Croeso / Welcome to this issue of the Grapevine

Having enjoyed the rest period from editorial duties, I now find myself struggling to get back into the swing of things! Trying to remain focussed whilst battling with technology and ultra-slow broadband has proved to be a challenge. It has taken far longer than expected to get going again. So how should I move forward? I suppose the best place to start is to outline the theme, ‘The Third Age’. Well what is it? The Third Age Principle defines it “not by a particular age but by a period in life in which full time employment has ceased.” Many people might recognise the term linked to the U3A (University of the Third Age) organisation which promotes lifelong learning for retired and semi-retired people through a range of interest groups; mainly educational, creative and leisure activities which allow members to learn from each other. The benefits are wide ranging; encouraging the joys of discovery in an informal and friendly way whilst building confidence, reducing the effects of loneliness and valuing a sense of community. Now this is where I can make a connection to the Grapevine … readers/

contributors/volunteers sharing skills and learning from each other. So, maybe we are already following the U3A model - low-cost, defined by participants, and learner-led; having a life and existence of our own; not defined by age or past experiences, but defined by experiences still to be explored. I like the sound of that don’t you? So, let’s have some fun - whatever your age - see what there is to discover inside these pages. Maybe you’ll learn something new. Dear Grapevine staff, Re: refund of money from water company providers to customers where rain water (surface water) off the roof of their customers houses does not go into the main drains The following information may be of interest to your many readers that have soakaways or where rainwater drains into a stream bordering their property. Having read an article in a broadsheet newspaper that those with soakaways should not be paying surface water charges on their water bill, I telephoned my water provider and they confirmed I am paying surface water charges. They then inspected my property and it was agreed I do have a soakaway that takes all the rain water off the roof of the house and it does not enter the mains drainage system. I am now to receive a back dated refund of the surface water charges I have paid since 1 April 2014. My neighbours are also making enquiries with their water provider. Water companies do not know if you have a separate surface water drainage system unless you tell them, so it is worth contacting your water provider to ask if you pay surface water charges and request an inspection of your soakaway or if rainwater runs into a stream on the edge of your garden. On new build properties it is also a requirement that wherever possible surface water is not directed into the public sewer system, so worth checking with the developer how your surface water is disposed is managed. Hope this is helpful to your readers, Regards Michelle Endicott

Bwyd Bendigedig Llambed Incredible Edible

Incredible Edible is a nationwide project to encourage people to grow food and to brighten up those bare scraps of land found everywhere. It was founded in Todmorden in 2008 and quickly spread to other towns. I first became aware of it in Machynlleth where by the station the saffron yellow of courgette flowers welcome travellers. Throughout the town small areas bloom with food and bees. The ethos of Incredible Edible is “to believe in the power of small actions, and growing as a visible sign of a kinder community.” By the Coop the empty flower bed has been converted from a rubbish bin into Bwyd Bendigedig; Incredible Edible by a group that grew from Transition Llambed. It was only planted up on the last weekend of May, yet by July the signs had changed from “not ready to eat” to “ready to eat”. Chard, sprouting broccoli, tree spinach, cavolo nero, which is Italian kale ,black snap-peas, chives, sage, tomatoes, strawberries, nasturtiums, columbine and marigolds, and a variety of tomato I’d not seen before with a lantern case to protect the fruit (tomatillos). Each plant has a label with its name on, and as well as being food they are a delight to the eye. Signs written on recycled plastic appear saying : “please water”, “not ready to eat, “ready to eat”. A pile of old tyres cascade with lettuce and strawberries to show that the rubbish we discard can be re-used, look good and provide food.

A small group of dedicated people have made a huge difference to Lampeter, and are looking for more small spaces to empower the community to grow food and embed the ethos of a kinder community. While I was taking photographs there were bees and butterflies and a lady picking salad for her supper. This is an amazing achievement in only three months and can show how a small empty space can became a garden. There are bees and butterflies too, so as well as beautifying the town, providing food for free, it is also helping bio-diversity. Bwyd Bendigedig; Incredible Edible Llambed are looking for more spare scraps of land to beautify and people to take them on. Issue 63, October for

