LQPresident Message

This year’s Landscape Queensland Construction Excellence Awards Program marked a very special milestone the 40th Anniversary of celebrating excellence in landscaping across our great state. It was wonderful to see so many of you at the Gala dinner celebrating, reflecting on our history, and coming together to showcase the industry we’re so proud of.

Our journey began in the early 1980s, with just eight dedicated contractors, each driven by a vision to elevate Queensland’s landscaping standards. Today, that vision has grown into a thriving community committed to excellence, education, environmental care, and innovation throughout the state.

The Awards program not only recognises the hard work, expertise, and creativity of our teams, but it also provides an opportunity to inspire the next generation of landscapers. Together, we’re building a legacy that will continue to shape Queensland’s landscapes for many to enjoy for years to come.

To everyone involved in this program our participants, sponsor partners and judges - your support and dedication are the pillars of our success. A special acknowledgment to Centenary Landscaping Supplies, our principal partner, for their steadfast support in making this program possible

I’d also like to thank my fellow LQ Board members and team for their commitment to the Association throughout the year and extend special recognition to all past board members and industry pioneers who have dedicated their time and energy over the years. Your contributions have built the foundation upon which we stand today, and your vision has helped us reach this incredible milestone.

To my fellow LQ members, as we celebrate all we’ve achieved over the years, I hope you feel a sense of pride in the legacy we’re building together. You are the heart of this profession, shaping today’s landscapes and inspiring the future.

40 Years of Industry Excellence

Marking an extraordinary milestone, the 40th Landscape Queensland Construction Excellence Awards Gala brought together the pinnacle of the state’s landscaping industry for an evening of prestige, camaraderie, and celebration. On Saturday, 9 November 2024, the historic Brisbane City Hall played host to what has been hailed as the most spectacular and memorable Awards event in Landscape Queensland’s history, with nearly 550 attendees filling the room with cheer, warmth, and a shared sense of accomplishment.

The event celebrated not only the culmination of the 2024 Awards program but also the rich legacy of an industry that has consistently transformed Queensland’s outdoor spaces. Hosted by the charismatic celebrity MC and long-time supporter of the industry, Terry Hansen, the evening unfolded with laughter, connection, and a deep appreciation for the projects, people, and passion that define this vibrant sector.

A particularly poignant moment of the night was the induction of Lindsay Pratt into the Landscape Queensland Hall of Fame. Recognised for his decades-long contributions to the industry, including his transformative leadership as President in the 1990s, Lindsay’s legacy continues to inspire the landscaping community, with his family also playing an active role in advancing the profession.

This year’s competition set an unparalleled standard, with entries demonstrating remarkable creativity, innovation, and craftsmanship. Finalists and winners were recognised across a range of categories, with the crowning achievements being the Residential and Commercial Construction of the Year Awards. These projects exemplified excellence, setting benchmarks for the industry and inspiring the next generation of landscapers.

The Gala Dinner was not just about accolades—it was a celebration of the community spirit that underpins the industry. The atmosphere was electric, filled with camaraderie and connection, as members of the Landscape Queensland family came together to honour their peers’ achievements. Attendees enjoyed a sumptuous dinner and the melodic tunes of Brisbane band Imessa, who kept the energy high with live music that perfectly complemented the celebratory vibes of the night.

This year was another fantastic one for the Training Awards, showcasing the outstanding talent of Queensland’s future landscapers. The event celebrated their dedication and highlighted the vital role they play in the industry’s continued success.

The celebration was also an opportunity to give back. Thanks to the generosity of those who attended, a $3,000 donation was made to This Is A Conversation Starter, the inspiring TradeMutt initiative supporting mental health in the trade industries. This act of kindness highlighted the collective strength and compassion of the industry.

The 2024 Landscape Queensland Gala Awards have set a new benchmark, combining prestige, heartfelt connection, and joyous celebration in a way that truly honoured the industry’s accomplishments. As attendees reflected on the night, the overwhelming sentiment was one of pride—not just for the projects recognised but for the shared journey of an industry that has thrived for 40 remarkable years.

Here’s to four decades of excellence—and to an even brighter future for Landscape Queensland!

Congratulations! Lindsay Pratt

With nearly five decades of dedication to the landscaping industry, Lindsay Pratt has been an integral part of the Landscape Queensland community. As founder of Harmony Landscapes in the 1970s and a longstanding member of the Association since the 1980s, Lindsay has left an indelible mark on the industry.

Lindsay’s leadership as a QALI/Landscape Queensland Board member for over a decade, including two years as President, saw him spearhead initiatives that elevated the Association’s visibility and professionalism. Most notably, his landmark decision to engage the first professional marketing team for the Awards program set the standard for what has since developed into LQ's current in-house expertise in delivering this prestigious industry event.

A true industry pioneer and multiple award winner, Lindsay’s legacy of professionalism, hard work, and commitment to the landscaping community earns him the honour of being inducted into the Landscape Queensland Hall of Fame during this special 40th-anniversary celebration.

Congratulations, Lindsay thank you for your extraordinary contributions to our industry!
