Explore Playa del Carmen + Things to know about where to go Situated in the heart of the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen is the region’s top destination for shopping, dining, and nightlife. It’s known for palm-lined beaches, coral reefs and scuba diving. After a relaxing day at the beach, head into town and take a stroll along the pedestrian Fifth Avenue strip, locally known as Quinta Avenida. By day it’s packed with visitors browsing the local shops and boutiques; by night, musicians entertain patrons in the many dining establishments. Hungry vacationers can indulge in everything from tasty street tacos to five-star dining options serving up their own unique take on traditional Mayan cuisine. Playa del Carmen’s beautiful beaches are filled with travelers in quest of waters clear enough to spot the diverse sea life below. The reefs are exquisite, offering diving and snorkeling opportunities that help sustain its reputation as one of the top diving destinations in the world.

What to do while your there

Day trip to Cozumel Ferry service connects the Caribbean island of Cozumel with Playa del Carmen so you can easily enjoy a day trip out to the island for some scuba diving or snorkeling. You can also arrange day trips to visit ancient archeological sites, ecological parks, and cenotes.

Go to the beach The beaches in Playa del Carmen are the highlight of most vacationers’ time in the area and make for a delightful way to spend an afternoon or two. Spend your time sunbathing, paddle boarding, kayaking, snorkeling or just simply enjoying the beautiful views.

La Quinta Playa del Carmen’s main street, La Quinta Avenida, runs parallel to the shore and serves as a pedestrian walkway for travelers and locals. The avenue is lined with an assortment of restaurants, hotels and bars, making it one of the best nightlife spots in the city.

Mayan Xtreme This tour combines the perfect amount of nature and adventure.

The half day tour starts you off flying 60 feet above the canopy of the Mayan Jungle on the areas longest zip line. From there, you rappel down into the jungle to explore the crystal clear fresh waters of the ‘Underground River’ cenote. Finish the day enjoying traditional Mexican food and sharing your great adventure with the group.

Chichen Itza Take a day tour to the most famous archaeological ruin in Mexico and one of the 7 wonders of the world. At Chichen Itza, your guide takes you on an hour and a half tour covering all the highlights of the ruins. After your tour, take a refreshing swim in a nearby cenote or just relax and enjoy the calming water and captivating views.

Turtles & Cenotes Tour Want to see a sea turtle? This is your chance. Spend the day exploring cenotes and swimming with turtles in the nearby sea turtle sanctuary where you are guaranteed to witness turtles of all sizes, endless tropical fish and if you are lucky a manta ray or two.

Deep Sea Fishing Grab your fishing rod and let’s go deep sea fishing along the coast of the Riviera Maya. The flowing currents in the channel between the coast of the Peninsula Yucatan and the Island of Cozumel create a perfect habitat for all kinds of game fish including Barracuda, Wahoo, Kingfish, Bonito and Tuna. The high season for bill fish is during the spring and summer when you can prepare for Sailfish, Blue and White Marlin and Mahi Mahi.
