In the Japanese ruling era, Lou Yuan together with Benqiao Lin Family Garden as well as Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden were listed as the three main gardens in Taiwan. It gradually declined through the evolution of times, with only a part of the remnant left behind and no more glamour in the present days. In 2009, Frameless Landscape Architecture was in charge of the design, and designer Tzu-Chien Hsieh stated, “The core value for the landscape design of New One Taipei is – Paying Tribute to Lou Yuan”. With the design core focused on “Mondrian” of the west, the different sizes of spaces are created through geometric shapes and line partitions, accentuating the rational proportions. Moreover, Japanese garden spirit is added to create the diversified appearances of a different view with each step, different windows and times using spontaneous, elegant and natural curves.
Design Key Points 1. Fusion between western geometric architectural language with eastern free and rational garden elements, demonstrating the new Japanese and western glamour of Lou Yuan. 2. Fusion between eastern and western spontaneous ideas together with elegant and natural curves, creating the diversified appearances of a different view with each step, different windows and times. 3. Different sizes of totems are partitioned using Mondrian geometry, and different materials, colors as well as proportions are mixed and matched, stacking the different spatial layers and variations.
