Renovation & Expansion of Dallas City Hall Studio 8 Spring 2026 Dallas Texas Instructor: Amy Leveno The renovation of Dallas City Hall evolved through three connected phases: research, master planning, and an architectural expansion. The project began by studying pedestrian activity, public amenities, and the civic role of the existing complex, revealing opportunities to make City Hall more accessible and integrated with downtown Dallas. Those findings shaped a broader master plan organized around a new north–south pedestrian axis, which then became the framework for an expansion on the southern portion of the site that extends civic programming, strengthens public connections, and transforms the complex into a more active and welcoming destination.

DALLAS URBAN CONTEXT MAP
The Dallas City Hall site sits within the Civic Center district, positioned between the dense high-rise core to the north west, the convention center directly adjacent and transportation corridors to the south east. Major freeway infrastructure and elevated interchanges carve strong physical boundaries through the district, reinforcing superblocks and limiting pedestrian permeability. Large civic structures and structured plazas establish a monumental scale that contrasts with the finer-grain street grid and positioned areas.

The Brick Line Hotel Studio 7 Fall 2025 Norman Oklahoma Instructor: Lee Fithian The design is structured as a direct response to its urban condition, addressing the intensity of campus activity while accommodating the overlapping needs of hotel guests and local users. A highly activated ground plane anchors the project to the street, where public programs including the lobby, dining spaces, daycare, and multipurpose rooms extend the life of the campus into the building and reinforce pedestrian engagement. Above, a rational residential grid emerges, structured by room typologies, service cores, and circulation efficiencies that prioritize clarity, repeatability, and operational performance.
