Chair
Happy New Year! I wanted to share a little bit about me and where my interest grew for serving the community of La Porte.
back to the community that we have worked in, lived in and many of our employees call home for over the past two decades.
My father, Jeff Bearden, started Bayou City Industrial Contractors LTD. in 1995. La Porte became the home to BCI in 1997 and we have been here ever since. I began working for the family business during the summers at 13 years old, watching and learning around our shop. This continued through high school and college where I had experiences working at our job sites in the area. I graduated from Texas A&M in 2013 and I started working for the family business full time. I have the pleasure to not only work in La Porte , but I also called La Porte home for 6 years.
When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife, Amanda, and our two children, Brooks (3) and Isabella (1). I also enjoy spending time hunting, golfing, and traveling.
Serving our community runs in our family as my father was and still is a huge advocate for giving back to the community that has done so much for us. He was active in the La Porte Chamber for 20 years and was previously Director and recognized as volunteer of the year. My younger brother Brandon has served a term as Director for the chamber. I have served on the Workforce Development Committee, Sylvan Beach Festival Committee and served 2, three-year terms as a director before becoming the Chairman of the Board this year. We all take pride in giving

Moving forward I am excited about taking on the role as Chair of the Board. I want to continue building on your support of the community while being a voice for the industry that gives so much opportunity in the area. I want to thank Jeff, Megan and the rest of the chamber staff and members for supporting me in the year to come. Amanda DeAlejandro It is our pleasure to introduce one of our executive directors, Amanda, or Mandy as she goes by most of the time. She comes to us representing Community First ER located in Deer Park. Her bright and bubbly personality is a magnet to anyone in the vicinity and oftentimes you’ll hear her before you see her, and we love that about her! What she loves most about her position is being able to connect with everyone in the community. When she’s not running around town, you might find her playing volleyball or golf, but her favorite way to unwind is spending time with her family. She will be celebrating her birthday on January 11th, so be sure to wish her a Happy Birthday when you see her out and about. Thanks for being a part of our team, Mandy!
Dausha Moore-Wright We are pleased to have Dausha volunteer to serve on our board again this year! As a realtor with Fathom Realty, she gets along with everyone and enjoys helping people however she can. Dausha is what we like to call a “serial volunteer”, and we are so grateful for that! She can consistently be counted on to help when we need it most, and also serves for the Deer Park Education Foundation, Strawberry Festival, Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo, and Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo! She manages with seemingly limitless energy and a solid support system including her wife, Courtney, who often comes to help. Thank you for your servant heart, Dausha!

Annual Awards Banquet Honorees Announced The La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce wishes to formally announce our outstanding businesses and volunteer of 2023; Brenda Thompson will be recognized as our Volunteer of the Year; Coastal Ice & Water will be recognized as Business of the Year; La Porte First Church will be recognized as Non-profit of the Year; and, Air Products will be recognized as Industry of the Year. Each of these recipients have gone above and beyond not only in their business affairs, but also within the community. We invite you to attend the Annual Awards Banquet where each of our outstanding partners will be honored for their service before an audience of their peers and fellow chamber members. Immediately preceding the ceremony, join us for an hour of mingling and selections from the bar to celebrate the occasion. The Annual Banquet which will take place on Janu-

Chamber Presented with Check for Student Scholarships La Porte citizen, Glynda Oliver, presented the president of the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce, Jeff Martin, with a check for $1,000 to benefit La Porte ISD student scholarships. Oliver has raised the funds by accepting monetary donations for walking sticks she has produced with the support of her family and friends. “We are extremely humbled and blessed to have such kind-hearted individuals in our community,” states Martin. “It’s what makes La Porte such a great community.” Martin went on to point out the Student Scholarship Fund, maintained primarily by chamber events and fundraisers along with private donations, is dispersed to local students throughout the year as a direct benefit of the kindness of individuals and business entities in our area. Oliver has hand-crafted over 300 walking sticks which she has placed in strategic locations

across the city which can be purchased for a suggested cash donation of $30. Each of the walking sticks has been made from the limbs of Crepe Myrtle trees grown only in La Porte and takes approximately six hours to complete. “I want everyone to know about the walking sticks so that if they want to donate to student scholarships too, they can. Plus, you get to take a piece of La Porte home with you!” she explains. “Then, when I’m on the operating table and a former student who received a scholarship saves my life, it’s come full circle!” Currently, you can find the walking sticks at the chamber of commerce, Ed’s Bistro, RE/MAX Excellence, and And Sew It Began Quilt Shop. Shell Federal Credit Union Announces Opening of Applications for the 2024 John Garrison Scholarships Shell Federal Credit Union (Shell FCU) is pleased to announce the opening of applications for the prestigious 2024 John Garrison Scholarships. These scholarships are a testament to Shell FCU’s commitment to supporting the education of deserving students in our community. In the coming year, we will be awarding a total of 20 scholarships: 15 valued at $2,500 each for two or four-year college or university programs and 5 valued at $2,500 each for vocational or technical programs. The growth and expansion of Shell FCU over the past two decades have resulted in an increased demand for educational assistance. In recognition of this, Shell FCU is proud to allocate a total of $50,000 in scholarships to 2024 High School Seniors.