Copy Deadline West Wales Hedgehog Rescue

This year has already been a busy one for West Wales Hedgehog Rescue. By the end of April all of the hedgehogs and hoglets that remained at the rescue centre over Winter were released. It is always an exciting time when they are returned to the wild and we wonder what they will get up to. Will they find a mate? Where will they roam? Will we see them again? Before the hedgehogs are released they are marked to help with identification in the future should they be seen in the area in which they are released, or if they come back to the rescue. Only recently a marked hedgehog was bought in to the rescue with an injured foot. Fortunately for this hog his foot wasn’t broken and after some rest and lots of TLC he was returned to the area where he was found. The rescue relies on people being vigilant, spotting injured or sick hedgehogs, and contacting their local vet or the rescue immediately so that the animal can receive the care and attention it needs as soon as possible. Since the last week in June, 31 hedgehogs and hoglets have been brought to the ‘Hogspital’ for care. Our aim is to keep them for as short a time as possible because they are wild animals. Caring for this number of hogs can’t be achieved without the army of foster carers who help to rehabilitate them once they are well enough to leave the ‘‘Hogspital’. Already this year we have trained eight people to become foster carers. The aim of the rescue isn’t just to care for hedgehogs but to engage and educate people about these lovely prickly little creatures too. To help us do Saturday 15 September this, and in partnership with Long Wood Community Woodland, we are 11am– 3pm holding a Hedgehog treasure hunt on Saturday 15 September. Long Wood Community Woodland This will be a fun filled, family event held in the woodland with hedgehog Llanfair Clydogau, Lampeter SA48 8NE focused activities, crafts to get involved in and a chance to come and meet Using the postcode in satnav will bring you to Long members of the rescue. The Three Stages of Food Room temperature. This will prevent unwanted condensation. If you want to check if your stored seeds are viable a very easy way is to place a few seeds on damp kitchen roll or tissue. Leave the damp, rolled towel in a warm spot in the kitchen for two to five days. The number of seeds that germinate will give you an idea of the percentage that will germinate in your garden. You can then look forward to the next stage of growing your plants and the final one of the pleasure of the harvest. Andrea Sanders For more information: Lampeter Seed Library banchadaullambed@outlook.com

It all starts with a seed or is this another chicken and egg situation? Lets leave that question for another time shall we. Most of our plant based food starts with a seed and it is clear that seeds are vital to our food production and therefore need to be treated with respect on a personal, national and global level. Caring for and storing our seeds is the start of the process. Seeds need to be kept cool and dry to maintain their health and viability. Storing seeds is not unlike storing food. The enemies of seeds are similar: heat, light and humidity. Here are a few tips: 1. Keep seeds at a cool to cold temperature of 5 degrees or less if you can. 2. Avoid fluctuations in temperature such as a garage or storeroom that is cold in winter but blazing hot in summer. 3. Avoid light and never store seeds in direct sunlight or a well lit room. 4.Keep your seeds in a moisture proof containers. Never use plastic bags! 5. Storing your seeds with silica gel can prolong their life. 6.Rotate seeds every few years. This is not 100% necessary but if you are gardening anyway, why not rotate? Some seeds have a very long life but others less so. Very important – don't forget to label your seeds and mark the date you saved them. When you are ready to use your seeds, keep them in their closed storage container until the seeds come to

Cellan: Church and Community Down the Centuries The on-going work of restoring All Saints Church, Cellan has been proceeding well with the help of this summer’s favourable weather. The Grade 11* Church, which is in the top 7% of listed buildings in the UK, is reputed to stand on the site of a Bronze Age barrow and is known to have been a place of worship from mediaeval times. It was successful earlier this year in an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund for a substantial grant towards essential repairs. The work is being carried out by local builder Grenville Evans under the guidance of Chris Hess, of architects Hess. Kincaid, Leach. The restoration work is being accompanied by a series of celebratory activities, further raising awareness of this important feature of the heritage of Ceredigion. The next event will be a special heritage open day Cellan Millennium Hall Saturday 15 September 12 noon to 5pm From 12 to 4pm there will be a display of some of the documents and maps used and analysis undertaken, by archaeologist and historians of the University in Lampeter over the last few decades and people will be on hand to explain the material being presented. At 4pm there will be a talk by Professor Emeritus David Austin to summarise some of the conclusions drawn from the material. All are welcome. Admission is free and tea and biscuits will be available throughout the day. Later in the autumn there will also be a visual art project for primary school children organised in conjunction with Ysgol Y Dderi, Llangybi. Deputy Headteacher Lilian Jones said: “We plan to undertake the project with the help of local artist Helen Duffy and to present an exhibition in church during the autumn term” Richard Bellamy, Head of HLF in Wales, said: “Wales’ historic and diverse places of worship are so often at the heart of our communities. Thanks to National Lottery players HLF funds urgent structural repairs and also improved facilities and visitor information. Our project with All Saints Church is an excellent example of how HLF can help conserve a much loved building so it can continue to serve its local community”. Jottings

