SHOW SYNOPSIS / WHAT TO EXPECT Shortly after an unspecified apocalyptic event, a group of survivors gather together and begin to attempt to recount the episode "Cape Feare" of the television show The Simpsons. The second act picks up with the same group seven years later, who have now formed a theatrical troupe that specializes in performing Simpsons episodes, with commercials and all. (Interval) The final act is set an additional 75 years in the future. The same episode of The Simpsons, now a familiar myth, has been reworked into a musical pageant, with the story, characters, and morals repurposed to fit the artistic and dramatic needs of a culture still reeling from destruction of civilization and the near-extinction of humanity decades earlier. Throughout the show thunder sounds play, and the actors discuss their feelings in the aftermath of an apocalypse. They discuss people who may have died in the tragedy.
At the start of the show, the lights will go out and thunder will sound. There is a siren noise.
The actor playing Matt will strike a match and light a fire in a big barrel. This is a controlled flame and cannot spread. The actor playing Sam is sat holding a gun, it is fake.
A noise is heard off-stage. The actor playing Gibson arrives. The other actors all pull out fake guns and point them at him. They are hostile towards him and search him.
The actors all discuss people that they hope to still be alive after the apocalyptic event. The actor playing Maria talks about a man she met who was injured badly by nuclear disaster.
The actor playing Gibson fills an awkward silence with a dramatic line from the Simpsons. It takes the other actors by surprise and they draw their fake guns on him.
The lights will dim and a song will play, sung by a man. The actors will change the scenery around on stage. This will take about 4 minutes.
It is 7 years later. The actors are setting up to perform an episode of the Simpsons. They use loud foley noises to recreate the sounds of the action.
There is a loud crashing noise offstage. The actors onstage all draw their fake guns. When they realise it is Sam, they put them down.
The actor playing Gibson realises at one point that they are wrong about a group decision that has been made. They begin to think they are really ill. The other actors shout at him.
The actors sing a medley of pop songs, and dance to them. The actors playing Maria and Jenny have an
argument about whether they are creating a comedy or not, Maria runs off upset.
The house lights will come on suddenly. The actors will think they can see people who are dangerous behind the audience where you are sat. They will point their fake guns towards the theatre door.
A gunshot noise will be heard. The lights will change. INTERVAL (The interval is 20 minutes long. During the interval the stage will be cleared and a new scene will be set. There will be a large cloth with ‘Terror Lake’ written on it, hung at the back of the stage.
The lights will dim, and thunder will sound. The actors will enter through the audience wearing large gold capes.
Loud music sounds. This act is mainly sung by the actors.
The actors take on the roles of Itchy and Scratchy. They pretend to fight, spurred on by Sam, playing Mr Burns.
At the end of Itchy and Scratchy’s fight, the cat is on the floor and the audience are encouraged to clap them getting ‘timed out’. You don’t have to join in with this if you don’t want to.
Sam playing Mr Burns, pretends to Kill Homer, Maggie, Marg and Lisa. The actors scream.
The lights go very dark. A baby crying can be heard. The noise of Thunder is also heard.
Sam, playing Mr Burns, challenges Matt playing Bart to a duel. They fight with Swords. The actors have been trained in how to do this very safely.
Matt, playing Bart pretends to kill Sam, playing Mr Burns, with his sword. Mr Burns gets up and walks offstage.
The actors will all sing together, and lots of fairy lights will come on above them. The actors will bow and leave the stage via the auditorium.
After the actors have bowed and the audience have clapped, the actor playing Mr Burns will be revealed riding a bike at the back of the stage. The lights will slowly go down on him and people may want to clap again.
The End of the Show.
