Preston Guild Charity Concert • Friday 31st August Concert - A ‘Royal Variety’ style concert organised by Preston Twinning Partnership aims to bring music to your ears with performances from local as well as internationally renowned artists. The event will be held at the Guild Hall Charter Theatre.

Tickets are £35 and are available from the Guild Box office.

Headlining is jazz sensation Ronnie Scott’s 17-piece Orchestra also appearing is legendary crooner Tony Christie. Doors open at 6.45 for a 7:30 start.

Pulse Issue One - Summer 2012

Our target is £500,000 to purchase a CT Scanner for Lancashire and South Cumbria’s Major Trauma Centre.

The overall cost of works is £1.26m which includes £600k for a CT scanner. The hospital has set aside over £700k we need to raise the rest.

So far we have raised £70,000 and by the end of 2012, we hope to have raised £200,000.

Charity night has raked in over £2,500

A very warm welcome to the first edition of Pulse, and thank you all so much for your generous support since I joined in January. I would welcome any articles or suggestions for content you would like to see here.

It’s certainly been a busy few months Many people have been organising events and getting involved in supporting this very important appeal, I have mentioned some in ‘Thank you’s’.

In May this month, consultant Andy Curran, Modern Matron Michael Dudley and I took the cross bay challenge, kindly organised by UCLAN for the Lifesaver Appeal. 450 people took to the beach in glorious sunshine as seen on the front cover and set off across the famous sands of Morecambe Bay. Ably escorted by the Queen’s Guide, Cedric Robinson, who when asked how he avoided the perils of the sands told me, “I read these sands like you read a bloomin book!”

A breathtaking event which we hope repeat next year. We hope to have raised more than £3,500.

When brain haemorrhage survivor Martin Herrington and his wife, Christine from Longridge organised an evening of Rock, Soul and Blues at St Wilfreds Club in Longridge, they were overwhelmed with the support received.

The sellout event raised £2,600 for the Lifesaver Appeal.

A big thank you to you all.

STROKE

A glittering Lifesaver Appeal Guild Ball sponsored by Hempsons Solicitors and supported by Barclays took place at the Marriott in April. Organiser Sharon, wife of Consultant Andy Curran, received much support and many prizes from local businesses including Jet2 flights and Lytham Golf Open tickets.

It was a huge success raising over £7,500 Well done to all involved.

Islamic society call to action UCLAN’s Islamic Society have pledged to raise £10,000 over the year. The group will be hosting events throughout the year in a bid to raise awareness and funds for our appeal. Thank you all very much.

I will keep you posted on their progress, but recent updates indicate that they have raised over £2,500.

Major trauma is serious injury that could result in death or serious disability.

Nationally, injury is the leading cause of death amongst children and adults aged 44 and below.

Across our region as many as 500 lives per year could be saved by providing specialised trauma care and evidence confirms that major trauma victims have better chances of survival if they have a CT scan on arrival at hospital that those who do not.

Royal Preston Hospital has been selected as the major trauma centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria as it already provides the full range of specialist services required to deliver the best possible treatment for trauma patients.

North West Ambulance Service and North West Air Ambulance will be based at Royal Preston Hospital from the summer completing the major trauma network.

As every second counts our specialist team need access to a state of the art CT scanner to provide them with accurate information on internal injuries within seconds, allowing life or limb saving treatment to commence within minutes.

As you probably know the NHS has only limited funds, we therefore need to raise an additional £500, 000 to enable us to purchase this lifesaving piece of equipment and provide the best possible care for you and your family when you need it most.

So far, thanks to the partnership we have made with the Lancashire Evening Post, we have received enormous support from public and patients from across the region as well as from our staff. This has brought in donations in the region of £70k, which is a fabulous achievement.

Every second counts “ following a serious accident, and a CT scanner in the trauma centre will enable the team of experts to quickly diagnose injuries, and start the treatment that will improve chances of recovery and save lives.

A major trauma could happen to anyone, but knowing you’re in good hands and willl get the best care possible is something worth supporting. I wish the appeal every success.
