Nicco shared his story to bring awareness on how bad puppy mills are, while in the process encouraging people to get animals from shelters or rescue groups instead. Amy Skarb is from Clinton Township, MI but you may know her as the infamous Drag King Spacee Kadett! It all started in 2007, when she first performed at the Oakland University Drag show. Amy explained, “I didn’t want to do drag at first, because I am really feminine but once I was able to find the courage to try. I enjoyed it so much and soon realized it was a part of me.” In 2009, Spacee Kadett started to expand his character from the University shows to Detroit’s entertainment scene. Thus far, he holds five titles and one national title. Over the years he has graced several magazines and has won numerous awards from the,
Performers Awards of Detroit (PAD).
Spacee Kadett is one intriguing character with an alter ego of his own called, “Miss Spacee”. She is known as a sassy live vocalist who puts her own twist to the lyrics of popular songs.
Watching Spacee perform either of her characters is truly remarkable. You can tell by the perfection of the performance, props and costumes that a lot of hours of hard work were put into the show. Yet, he is fun, bubbly, energetic, and simply what I would refer to as a “goof troop”. Spacee makes you enjoy the simple things in life beginning with laughter. Amy is not only an astounding male illusionist but withholds her Master’s Degree. So as you can see— she is not just beauty and talent but obtains book smarts as well. It doesn’t stop there because she also spends time talking to the youth about coming out. Amy came out to her family when she was only sixteen and her family had a lot of trouble with it. 034 L’amour Divine Magazine www.lamourdivine.com
So she understands the struggles teenagers face with their sexuality and having guidance is an important factor. Spacee is not stopping anytime soon and hopes to take over as a male impersonator, while in the process helping other male performers. After our interview Amy wanted to thank Teddy, Michael Christian, Dante Gabbana and Austin because they have influenced her in so many ways. Also Teddy and Michael Christian for bringing him on their new project called, Motor City Drag Kings. Last but not least to her incredible Fiancee Cat, “You’re so amazing and the most responsible for me coming out. You help me with ideas and so much behind the scenes, which keeps me together.”
