ach year, Los Angeles publishes a roundup of recommended doctors in various specialties. There are many ways to engage in such a time-consuming Herculean effort. We could include witty quotes from TV doctors like Doogie Howser, Hawkeye Pierce, or Trapper John and splash a headshot of a young and sexy George Clooney draped in a stethoscope. We’re certain Clooney would love to have dusted off his smocks from his pre-megastar days in the hit show ER, not Grey’s Anatomy, as so many people believe. Alas, we chose to stay with

the tried and true for our fifth annual Top Doctors list. Why fix what ain’t broken? We relied on Professional Research Services to conduct a countywide peer-to-peer survey. Practicing physicians were asked to nominate doctors they deem worthy of consideration. After cross-checking the California Medical Board’s license profile database and the Department of Consumer Affairs to ensure they had clean bills of health, the names were whittled down to a manageable 1,300-plus. We could have opted for flash over substance. Instead, we present a no-frills look at some of the best doctors practicing today.