We are very lucky today in that as we get older there are many opportunities to study at any level

either

as

a

mature

student at a regular university, or one of the many classes run by

councils

or

private

individuals. There are numerous on line

courses that are free of charge (you may have to pay for a certificate!) Following a course that involves activities such as visiting places of interest is very beneficial as it is good for both mental and physical health. My own interest in the natural world means that when I am out walking there is always

something

of

interest,

sometimes just features of the landscape, sea or sky. It is relatively cheap, too: many of the field guides are available in our libraries or on-line. A good jacket and footwear are all you need; optical equipment is useful but not essential. It is also a way to meet other like-minded people; sharing one’s

experiences

helps

increase our knowledge. Inspiration for many of my Jottings

comes

from

my

ramblings and from some of the people I meet along the way.

Of course, it is always

very encouraging when I come

across somebody who has read Grapevine and tells me his or her own experiences of the natural world. David Price

Cothi Gardeners Cothi Gardeners are delighted to welcome back Paul Green from Greensleaves Nursery in Gloucestershire. Paul is an entertaining speaker with a wealth of knowledge about rather unusual plants which will nevertheless grow well in our climate. He is always on the look-out for something new, but tests all new species for hardiness before putting them on general sale. His nursery in Newent was established over twenty years ago and since then Paul and his team have become firm favourites among gardeners looking for something out of the ordinary. Come along to Coronation Hall on 19 September at 7.30pm for an evening full of new gardening ideas. As ever, guests and visitors are always welcome, £3, which includes tea/coffee. Cothi Gardeners meet at Coronation Hall, Pumsaint, SA19 8UW. We would like to thank everyone, stallholders and visitors alike, who helped to make our first Plant Fair in July such a success. As a result, we were thrilled to present Wales Air Ambulance with a cheque for £500. At the end of the Fair we were asked numerous times if we would hold a similar Fair in 2019, the answer is a resounding “Yes”. Donna Worrall

The three core ethics of Permaculture are People Care, Earth Care and Fair Shares. What better way to live out People Care and Fair Shares than sharing in any surplus that we have harvested at the end of the growing season? The idea is simple. Cook or make up a dish, using some or any bits of surplus from your harvest and bring it along to a “Bring and Share” supper at the above date, time and place. Get Active for Wildlife! This exciting new project at Denmark Farm Conservation Centre near Lampeter has just started and provides a great opportunity for local people to get involved, learn new skills and help to improve this nature reserve for its wildlife. Get Active for Wildlife aims to manage and improve the various habitats for wildlife including the grasslands, wetlands, woodlands and hedgerows that can be found throughout the reserve. Denmark Farm was once an intensively managed farm. 30 years on it is now a nature reserve; a haven for wildlife through the changes in its management for conservation.

As part of this project, we are also able to provide some exciting opportunities for volunteers to get involved and help to make a difference for the future. We will be running a number of training days over the next year, including the knowledge and skills to help manage the different habitats here, as well as how to observe and record the wide variety of species that make Denmark Farm their home. The grasslands will be improved to increase the diversity of wild flowers and grasses that provide a source of food and shelter to animals such as bees, butterflies and other insects, as well as small mammals which in turn, provide food for hunting owls and birds of prey. The wetlands, including ponds, scrapes and ditches provide an essential habitat for amphibians including frogs, toads and newts and beautiful insects such as dragonflies that all need water to be able to

25

complete their life-cycles. The woodlands and hedgerows provide a home and food source for birds, invertebrates and small mammals that all play an essential part in the huge web of life. So, are you ready to ‘Get Active for Wildlife’?! We are hosting our first taster day for volunteers on Sunday 9 Sept from 10am–3pm at Denmark Farm. There will be an introduction to the project including the opportunities and benefits of volunteering with us, as well as taking part in a practical activity and looking at some of the wonderful wildlife we have here on the reserve. Tea and cake will also be provided! If you would like more information then please get in touch with Linda on 01570-493358 or e-mail me at linda@denmarkfarm.org.uk I work part-time so I will reply to you as soon as I can. Linda Bradshaw-Wood

