Our Team

Oran Schachter, DPM, FACFAS is board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He completed his podiatric surgical residency at UCLA/West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital and a fellowship in advanced wound care, limb salvage, and foot and ankle reconstructive surgery. Dr. Schachter is a foremost expert in treating wounds due to diabetes, venous disease (leg swelling), arterial disease (lack of circulation), and traumatic and pressure injuries, as well as complex foot and ankle reconstructive surgery. Originally from Israel, Dr. Schachter is proud to take care of the Southern California community and beyond by healing complex wounds in a difficult patient population. He has spent several years treating all surgical pathologies while at Southern California Kaiser Hospitals. He has a passion for advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques to optimize recovery and healing.

Nicole Garrett, CHT has a background in commercial diving and dive medicine. As a former diver medic, Nicole is a certified hyperbaric technician who started her career operating UC San Diego’s hyperbaric chambers, treating everything from crush injuries and decompression illness to diabetic wounds and effects of radiation for cancer treatments. She then went on to participate in the large traumatic brain injury study for the U.S. Department of Defense. Over her career she has assisted in opening several hundred hospital-based hyperbaric facilities across the country, along with the installation and maintenance of their hyperbaric chambers. Nicole teaches the UHMS board certified training course for the physicians and staff, runs hyperbaric operations for subway and tunnel projects, including the L.A. Metro, and is highly regarded in her field and frequently called upon for consulting at centers across the county and worldwide.

Som Kohanzadeh, MD, FACS is a double-board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and general surgeon specializing in reconstructive and aesthetic procedures throughout the body. He has devoted himself to the treatment of cancer and reconstructive surgery, with a particular focus on breast. Dr. Som completed his training in general surgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and his fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a native of Southern California and is proud to combine the art of plastic surgery with modern advancements of science and technology. Additionally, Dr. Som and his team provide full cosmetic services including nonsurgical treatments such as IV and stem cell therapy to more extensive mommy makeovers, along with body contouring and Brazilian butt lifts.

RICHARD PAULSON, MD

Dr. Richard Paulson is the director of USC Fertility and has been with the practice since 1986. He is also a professor of obstetrics and gynecology and chief of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.

He has been rated one of “The Best Doctors in America” continuously since 1994 and is one of the pioneers of assisted reproduction in the USA. Dr. Paulson was part of the team that reported the first successful birth after embryo cryopreservation in the United States in 1986, the year that he established the USC Fertility practice at USC. He has been the medical director of the USC Fertility practice ever since.

Under his leadership, the USC Fertility program established a number of important “firsts” in the field: first observation that egg donation can be used to produce pregnancies in women of advanced reproductive age (1990), the importance of endometrial receptivity in embryo implantation (1990), the utilization of the natural cycle in IVF (1991), first report of the utilization of GnRH antagonists in IVF (1991), first series of pregnancies in women over the age of 50 (1993). There followed landmark investigations evaluating the absorption of steroids after vaginal administration (1995–2001), and the utilization of oocyte cryopreservation for fertility preservation (2006). The program continues to play a major leadership role in the field of infertility care and the fellowship is among the most competitive in the USA.

Dr. Paulson has previously served as president of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society, the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and the Los Angeles Obstetrical and Gynecological Society. He is also a past examiner for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Currently, he is editor-in-chief of “Fertility & Sterility Reports” and past deputy editor of “Fertility and Sterility.” His major research interest is reproductive aging with a particular emphasis on human embryo implantation and fertility preservation.

MOLLY QUINN, MD, FACOG

Dr. Molly Quinn received her medical degree from David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and did her specialty and subspecialty training at University of California San Francisco (UCSF). She specializes in reproductive endocrinology and infertility.

DAVID TOURGEMAN, MD, FACOG

Dr. David Tourgeman graduated medical school from the University of Southern California in 1994. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology in 1998 and his fellowship in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility in 2001 at the USC, Los Angeles County Women’s and Children’s Hospital. After his fellowship, Dr. Tourgeman stayed at USC as faculty and became an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. After teaching for four years, Dr. Tourgeman began working with HRC Fertility (then Huntington Reproductive Center) in 2005. Dr. Tourgeman currently sees patients in HRC’s Encino and West Los Angeles offices.

