Our learning is deep, our exam results a wonderful byproduct of the more profound scholarly rigour that underpins all that we do.

Lancing College is a place of scholarship where you will learn with integrity. We teach you to be curious and to think deeply, for yourself and for the right reasons, grounded in the essential attributes of learning. Our learning is exciting and inspiring, and our teachers take delight in going far beyond teaching to the test. Pupils are taught to think, to exercise curiosity, and to relish learning. Our knowledge of the young people here underpins everything at Lancing and contributes in no small part to the fantastic results achieved each summer. You will meet with your Academic Tutor one-to-one once a week and they will work with you and guide you to shine, academically and personally. In the Sixth Form you choose your Tutor, and this enables a dynamic working relationship that forges and curates your future.

7

We inspire and challenge you to think differently through art. At Lancing College, we provide the space, guidance, and resources to bring out your innermost creativity. Our modern Art Department is a creative melting pot, where artists and designers develop in bright, inspiring spaces equipped for many different artistic interests including ceramics, printmaking, and photography. It also features a darkroom, outdoor spaces, and an art reference library. If you prefer a more practical approach, our Design and Technology (DT) Department is where creativity meets realworld problem-solving. In our dedicated DT facility, you can explore everything from product design to engineering, using cutting-edge tools like 3D printers and laser cutters alongside traditional techniques. DT encourages innovation, resilience, and critical thinking as you bring your ideas to life and tackle challenges with confidence and originality — whether designing sustainable solutions, prototyping new creations, or crafting bespoke pieces.

If you’re drawn to the stage, our annual productions range from cutting edge and experimental to the classics, featuring plays, musicals, comedies, House plays, student-written and directed works, travelling theatre, and a production involving the entire Third Form (Year 9) in the Summer Term. Drama builds confidence, teamwork, and self-expression, while our dance programme spans a range of styles, from contemporary to classical, offering something for everyone. Whether treading the boards or choreographing your own work, be inspired to explore talents and develop a lifelong love for performance. Our programmes benefit from excellent facilities, including a 180-seat theatre, an outdoor theatre, inaugurated by Agatha Christie in 1960, and a dedicated dance studio.

As soon as I entered the Theatre I could feel the mood of inspiration and creativity.

Lancing College is renowned nationwide for its outstanding music programme. With a team of 30 music and choral scholars at its heart, the Music School thrives as a hub of excellence and talent. Music at Lancing is for everyone, with the majority of pupils involved in some way. The House Music Competition attracts hundreds of entries annually and is fiercely fought. Weekly lessons in instruments, singing, composition, theory, and conducting are paired with a rich co-curricular programme, including orchestras, choirs, composition, chamber music coaching, big band, symphonic windband, a cappella club, rock band, and more. Beyond lessons and co-curricular activities, you can enjoy masterclasses, visits to concerts, operas, and services, and the privilege of the Chapel Choir and Choral Scholars singing evensong at major cathedrals across the UK.

I am beyond grateful to have the opportunity to work and perform with talented musicians. 12

Our community’s musical excellence is reflected in alumni studying at leading conservatoires, including the Royal Northern College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama, the Royal College of Music, and the Royal Academy of Music, as well as holding choral and organ scholarships at Oxford and Cambridge and forging internationally recognised careers as composers, singers and instrumentalists.

programme helps you build a broad skill set that will support you in future careers after Lancing. The co-curricular programme develops the resilience and confidence to face challenges, whether academic or personal. By challenging yourself, making mistakes, and learning from them, you build the skills you need to handle whatever comes your way. By supporting you through this process, you will gain the tools to try, fail, and try again — ultimately gaining the confidence to achieve whatever you set your mind to.

When you arrive at Lancing, whether day or boarding, you’ll join one of ten Houses. This House becomes your home for the entire time at Lancing. You’ll have the chance to get involved in all aspects of life at Lancing, joining clubs, sports teams, and activities. Many day pupils arrive early for breakfast and stay until after supper, or for evening debates, homework, performances or societies.

The House system has been a huge part of life here. It feels like a real family, and I really like being able to look up to the House Captains and to progress throughout the years. 20

Day Houses are open 7.00am - 9.00pm. They offer the same facilities and care as Boarding Houses, with the sole exception of a bed. Boarding at Lancing offers weekends full of energy and friendship. Saturday mornings start with a tutorial period then lessons for all, afternoons with sports fixtures and a lively programme of evening social events. Sundays are more leisurely with a relaxed brunch, transport to local shops, and a programme of excursions and activities. Your time at Lancing will be busy and full of opportunities.

Be at home amongst friends 21

Malawi was exceptional — it was six weeks that will stay with me for the rest of my life.

22

Be the difference Through our outreach programme, you’ll have the chance to get involved in a variety of charitable projects, both locally and globally. Our pupil-led charity committees create fundraising initiatives and raise awareness of important causes, giving you the opportunity to take action and contribute to meaningful change. The Lent Term is dedicated to fundraising for the whole school with each House choosing and championing a particular cause. One of the most transformative experiences is the biennial Malawi Expedition, where students travel to Malawi to support community projects focused on education, healthcare, and sustainable development. These experiences will not only allow you to help others, but also to develop leadership skills, empathy, and a lifelong commitment to service. At Lancing, we believe in the power of community and the difference you can make in the world.

This school built me into the person I am today, including inspiring me to become a diplomat — and it still offers me so much support 10 years later.