CAN YOU HELP OUT? With Universal Credit on the horizon in Ceredigion, Banc Bwyd Llanbed is preparing for a rise in need for the food bank, and are looking for some more volunteers to join our team. Although this is Lampeter churches’ initiative, you don’t need to be a member of a church to join us, and we warmly welcome all who are willing to help. Ideally, you need to be able to offer some time on a regular planned basis. The more of us there are, the less time we each need to give. It is rewarding work, and we give training and support to everyone who joins us. It could involve joining the rota to prepare and give out food parcels, holding the food bank phone to take referrals, or helping to deal with food donations, whichever fits the time you have available. If you think you could help, please call us Mon-Fri, 9am-5pm, 07582 905743 or leave a message with your number. Diolch / Thank you Julia Lim On behalf of Banc Bwyd Llambed / Lampeter Food Bank

Recent Reviews Sarvestan Ensemble Fri 6 July, Victoria Hall A Rare Treat for Lampeter A warm summer’s evening with the last rays of the sun beckoning a clear starry night: a perfect backdrop to the soothing melodies of Persian classical music. The sounds of the traditional Persian instruments, the mellifluous tones of the vocals and, to top it all, the amazing micro-tones which sit beautifully within the musical structure, transported the audience to another world – the desert lands of Persia. Not only were the melodies a rare treat, but the instruments themselves were a feast for the eyes. An ancient art form, the Persian classical tradition is one of the oldest music traditions in the world. Referred to as Mousighi Dastgah or Radif, this tradition has an honoured place in UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. Six of the finest musicians, highly experienced in the tradition, having trained with the great masters of this rich classical art form, made up the Sarvestan Ensemble. A pamphlet introducing the artists and their music was very helpful – thanks to the organiser. The first half of the concert consisted of two solo pieces, one played by Houshmand Ebadi on the Ney flute, accompanied by Fariboz Kiani on the tombak (percussion) and the other by Hooman Roomi on the Kamanche. Complex and yet soothing is what I felt when hearing these pieces. By this time I was yearning to hear the full ensemble with vocals, and in the second half the audience had an excellent experience of what a Persian classical music ensemble looks, sound and feels like. The vocals gave a particular magic to the entire sound of the ensemble. Not a sound which is commonly heard, the vocals accentuated the micro- tones, creating breathtaking, dynamic and complex patterns, joyfully moving through the particular modes they were singing. Naseem, the female vocalist, and Payman Nadimi, the male vocalist, who also played the Tar (lute) gave us a superb rendition of Persian classical vocal music. The vocals added a special hue to the vibrant spectrum of sound created by the ensemble. The audience were amazed and astounded by the skills of each and every member of the ensemble and the pure magic created by these wonderful musicians, giving them a resounding standing ovation and calling them back on stage for an encore! On a warm starry night, we all felt the warmth in our hearts as we left Victoria Hall. Thank you Eva Skalla, Gary Thorogood and Transition Llambed for organising this concert. I am sure that the music lovers of Lampeter are thirsting for more!! Rajesh David

The Big Lottery Fund announced four grants for communities in Ceredigion totalling £499,063, just shy of half a million pounds. Home Start - Ceredigion will receive the lion’s share of the four grants for projects across the County. Home Start - Ceredigion successfully bid for £481,113 over three year and will be working in Ceredigion and Caerphilly County Borough. The project will deliver support services for families with young children to prevent crisis and family breakdown. They will be extending perinatal support to new areas. The new services on offer will include outreach work and domestic abuse support and they will be providing advice on benefits and training. Sharon Morris, Manager at Home-Start Ceredigion, said: “Home-Start Ceredigion have been supporting families throughout Ceredigion for the last 26 years and this would not be possible without securing grants. We are so pleased that the Big Lottery continue to support our ethos which has enabled us to match fund with for other grants so that we can offer employment, volunteering opportunities as a way back into employment and bridged gaps in services needed by our families. On behalf of the families and staff we would like to thank the Big Lottery Fund for supporting us to reduce social isolation and bring communities together. Thank you National Lottery players for making this project possible.” Three more Ceridigion based groups were successful in applying for smaller grants: Grwp Coffi Llanon Coffee Group successfully applied for £5,000 to take members on a series of trips intended to help integrate their bilingual community and foster good relationships. Llandysul Family Centre will spend £9,950 to develop an intergenerational project with joint activities with the local sheltered housing, will fund staff salaries, activities, transport and technology. The Friendship Club in Cardigan will use £3,000 to hire a mini bus and driver, providing day and evening trips for the local community to combat isolation and loneliness. Rosie Dent Manager for Mid and West Wales at the Big Lottery Fund said: "This month we are celebrating projects which benefit families and young people and we are delighted to announce the grant for Home Start Ceredigion which will support so many families. These four grants provide a substantial investment into Ceredigion and demonstrate that National Lottery funding continues to make a positive impact to people and communities of the county." These two awards are part of three million pounds (£3,007,815) given as grants to 37 projects in Wales in August These grants are made possible thanks to people buying tickets for the UK’s National Lottery. As part of investing in the young people in this area Tŷ Pren are proud to announce …

