LETTER FROM THE
Chair
It’s a new season, and I wish all of you the best as we walk this new path united in our purpose. I am expressing how appreciative I am for the opportunity to serve as Chairperson of the La Porte Bayshore Chamber of Commerce, which is an outstanding organization because of the guidance of our board members and active members’ participation.
I started working at Beacon Federal Credit Union in 2008 as a part-time teller who transitioned to a full-time Business Development Representative and now the VP of Marketing and Business Development. The credit union is like the chamber; our philosophy is about “people helping people”.
My goal as a chairperson is to continue to build on what our past predecessors have built. I look forward to hearing from and getting to know many of you this year. The La Porte Bayshore Chamber of Commerce exists because of companies/businesses like yours that invest in the community it provides a service. Our chamber is a dynamic and diverse organization that leads the promotion of business, economic development, and support of the La Porte-Bayshore commu-
nity. Participate and get plugged into the many outstanding committees that make this chamber a success. Our goal is to gather more and allow your companies/businesses to network and reap the benefits of your investment. The Chamber of Commerce turns 100 years! That is something worth celebrating! We will be celebrating all year our centennial year milestone. So wear your party hats and attend as many events as possible to honor the La Porte Bayshore Chamber of Commerce’s centennial year.
Our chamber Team is dedicated to being part of the community and supporting each of our businesses/companies. They have a heart of service and genuinely care for our La Porte Bayshore community. Thank you for making our chamber one of the greatest in the area!
I wish your business/company a successful year. We can accomplish anything together.
Respectfully and blessings,

The Crow’s Nest Art Gallery
From Nautical to Native American, whatever your taste in art, you’ll find it at the Crow’s Nest Art Gallery in La Porte. In addition to outstanding Native American items, you’ll find paintings, sculpture, pottery and woodwork by some of Texas’ top artists. Our cases are filled with Navajo, Zuni, Santo Domingo (Tewa) and Hopi silver jewelry in contemporary and traditional styles including old pawn; all handmade!
Often called “the best kept secret in La Porte”, collectors of Native American jewelry laud their superb selection of authentic, unique Indian jewelry (even over New Mexico and Arizona!), and prove it by buying all their jewelry from the Crow’s Nest; even those who live in “Indian Country”. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, they can create it for you.
In business since 1970, their top quality art, affordable prices and friendly, personal service make the Crow’s Nest a place you’ll want to visit often!

67th Sylvan Beach Festival Draws Record Numbers
On April 29th, the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of La Porte and Harris County Precinct 2, held the 67th Annual Sylvan Beach Festival. Even with heavy rainfall and strong winds the night before the main event, crowds almost 25,000 strong flocked to Sylvan Beach Park.
Throughout the day families were treated to quality family fun complete with about a dozen inflatable bounce houses, obstacle courses, and games, in addition to live reptile shows by Gator Country, tactile vehicle displays (did you visit the military tank?!), gaming trailer and so much more. For a small additonal cost, the carnival rides and midway games are always a crowd favorite!
As the cold and cloudy morning gave way to afternoon sun and pleasant temperatures a steadily growing audience seemed to thoroughly enjoy music performances by local talent Big Jordan Band, followed by Larry Fleet, Stoney LaRue, and Wade Bowen to end the night on a high note.
The annual return of the historic Sylvan Beach Festival signals a measurable jump in La Porte’s economy. Travelers from across the state book up our hotels and vacation homes, spend their hard-earned dimes in our restaurants, and discover all that our area has to offer.
The chamber is humbled by the eager support from a record number of sponsors this year, which in turn enabled a record-breaking amount of $20,000 awarded for student
scholarships and student-run organizations within the district. Did we mention it was a record-breaking year? We welcomed more participation across the board, more vendors, more entertainment, and overall more festival!
The chamber wishes to thank all who participated in one form or another - our invested sponsors, planning committee, dedicated volunteers, food and artisan vendors, local police and EMS departments, performers, clean up crew - and so many more! With your commitment the 67th Sylvan Beach Festival was another resounding success.
See you next year on April 27, 2024 for the 68th Sylvan Beach Festival! For festival updates, news, photos, and more, visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook. com/sylvanbeachfestival

Member News: We Equip Our Customers & Communities to Build a Brighter Future
On April 13th, Herc Pasadena received a call from President of La Porte–Bayshore Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Jeff Martin.
This was the 67th year of the Sylvan Beach Festival and they were having a challenge in obtaining equipment. For some years in the past this was never a problem, however on this day it was a growing concern. Mr. Jeff contacted The City of La Porte to which Herc Rentals provides equipment for all their festivals and they recommended us. This event encompasses 60 partners from our community not to mention the over 400 + members to whom represent the industry. It did not take much time for our Management team to approve support for our community event in La Porte! Herc Rentals partnered with La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce, the City of La Porte, and Harris County to help create a beautiful and safe event. We look forward to being a member of the over 100 Year Chamber of Commerce in La Porte (established in 1923) and our community! In doing so, we thank management and team members for all the hard work to make this event a success!
We’re in this together, Team Herc!

Member News: Texas Stress, Inc. Awarded Best In Class
Texas Stress is honored to have been awarded Best in Class at the 36th Annual Safety Excellence Awards presented by the Houston Business Roundtable and Houston Area Safety Council.
Best in Class recognition signifies that most elements of our company’s program, both field and documentation, exceed the minimum requirements including exceptional best practices. This award is only given to the top-performing company in each category. A unique feature of this award process is the requirement that the “Best in Category” Contractors come to a “Best Practices” seminar and present the best practices identified by the evaluation teams as the reason for their excellent achievement. All other companies are encouraged to take these ideas back to their own companies to improve their own performance. Through the sharing of best practices, the entire industry improves its
safety performance. There is an attitude that is prevalent among the owners and contractors that outstanding safety is not proprietary and must be shared with others. We are looking forward to the opportunity to not only share our best practices but to learn about our opportunities for improvement from other amazing companies.
We were grateful to be nominated by Kuraray America, Inc. for the second year to participate in the two-step process where the initial evaluation determined contractors eligible for the final field evaluation that is conducted by owner clients, mentors, and an audit team.
Thank you to all our employees for your hard work and dedication to safety first, last, always!

Lemonade Day La Porte Heralds New Generation of Entrepreneurs
The second annual Lemonade Day La Porte, sponsored by Amegy Bank, was hosted on May 20th at the La Porte High School Bulldog Stadium parking lot, and it did not dissappoint!
Almost 100 La Porte ISD students ranging from 4th grade to 6th grade operated their very own lemonade stands open to the public. Over 38 stands were set up with various kinds of lemonade, snacks, and even handmade arts and crafts goods. We saw raffles, giveaways, professional marketing techniques, sign spinning, mascots, and more from these kids - their creativity was impressive!
On a national level, Lemonade Day is a fun, experiential program that teaches youth how to start, own and operate
their very own business - a lemonade stand. Each year, in participating cities, youth have the opportunity to experience entrepreneurship.
Students are paired with a local business mentor who works with our youth developing business plans, goals, marketing strategies, and essentially fostering a hunger for entrepreneurship. Each team of students gets to keep the money they earn while being encouraged to save or invest some and donate some to a local charity of their choosing.
We are excited to partner with La Porte ISD and Lemonade Day to bring this wonderful, hands-on experience to our future business owners!
