Heavily dependent on regular air charters from Europe, the coast has traditionally been at the mercy of decisions made far away. This is slowly changing due to growing local affluence as more and more Kenyans take vacations at the coast, together with an increase in independent travellers, especially at the top and bottom ends of the market.
