Why the Senior Expo Matters:
Meet Mary. She’s lived in Northwest Indiana her whole life, raising her family, building memories, and now enjoying her golden years. But like so many seniors, Mary has faced new challenges navigating healthcare, staying active, and finding ways to connect with her community. Her daughter, Sara, has also stepped into a new role as a caregiver, balancing her own life while making sure her mom stays healthy and supported. It’s a journey they never expected, filled with questions and uncertainty.
That’s why the Expo for Older Adults & Caregivers was created for people like Mary and Sara, and for countless others who need guidance, support, and connection. At our Expo, seniors and caregivers come together to explore vital resources, learn about new services, and discover that they are not alone in facing these challenges. With booths dedicated to health, wellness, social services, and more, the Expo is designed to empower attendees with the information and tools they need to lead fuller, more secure lives.
But this event is more than just information it's about strengthening the very fabric of our community. When seniors like Mary feel confident and cared for, and when caregivers like Sara have the support they need, our entire region becomes stronger, healthier, and more connected. The bonds we build at the Expo ripple out, creating a more vibrant future for all.
EMPOWERING SENIORS & CAREGIVERS, STRENGTHENING OUR COMMUNITY.

The Activity Center for Older Adults was started over 40 years ago by the late Sandy Friedman and late Nancy Terzino. By securing a federal grant they were able to convert the old fire station located at 910 State Street into the Activity Center for Older Adults. The ACOA was managed by the Swanson Center Board of Directors until April 1, 2022, when the La Porte Park and Recreation Department took the reins of operation through a grant received from the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte.
Our Activity Center for Older Adults is a place where citizens 55+ (as individuals or in groups) can gather for educational and recreational activities or simply come and socialize. One of our goals with the ACOA is to connect members to vital community services that will help them stay healthy and independent.
We would like to thank the Healthcare Foundation of La Porte for the grant received to continue the operation of the Activity Center for Older Adults. The facility is now located at 901 Lincolnway, La Porte, Indiana.
