibility of creating gradients by mixing the colours of the palette with each other.

With a careful balance between functionality and personality, the typographic system covers all the needs for institutional communication through a quality graphic voice, in which the Lasallian spirit converges in a context of contemporary use. The shapes of this typeface facilitate the creation of fantastic headlines that blend together. Reducing the line spacing and allowing letters to stick together is also part of the new branding strategy.
This is the font chosen to accompany the corporate brand of the Lasallian Educational Mission. Its look between one without serif and a calligraphic touch gives a lot of freshness to the straight lines of the La [star] Salle brand.
This is ideal for the text all in a row. It is the one chosen for the texts in this manual. Although the Indivisa Font family is much larger, using these three will be a good start.

Iconography 2.6.
2.6.1.
Based on the brand
Something that has characterised the Congregation of the Brothers since its foundation is the visual richness that has developed around the images not only of the Founder, but also of the saints and blessed, representations of Jesus, the Blessed Virgin, the Holy Spirit and other Christian icons that have been reproduced in various media. Following this same line and using the grid with which the Signum Fidei was redesigned and the La Salle corporate brand was retouched, some new icons were created as part of the new brand strategy. The most important thing about this proposal is the structure rather than the figures generated, as it can be used by any designer who needs to create new icons.
The grid makes it possible to locate the reference points at the crossing of the lines to draw all kinds of icons. This example shows a Brother depicted in the traditional habit. Note that it is not necessary to draw facial expressions as the hair and ears allow us to connote that it is a face.

Other images
Lasallian iconography is full of images representative of the life and work of the Holy Founder, as well as of some Brothers and other eminent men and women who have given their lives to the building up of what La Salle is today. The use of these images will remain at the discretion of the ministries and designers who use them. This page shows two examples of the application of the brands with the existing images; on the one hand, the illustration of Saint Miguel Febres Cordero has been turned with the institutional blue in order to match the tones of the corporate brand.
Colour vignettes should be handled in the same way as photographs. In these cases, the recommendation is to use the brands in negative so that they appear in white on the images. It is important to choose the correct location to ensure a good contrast between the background and the shapes of the brand, as well as to review the norms on minimum sizes so that they are well perceived. 3.1.1.
Social media
Communication has evolved on a global scale and every day hundreds or thousands of images related to the Lasallian Educational Mission are posted on social media. There are photos of students, teachers, buildings, classrooms and all kinds of events. It is important to recall that the new strategy proposed in this manual consists of identifying tools to unify the worldwide brand experience of the Institute without losing the uniqueness of each of the sites where there is a Lasallian presence. In this way we are committed to the "glocal", that is to say, global from the local.
1/3
For this task, some structures are suggested with the aim of building meaningful pieces in which brands can interact with each other, while developing a new brand universe.
2. INSTAGRAM: STORIES
1. PROFILE PICTURE In the vertical version, the corporate brand will serve as an icon for the main social media and although many already use the circle to frame profile images, the square should be used so that the platform where it is used is responsible for cutting the shape. The use of the colours of the chromatic palette is allowed to boost the presence. It can also be used for Districts or Regions.
1/3
Instagram stories are a very popular resource nowadays. For this, it is suggested a grid of diagonals that facilitates reading from top to bottom and from left to right. The key is to place basic elements in the marked circles. In this example the corporate brand is located on one of the diagonals and is one third of the total width.

3. INSTAGRAM: POSTS Applying a grid to compose Instagram or Facebook posts will make the images more eye-catching and orderly. However, it is difficult to standardise pieces of this type, which is why we propose the use of one of the simplest grids: the law of thirds. The secret of success with this composition is to place the key elements at the "golden points" (where the circles are marked). The example uses the application of belonging in the local language (in this case Portuguese) and the school logo updated with the new branding. Remember that Instagram posts should be square and the size can be between 1200 x 1200 px up to 1500 x 1500 px.
4. FACEBOOK: COVER IMAGE For Facebook, in addition to posts, it will be necessary to create cover pages, for which a duplicated grid of thirds is proposed to generate six columns. Note that where the circle is visible is a space that is covered by the profile picture. Therefore, avoid placing elements in this area. The standard size for this piece is 820 x 312 px.

IMAGES FOR THE HOMEPAGE To create a big impact with large images on the homepage requires the use of sharp pictures, bright colours and layers with percentages of transparency. The use of textures is rarely an added value. It only needed one image and three semi-transparent shapes with the colours of the picture, that's all. STEP 1. Move the layers to the left or right to compose the image. Remember that this is the background behind the main titles on the home page. STEP 2. Use the eyedropper tool to select a colour from the image. Repeat for each layer.

