BLOOMING MEDIATORS Lara Luna 300564980 INFP-T ROTATE - OVERLAP - INTERSECT

INFP-T or ‘Turbulent Mediators are creative and insightful, they seem quiet but have ‘vibrant, passionate inner lives’. Mediators are known for their sensitivity and compassion, and they have strong emotional responses to pretty much everything.

For this project a whare tirohanga to me is a viewing platform.

The height and scale is to create a better view of the city. Mediators are usually uplifting others, and sometimes they need to lift themselves up too.

There are two views from atop the whare tirohanga - a view of the city because Mediators tend to fantasize, it is important for them to set their sights back on what is important; and a view of nature, to remind them of what they care for.

Contour map

The entrance is up a spiral ramp. At the top, the path comes to a fork. Going up will take you to the view at the centre of the glowing water lily. Going down will take you to a platform. There are 6 in total each connected by a ladder. The exit is at the bottom after the slide.

The spiral ramp represents a barrier, because introvrts aren’t really open. Although the building is mostly glass, there is still something blocking your view of the inside. The building is glass because mediators have a commitment to authenticity.

The building resembles a flower. A water lily is atop the tower. Hardy water lillies are strong and some can survive the winter with no external help. It is a great symbol of Mediators and their ability to bounce back. It is important that the building is beautiful, because Mediators are idealists. It will also help to inspire their creativity.

Plan
“Like flowers in
the spring, Mediators’ creativity and idealism can
bloom even after
the
darkest
of seasons.”

Site location: The building is 2 minutes up the Mount Victoria Lookout Walkway, just past Charles Plimmer Park.

Iterations Applications Final Tirohanga

Mediators don’t like being the centre of attention, but they also don’t like being invisible. Because of this, my whare tirohanga serves another purpose as a view from the city. The tower glows in the dark and can be seen from afar.

The significant part is that the view isn’t on the mediator (so they don’t feel uncomfortable), but on something that represents them.