The Tŷ A LAMPETER author has written a sci-fi novella loosely based on a recurring nightmare he used to have. Dark System, by Thomas Cave, is about a government mission to explore an uncharted nebula. The 17,000-word story is said to have a ‘retro’ feel, and although the story is not set in Wales one of the main characters, chief engineer Llwyd, is a sarcastic and rebellious Welshman. “I’ve been attempting to write science fiction for many years I even submitted a Star Wars story to a fan fiction website in 2000,” Thomas, 35, told the Cambrian News. “However, I never managed to create anything that was really worth taking further. “Then in late 2008 I entered an essay-writing competition to recreate the American Declaration of Independence for the modern world. “I didn’t win, but out of thousands of entries my essay

Sustainable Eco House Design

was runner-up along with five others, this gave me confidence. “That was when I decided to write Dark System, which is loosely based on a recurring nightmare I used to have. “After many years of working on it intermittently, I finished Dark System and sent it to friends and family. “The feedback was good so I decided to do something with it. My research indicated that the best option was to publish on demand. “Then all I needed was to find professional illustrating, typesetting and editing services, which took a lot of time, money and effort. “Finally I was able to upload Dark System to Amazon’s CreateSpace and KDP self-publishing platforms late last year. Now I am trying to market my book.” Thomas Cave

Simon Cavendish MTI, ITEC, LCSP (Assoc.) Remedial Deep Tissue Massage Therapy What is Remedial deep Tissue Massage Therapy? It is a form of soft tissue manipulation/massage. Besides benefiting the skin, the vascular and the lymphatic systems, it targets the deeper tissues: muscles, tendons and ligaments and the connective tissue – fascia. Incorporating the techniques of the Swedish massage, Remedial Deep Tissue Therapy utilises trigger point deactivation techniques and the soft tissue stretching techniques for a powerful effect. (Trigger points are small exquisitely tender points within the muscle tissue or connective tissue displaying a different electro-chemical activity which can produce muscle shortening & weakness, as well as refer pain to unrelated parts of the body.) Where appropriate, clients are encouraged to undertake additional stretching and strengthening exercises between treatments in order to aid recovery. Because of its intensity, some discomfort during & after the treatment may occur. Individuals with a history of serious diabetes, epilepsy, heart conditions, significantly high blood pressure, systemic inflammatory conditions (e.g. MS, ME, rheumatoid arthritis), are advised to consult their GP before choosing Remedial Deep Tissue Therapy.

Who might benefit? Sportsmen/women, by helping them prevent and manage injuries Individuals recovering from traumas, (e.g.) fractures, sprains & strains and surgeries, by speeding up the recovery of the soft tissue function as well as improving mobility of the affected joints & tissues Individuals experiencing muscular pains, mobility impairment, & stiffness due to stress, sedentary working environment or repetitive activity Individuals experiencing backache or neck ache accompanied by stiffness (unless it be caused by an inflammatory or neurological condition) Older individuals, by helping to improve and maintain function of their muscles and joints. About Your Therapist Totally blind since childhood, I became interested in the mind-body connection and complementary medicine after completing post-graduate studies in English and Welsh language and literature. At the same time, I began to practise Yoga as a form of exercise and meditation. I initially undertook training in holistic massage in Bristol, certificated by Massage Training Institute in London & continued studies in remedial massage comprising modules in sports injuries management. I went on to studying deep tissue myofascial release techniques in a series of workshops taught by Paresh Rink in Glastonbury over a period of two years (1995/6). I have been a member associate of London and Counties Society of Physiologists since 1996. Should English not be your first language, I also speak Welsh, Greek & Polish as well as some Spanish.

