COHA Connections: The Ornamental Sector’s One-Stop Research Website

“With the objective of being the sector’s one-stop-shop for all matters related to ornamental research, COHA Connections also features industry-related news features as well as an industry research database.”

Under the administration of the Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Alliance (COHA), beginning in 2008, Canada’s ornamental horticulture sector has significantly improved their access to federal government research funding through their participation in Agriculture and AgriFood Canada’s (AAFC) AgriScience Program: Cluster component. The AgriScience Program is under the Canadian Agricultural Partnership, federal, provincial, territorial initiative.

The most recent cluster (2018-23), entitled Accelerating Green Plant Innovation for Environmental and Economic Benefit, includes a total of 10 very diverse research initiatives. As well as meeting current federal government priorities, each of the research projects supports current industry concerns which are established through industry priority-setting sessions conducted at the start of the research application process.

Ongoing research results are made available to the sector through COHA’s research website, COHA-ACHO Connections. Profile articles, highlighting the research work of each research project, are posted regularly. The summer 2021 profile article “Understanding how temperatures within plants affect their growth,” a research initiative of Dr. Peter Kevan (University of Guelph) is now available, along with numerous links to other related journal articles and more.

With the objective of being the sector’s one-stop-shop for all matters related to ornamental research, COHA Connections also features industry-related news features as well as an industry research database.

Research updates, presented by COHA’s research team as part of their annual webinar meeting, are posted to the website each year, and final reports are made available at the end of each five-year project cycle.

The Canadian Ornamental Horticulture Alliance (COHA) is an alliance of the three primary organizations representing Canada’s ornamental horticulture value chain, including the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association (CNLA), Flowers Canada Growers (FCG) and Quebec Vert.
