LOS ANGELES MAGAZINE PRESENTS LAMAG.COM 63
By Rance Collins
What was once a hidden gem has now blossomed into a dynamic hub boasting eclectic boutiques, Michelin-rated eateries with al fresco dining, and unforgettable open street events like the upcoming "Day of The Dog" scheduled for September 7th, 2024. Bring your (well-behaved) pups!
Main Street hosts one of the Westside's premier farmers markets every Sunday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm just south of Ocean Park Blvd. between ‘The Victorian’ and the ‘California Heritage Museum’. Beyond the freshest local produce, visitors are treated to live music, craveable food truck off erings, and family-friendly activities, making it a Sunday ritual not to be missed.
Escape the monotony of malls as Main Street sprawls from Pico all the way to Rose Ave., off ering a plethora of shops and dining options to stroll or bike between. From celebrity-frequented spots like ‘Urth
Via Veneto
Caffe’ to the culinary delights of ‘Pasjoli’, an award winning French restaurant, to the tantalizing flavors of ‘Sunny Blue’, which offers Omusubi (Japanese rice balls) and the southeastern asian cuisine of ‘Cobi's’, Main Street is a culinary odyssey that spans the globe.
Kickstart your morning with delectable donuts and artisanal coffee at 'Alfalfa' or 'The Place To Be'. Then, indulge in a postcarb workout at renowned fitness studios like 'Love for Pilates' or 'Athletic Gaines', or opt for a leisurely e-bike tour to explore the area from ‘Pedal or Not’ bikes.
Shopping enthusiasts will find bliss within Main Street's diverse array of boutiques, including the celebrity-favorites 'Lost and Found' and ‘jAdis’, or the artisanal offerings of 'OK' boutique. Pamper yourself with a massage at 'The Now' or enjoy a manicure-pedicure session at 'Pinkie's' or the newly launched 'Toolbox', catering specifically to male clientele.
If you need a pickup, savor an adaptogen mushroom latte at 'MUD\WTR' or satisfy your sweet tooth with artisanal gelato from ‘Dolcenero Gelato’. And for home decor aficionados, specialty shops
like 'Epoxy Expertise' and ‘Cabin Creek Crystals’ await your discovery.
But Main Street isn't just about dining and shopping—it's a cultural melting pot where history meets modernity. Explore the ‘California Heritage Museum’, indulge in a psychic reading at the ‘Psychic boutique’, or admire the architectural marvels like the Frank Gehry-designed ‘Edgemar’, where the patrons fill the courtyard enjoying ‘Holey Grail Donuts’ with ‘Blue Bottle Coffee’. It’s also a great place to get maps and information from ‘Santa Monica Travel & Tourism’.
KAFE K
Health conscious breakfast/lunch cafe in a casual but sleek venue with welcoming outdoor patio. This is a place where people get together, chat, engage. The friendly staff always makes sure that you leave satisfied and with a smile on your face. A tasty gem on Main Street.
Echoing the sentiments of Jeffrey Segal, Founder of ‘Mystic Journey Bookstore & Crystal Shop’, Main Street is a treasure trove where culinary excellence and artisanal craftsmanship converge. "Main Street is that wonderful destination that combines great restaurants with fabulous local, independent retail businesses offering unique, high-quality products. It’s the perfect place to find anything you need for your home, your office, or your stomach!"
When night falls, Main Street transforms into a lively nightlife hub. Whether you're sipping one of the many tequilas offered at ‘Lula Cocina Mexicana’, watching the game at ‘Jameson's Pub’ or sipping cocktails with glitterati at the ‘Basement Tavern’, the excitement never wanes.

In the words of designer Anthony Schmitt (who designs the world famous ‘shopping cart tree’ every year at Edgemar), Main Street embodies an "ever-evolving historical street" that captures the essence of community with surprise at every turn. So whether you're seeking a quick escape or a full-day adventure, Main Street Santa Monica promises an experience that lingers long after you've left its vibrant thoroughfare.