ANGELIQUE S. CAMPEN, MD, FACEP

Emergency Medicine

Dr. Angelique Campen has been an emergency medicine physician for over 20 years at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center as well as a clinical professor of emergency medicine at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

In addition to serving the community in the emergency department, Dr. Campen has been both philanthropic and innovative. Early on she identified an issue in the emergency department and created a solution.

Formerly, police officers would bring citizens in custody to the emergency department for DUI blood draws or medical clearances. This placed additional strain on an already busy and chaotic department by bringing in patients who likely didn’t need ER-level care. Additionally, it took two police officers off the street for sometimes hours at a time. It is by creating a more efficient system that Vital Medical Services was born. The company serves cities and law enforcement by sending providers directly to the jail to perform the blood draws and medical clearances.

This effort has unburdened local emergency departments, saved countless man hours and taxpayer dollars, and helped streamline the legal process. It is through this vehicle that Dr. Campen has also tackled another threat to public safety: the opioid epidemic.

Vital Medical Services both trains and supplies police officers with nasal Narcan, the life-saving antidote to opioid overdose. When time is of the essence and someone is not breathing, nasal Narcan is the lifesaving medication that police officers can administer while waiting for paramedics. This program has saved countless lives.

Dr. Campen also spends time and energy educating the public on medical issues through her social media. She started @GlamERdoc to empower young women to pursue serious, powerful, meaningful jobs and still be feminine, glamorous, and fashionable. When the Covid pandemic hit, her platform morphed into providing reliable and timely information when there was little available. Now she gives tips on how to be your best medical advocate, describes ways to stay safe in the medical arena, and explains the interesting issues for health. Dr. Rad cares for women with normal as well as at-risk and high-risk pregnancies. Dr. Rad is unique amongst MFMs in that he also practices obstetrics and does deliveries for his patients. He also provides home visits and at-home full prenatal care. Lastly, the center is excited and anticipating the opening of their rainbow clinic center, one of few in the world, that focuses on women with prior pregnancy losses and stillbirths.

EDWARD K. PANG, DO

Dr. Edward Pang is fellowship trained and tripled board certified in pain medicine, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and brain injury medicine. Dr. Pang's focus is to provide comprehensive pain relief and to optimize the patient's level of function. He specializes in spine, sports, and orthopedic care, and offers multifaceted nonsurgical treatment modalities including regenerative medicine and other advanced pain treatments.

Dr. Pang is attentive to his patient’s needs. He takes the time to listen and explain making sure every patient leave the office with a better understanding of their condition and their treatment options. Dr. Pang and his staff take pride in providing the highest quality of care.

SHARMINI ASHA BALAKRISHNAN, MD

Dr. S. Asha Balakrishnan is a fellowship-trained cataract, refractive, and cornea surgeon and board-certified ophthalmologist at DLV Vision. Prior to starting in private practice, she served as the director of cornea and refractive surgery at the University of Louisville. She has specialized in cataract and refractive surgery for over 10 years and was awarded the 2022 Leo Tauber & David Fainer Award for Vision Care Specialist of the Year by the Ventura County Medical Research Foundation.

Dr. Balakrishnan was born and raised in Virginia, where she attended the Norfolk Academy and graduated as valedictorian, National Merit Scholar, and Presidential Scholar finalist. She graduated with honors in chemistry from Harvard University. After earning her medical degree at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, she completed her internship in internal medicine at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Dr. Balakrishnan did her ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center, where she received the Walter R. Parker Resident Teaching Award. She was then selected for the prestigious Baylor College of Medicine fellowship in Cataract, Refractive, & Cornea Surgery.

Dr. Balakrishnan specializes in all forms of cataract and refractive surgery, including manual and laser-assisted cataract surgery, complex intraocular lens procedures, LASIK, PRK, ICL, and refractive lens exchange. She has been the surgeon of choice for numerous colleagues in the Los Angeles area and members of her own surgical team.