There are two main uses: one is for letterheads, i.e., the sheets used with the different brands and containing contact details. The other is the application of logos on business cards.
• It must bear the corresponding logo (Signum Fidei for Regions, Districts and Delegations, blazon/logo of the ministry or the application of the corporate brand in cobranding with the ministry).
For letterheads, there are versions for US Letter and DIN A4, among others.
• It should contain contact details: postal address, website, telephone number and email address for information.
It is important to clarify that this manual suggests this branding. However, each site, District, Region or Delegation can implement its own version of letterhead, and should only respect the following elements:
• The lower right-hand side shall always bear the corporate brand. In the case of Regions and Districts, it shall be without any addition; in the case of the ministries, it shall be used the version of the corporate brand with the "Part of" or "Member of" as appropriate in the local language where the ministry is located.

For the ministries, the cobranding of the Corporate Brand will be used with the name of the ministry or the blazon (logo) of the work.

The proposal is to use both sides of the cards. On one side should be the information about the individuals together with the Signum Fidei and/or the corporate brand, and on the other side should be the information about the educational ministry. Design decisions will be the responsibility of each ministry and according to the local brand architecture.

REUSABLE WATER BOTTLES Many students and teachers use this type of bottle because of their commitment to the environment. It would be an interesting element to promote brand ownership.
MASKS In the current pandemic, customised branded masks are a great idea. And they can be created in as many colours as you can, using the brand's colour palette as a base.
T-SHIRTS With the new strategy, new T-shirt designs for countries, Regions or cities can be generated.

Culture and concepts Photography is one of the resources most used by the international Lasallian community thanks to technology, since practically everyone has a camera with their mobile phone at all times. In this sense, it has been possible to record countless events in each of the ministries around the world in which regional dances, local customs, typical costumes and all those characteristics that are part of the culture of the members of each community are shown. This multiculturalism is very much present in this new brand manual. It is particularly reflected in the colour palette proposed as a result of the study of the images presented in these pages, which reflect the joy of being Lasallian, feelings and local customs. The aim of the culture and concept photographs is to record moments and events that form part of the daily life of the people of a community (their ethnography, their icons and in general, the way in which they live their Lasallian identity. In this category, apart from people, stained glass windows, statues, buildings, chapels, etc. are included.
COMPOSITION FOR PHOTOGRAPHY
In order to obtain powerful photographs, two things are necessary: first, choose the precise moment for the event to be recorded; second, compose the image well. For the latter, we propose a grid of thirds in which the secret lies in placing the most important elements of the composition on the lines or circles shown in the template.

Portraits Face photographs or portraits have the distinctive feature that they express the feelings of the people photographed. These images are just one example of portraits that in some cases show people in everyday situations, in class, playing sports, dancing at an event or interacting with their teachers and classmates. In these cases, it is relevant to compose the images so that they can be used square as they are likely to be used for Instagram posts.

STRUCTURE FOR PHOTOGRAPHING This is another of the structures that can be used. In this one, the golden dots are a little more separated from the centre and produce more visual tension, something that allows for more impressive photographs.

In no way is it intended to impose the application of a specific logo or blazon. In this example, it has been chosen Colegio Febres Cordero School in Guadalajara (Mexico). In the proposal a modification is presented: the possibility of using the vertical version inside the school logo; this way it is better appreciated and with a bigger size. It is important to remember that the ministries that use the cobranding with the corporate brand may change the colour of the star according to their chromatic tradition.

In this example, Colegio La Salle de Cartagena de Indias (Colombia) uses the school blazon on the chest at the level of the heart, and on the sleeves the corporate brand can be placed. All these examples are indicative but the use of corporate brand, cobranding, colours and locations within the garments will depend on the brand architecture of each educational ministry and the aesthetic tradition of the local culture in which it is immersed.

Annual campaigns and events Annual campaigns or events are a significant part of the school, university and community life of the entire Institute. It should be kept in mind that these events and campaigns are temporary and the production of graphic pieces such as posters, banners or publications for social media must include the corporate brand, either alone or in cobranding, and/or the Signum Fidei according to the brand architecture of each educational ministry and according to the nature of the communicative piece that is being created. It should be avoided excessive campaign or event logos in communication pieces, being mindful that none of them replace the blazons, local logos, corporate brand and/or the Signum Fidei as the main logos. A proposal for some annual campaigns is to use the corporate brand and use the slogans below the logo as shown on the next page, using the common rules and colours of the colour palette.

To Dream is our way forward! Annual campaigns can be reduced to an annual slogan. This would be represented by the corporate brand and the slogan underneath in the centre of the slogan. The structures set out in point 2.2. of this manual must be applied and the corporate colours must be used within the text below. The corporate brand will always be in institutional blue.
