Provided by the Artist Contemporary artist Rex Hausmann is a San An tonian, who started his art education at UTSA graduating from Savan nah College of Art and Design on scholarship with a BFA in painting (2006) and an MFA in painting (2016). His artist philoso phy remains simple “Grow Where You Are Planted” displayed behind Phebe, the bougainvillea, on the front his family buildings at The Hausmann Mill works: A Creative Com munity in downtown San Antonio. Rex has shown and lectured nationally and internationally, appearing in many speaking functions including TEDx San An tonio at Trinity University , McNay Museum of Art, The San Antonio Museum of Art, and The University of Texas at San Antonio as well as The Spencer Mu seum of Art. He has shown work at The Smithsonian in Washington DC, The Insti tute of Texan Cultures, Nei man Marcus, The Lawrence Art Center and The Cloister at Sea Island Resort. He has spoken on National Public Radio many times across the United States. His home base remains in San Antonio, Texas at The Hausmann Millworks: A Creative Community where he gardens, teaches and paints daily and enjoys a cigar with friends every so often.Artist statement “For me, painting is the purest form of problem solving. I communicate through drawing and paint ing and sometimes words which I like to have fun with. Art and life become one in my images, and I have two overriding inter ests: painting and people. My goal is to relate with people, their daily lives, their actions and their sto ries as they are. I am most inspired by Mark Twain, Ernest Hemingway, Akira Kuro sawa, George Melies, An toni Gaudi, Tom Sachs, and Daniel Buren. These liter ary, cinematic and visual artists are all storytellers. This is what interests me. In my world, they would be eating donuts and sipping coffee on a New York fire escape or at Dollar-HotDog night at a San Antonio Missions baseball game. The subjects of discus sion would be their favorite books, films, and museum pieces. These conversations are the basis of my art—the synthesis of art and life. My art is colorful, accessible and autobiographical. I try to speak not only the lan guage of the art world but to everyday people as well. Many artists may ask them selves, "What is my take on the world?". For me, the better question is, "What is my place in the world, and how does my work make this world a better place?". I believe that art is as simple or complex as the living of life itself. Like life, art should not be and is not perfect. The paint must at times lose control, drip and spill. In 1973 the Air Force Com mand moved the boxing pro gram to Kelly Air Force Base. Over the next three decades, Alaniz coached hundreds of boxers serving in the Air Force and accepted numerous inter national coaching assignments. In 1977 alone, Alaniz coached and prepared the USA Na tional Boxing Team against the USSR [Russian] Boxing Team in Shreveport, Louisiana. He then coached and prepared the Armed Forces Boxing Team to compete in the “Conseil In ternational Du Sports Militaire (CISM)” Championship, this time in Cairo, Egypt. Coach Alaniz also hosted five Armed Forces Championships tournaments at Kelly AFB and coached numerous teams’ to also participate in the San An tonio Annual Golden Gloves competition during the same period. For the next three years (1981 -1983) Coach Alaniz traveled extensively with nu merous Boxing teams to clinics, festivals, and CISM champion ships stateside and worldwide. While serving as the Air Force Boxing coach at Kelly Air Force base, Coach Alaniz was also assigned to plan and con duct numerous Boxing Camps/ Clinics in the United States and abroad. He trained boxers in Germany, Cuba, Bolivia, the Philippines, and Thailand. Alaniz was honored to serve as an Assistant Boxing Coach in the 1984 and 1992 Olympic Summer Games. Alaniz was also given the responsibility as the Administrative Assistant to the President of the Interna tional Boxing Federation dur ing the Olympic Games. As a coach, Coach Alaniz’s fighters captured a total of 20 Olympic Boxing medals, including 11 Gold, 3 Silver, and 6 Bronze. In 1998 Alaniz was selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee as their National Boxing Coach of theCoachYear.

By Ricardo Romo; with Dr. Mario Longoria Osmar Alaniz arrives early every day at the Lackland Air Force gym, a routine he has followed for the past fortynine years. He may well be the only Latino coach in any sport who has participated in three Olympic games. A resident of San Antonio for the past half-century Alaniz arrived in 1973 to assume the position of Assistant Boxing Coach for the Kelly Air Force Boxing Team. Considered one of America’s best young boxing coaches, Alaniz’s rise to international competition began in the mid1960s when he served as an Olympian boxing Trainer and Assistant in preparation for the 1968 Olympics Summer Games.Hisfirst Olympic experience in 1968 was both rewarding and educational. The Olympic Boxing team fared well in the competition capturing 2 Gold; 1 Silver; and 4 Bronze Medals. The names of the medalists included Ronald Harris (Gold), George Foreman (Gold), and Albert Robinson (Silver). Af ter coaching in the Olympics in Mexico City, Alaniz served his country in Vietnam earning a Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Shortly after serving in Vietnam, he was assigned to Hamilton AFB, “Home of Air Force Boxing.”

Alaniz has been rec ognized for his achievement and dedication to Amateur Boxing by the following U.S. and International Boxing orga nizations: U.S Air Force InterService Sports Council, The International Military Sports Council, the Olympic Solidarity Boxing Program, The Olympic Committee from Argentina, The Mayor of the City of Los Angeles, The Federacion Ecu atoriana De Boxeo, El Minis terio De Cultura Juventud Y Deporte – Costa Rica, The International Amateur Boxing Association, and the Mayor of the City of San Antonio for his participation in the 1992 Olym pic Summer Games. Coach Al aniz estimates that has trained over 3,000 boxers in the years 1966 –Coach2004.Alaniz has been a teacher, mentor, and coun selor. He trained America’s best amateurs boxers, sculpting their boxing skills and shaping their athletic lives and careers. Alaniz attributes his coaching success to his personal values of preaching a love of the sport, dedication, physical /mental conditioning and an unshakable belief in oneself to both suc cessfully compete in the sport; and when out of the ring, to exude respect and character in their relationships.

Están invitando al público y Aficionados para que acudan a ver las espectaculares acciones entre los equipos participantes. Maceteros de Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Águilas USA y México representado por Vaqueros de Austin, todo esto de acuerdo al señor Sánchez.