We were told about their history and their work. Both horses are now retired and enjoying a very quiet life in Wales. This was followed by wonderful refreshments provided by Diane. Due to the very hot weather we were able to hold the entire meeting outside, which was quite different. The usual monthly business was then continued, names for walks, competition items handed in for the show at the end of July, and final details for our summer trip. Another very enjoyable meeting. Next meeting: 4 Sept, 7.30pm at the Coronation Hall, Pumsaint with a talk on Red Squirrels. Anne Brooks For further details please contact: Anne Brooks, 01558 650154 or Diana Jones, 01558 650153

COEDWIG GYMUNEDOL LONG WOOD COMMUNITY WOODLAND It’s been a busy summer in Long Wood; as we approach the end of our Lottery funding, we are engaging in a process of assessing and re-evaluating our working models to assure our future as a sustainable organisation. As part of this process, we are focusing on the development of our volunteer team. Volunteers are central to Long Wood. Our small team of staff are highly dedicated, and essential to our ability to operate, but we cannot attempt to manage a woodland of the size of Long Wood without far greater input than so few people are able to provide. Our board of directors are all volunteers, and, crucially, much of the essential day-to-day maintenance and woodland management work is carried out by our regular volunteer team. We hold volunteer days every Wednesday. Meeting in the car park at 10am, these days are run by our new Woodland Warden, Leia Duffee. Leia has previously been a key volunteer at Long Wood, and for the past 18 months leading volunteer activities on Wednesdays. She is now working to develop these days through increasing the training and support we are able to provide to our volunteers. During the summer our volunteers have been working to improve the infrastructure within the woods; repairing footpaths, removing and replacing damaged structures, such as the shelter at the view point, and the steps leading to it, as well as continuing to work on the new roundhouse with Jamie Miller of Tŷ Pren. Our annual volunteer team trip this year was to Castell Henllys Iron Age Village, where we were able to see reconstructed Iron Age roundhouses. Although these are very different to our roundhouse, it was an interesting comparison. Volunteers have been increasing their carpentry skills, building the new picnic benches in the car park, and have learnt about the Pine Marten recovery project, setting up a survey for Pine Martens with Josie Bridges from the Vincent Wildlife Trust. As autumn approaches we will continue to teach volunteers traditional woodland management skills; thinning areas of young re-planting,

and coppicing with hand tools. Volunteers have also been heavily involved in events, this summer promoting Long Wood at the Lampeter Show, the Tyfi Arts exhibition and drop-in surgery we held at the woods, and attending the Royal Welsh Show to assist on the Llais y Goedwig stand. Anyone interested in learning more about the volunteering opportunities at Long Wood, whether joining our regular Wednesday Volunteer days, getting involved in events and promoting Long Wood, or offering services as a candidate to become a director, should email us for further information info@longwood-lampeter.org.uk. September sees the start of the woodland year, when we will be continuing with some larger scale projects within the woods. The area that suffered such devastating storm damage in March will be re-planted this winter. We will need to bring a digger on to site in early autumn to prepare the ground. At the same time we will be doing the major ground work for a series of new wildlife ponds in the area immediately adjacent to this. This work will obviously have some impact for users of the woodland, and although we will attempt to keep this to a minimum, there will be some closures to the footpath from the main car park. We ask all users of the woodland to follow all Safety Warning Signage associated with this. We are now looking towards winter in terms of firewood, and in early September will be using a horse logger to extract beech to supply our firewood business. Our logs are available by the bag or in bulk, email, phone, pop into the office or check facebook for up-to-date prices. Our community coppice scheme will be running again this year too. For a small fee experienced coppice workers can have a coppice coupe to cut during the winter. Sign up for coupes is now open, but coupes are limited, so get in touch if you want to put your name down. Finally, on Saturday 15 September we are hosting a Hedgehog Hunt with West Wales Hedgehog Rescue (see p7). This is a hedgehog themed treasure hunt, and the day will include other children’s activities, as well as information about hedgehogs, craft stalls and importantly, a cake stall! Hope to see plenty of people there. Ben Allen
