To honour these beautiful creatures, raise awareness for their decreasing numbers, and celebrate the Christmas season with ou community, Lane Cove Council is hosting a huge number of citizen science and educational events surrounding the Christmas Beetle - read on for more information! We’re also excited to host a big Christmas Launch on Friday 6 December, and support many more magical moments. Keep an eye out for the 12 Beetles of Christmas sculptures as you shop locally this month!

12 BEETLES OF CHRISTMAS

Get ready for beetle mania in Lane Cove! Twelve dazzling sculptures are hitting the streets, bringing festive spirit and spreading the word on the decline of our beloved Christmas Beetles. These stunning creations by talented artists and Council teams are out and about, adding sparkle to the season while highlighting the urgent need to protect these iconic beetles. Keep an eye out, beetle beauty awaits!

With over 300,000 species of beetles worldwide, the Christmas beetle is one of the prettiest. Come along to learn about these colourful beetles and other interesting Australian ones. We’ll read a storybook, go on a bushwalk and create a craft beetle of our own. Ages 2 - 5.

Join us on this special bug hunt looking for shiny Christmas Beetles! Insect experts will be on hand to show a variety of beetles, stick insects and spiders before leading us on our very own mini beast hunt. Any Christmas Beetle findings will support the Christmas Beetle Count, a valuable Citizen Science project. Ages 5 +
