Emily Beck #14: Midfield & Soccer Mom

Synopsis

This is a brief summary of the play to help the sensory guide make more sense.

Left quad. Right quad. Lunge. A girls indoor soccer team warms up. From the safety of their suburban stretch circle, the team navigates big questions and wages tiny battles with all the vim and vigor of a pack of adolescent warriors. A portrait of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for nine American girls who just want to score some goals.

The titular Wolves, all aged 16 to 17 years old, are unnamed and identifyable only by their jersey numbers. The play is presented in one act with no interval, each of the six scenes set on a consecutive Saturday as the girls warm up and prepare for their weekly games. They have (mostly) been playing together for over a decade, and they are competitive and undefeated with little to no assistance from their useless male coach.
