LITTLE SAIGON

COMMUNITIES GARDEN GROVE This dynamic city has rich cultural diversity, and the area’s agricultural roots are honored at its most famous event: the Garden Grove Strawberry Festival. Held annually over Memorial Day weekend, this massive community celebration draws hundreds of thousands of visitors for a grand parade, carnival rides, and the opportunity to indulge in the world’s largest strawberry shortcake.

LANDMARKS & CULTURE Garden Grove is home to several striking landmarks and cultural venues. The most visually arresting is the Christ Cathedral campus, an architectural marvel known worldwide for its iconic glass structure. For a taste of local history, visit the Stanley Ranch Museum and Historical Village where you can visit Walt Disney’s former garage studios every first and third Sunday of the month— no ticket required! Art and drama lovers can catch a performance at the historic GEM Theatre or the outdoor venue for live entertainment and concerts at Garden Amphitheater (AMP). The city is also home to Great Wolf Lodge, a hotel featuring a massive indoor water park popular among families.

GRAB A PLATE Hungry? At Kura Revolving Sushi, pick your meal from a selection of dishes that merrily rotate through the restaurant. Grab

a plate—or 10!—and enjoy the ride. If you’re craving something sweet, sample the French pastries and Vietnamese treats at Van’s Bakery. Or pick up an Instagram-famous boba or matcha tea from Airoma Cafe.

When it comes to family-friendly dining, outdoor is definitely in. At Cottage Industries, a collection of locally owned shops and restaurants, you can enjoy awardwinning barbecue from Smoke Queen al fresco in the community garden. SteelCraft is another communal space filled with indie food vendors. Grab a bite at Barrio, La Taqueria Brand, Al Dente, or Bird Talk, and pair it with a craft beer from Beachwood Brewing. The complex also often hosts live music and family-friendly events.

THE DISTRICTS LITTLE SAIGON The Little Saigon district is the largest Vietnamese community outside of Vietnam.

Established largely by refugees following the Fall of Saigon in 1975, the area has grown into a thriving commercial and social hub. Bolsa Avenue serves as the main artery, lined with thousands of VietnameseAmerican-owned businesses. At the Asian Garden Mall, you’ll find a maze of jewelry shops and clothing boutiques.

FOOD SCENE The district is a must-visit destination for authentic Middle Eastern flavors, offering everything from Levantine to Yemeni cuisine. You can’t leave without sampling the legendary falafel from long-standing institutions like Kareem’s Falafel or exploring the hearty, flavorful Yemeni rice and meat dishes at House of Mandi. For a quick bite, stop at a traditional bakery like Forn Al-Hara for manaeesh (freshly baked flatbreads topped with za’atar or cheese) or indulge in desserts from Victory Sweets or Le Mirage Pastry.

KOREAN BUSINESS DISTRICT The Korean Business District near Anaheim refers to a growing and dynamic community primarily centered in two cities in Orange County: Buena Park and Garden Grove. Buena Park’s Koreatown, officially established in 2023, is a 2.5-mile strip along Beach Boulevard, serving as a modern epicenter of Korean commerce and entertainment. Further south, Garden Grove’s Koreatown (officially “Orange County Koreatown” since 2019) has deeper roots, tracing back to the mid-20th century.

The Buena Park Koreatown is known for its modern, bustling atmosphere, anchored

by The Source OC, an open-air shopping and entertainment complex. Here, you can find trendy K-pop merchandise and diverse shops. The dining scene is exceptional, offering everything from sizzling, authentic Korean BBQ to crispy Korean fried chicken.

The Garden Grove district, while more laid-back and traditional, is prized for its classic eateries, bakeries, and large Korean supermarkets like Arirang Market, where you can find a variety of snacks and authentic street food.

In a city as diverse and vibrant as Anaheim, anything can happen—and has! Here are some of our favorite local trivia tidbits and anecdotes. f The Anaheim Convention Center is the largest convention center on the West Coast, hosting major events including NAMM, WonderCon, VidCon, and Natural Products Expo West. f Several movie scenes and TV shows have been filmed at the ACC: “Star Trek: Picard,” “Matchstick Men,” “Ocean’s Thirteen”, and “Semi Pro.” f The ACC’s Arena is an original structure from when it was first built. Several iconic artists have performed at the ACC’s Arena, including Elvis Presley, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and The Doors. f The boysenberry, a hybrid of a raspberry, blackberry, and loganberry, was created in Anaheim by horticulturist Rudolph Boysen in the 1920s. Walter Knott popularized the berries, which jump-started Knott’s Berry Farm’s rise to fame. f The popular Capsicum annuum chili variety known as the Anaheim pepper gets its name from the city. It was first brought to the area by farmer Emilio Ortega in the early 1900s.

f The first full-service Carl’s Jr. restaurant (originally named Carl’s Drive-In Barbecue) was opened in Anaheim in 1945 by founders Carl and Margaret Karcher. f Disneyland® Park’s Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction, which opened in 1959, was the first roller coaster in the world to be constructed with a tubular steel track and was the first daily-operating steel coaster. f Sleeping Beauty Castle’s drawbridge is fully functional, making it the only Disney castle in the world with a working drawbridge. It has only been lowered for guests and the public two times: for the park’s opening in 1955 and for the Fantasyland re-dedication in 1983. f Anaheim’s name is a combination of the nearby Santa Ana River and “heim,” a German term for “home,” resulting in “Ana-heim.” f Singer Gwen Stefani, also known for her role as a judge on television’s “The Voice,” attended high school at Anaheim’s Loara High School.

f In 2007, the Anaheim Ducks won their first Stanley Cup championship, making them the first California team to win the NHL’s ultimate prize. f Anaheim was the very first city to be incorporated in Orange County, California, way back in 1870. f Opened in 1966, Angel Stadium is the fourth oldest active stadium in the country.

Only Fenway Park in Boston, Wrigley Field in Chicago, and Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles have been around longer. f Can you guess the most popular attraction at Disneyland® Park? It’s the celebration of the sea’s nefarious marauders: Pirates of the Caribbean. f Walt Disney celebrated his 30th wedding anniversary at the Golden Horseshoe (still open at Disneyland® Park to this day) four days before Disneyland® Park officially opened to the public. MEET THE ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER The enormous and impressive Anaheim Convention Center (ACC) is a world-renowned meeting and exhibit space.

It’s also host to global trade shows, exhibits, and conventions, including Disney’s D23 Expo, National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), Natural Products Expo West, VidCon, WonderCon, BlizzCon, and more.

The ACC is consistently ranked as one of the top meeting venues in the U.S. in terms of its size, attendance, overall building services, and amenities. Its 1.8 million square feet of space makes it the largest convention center on the West Coast, so the ultra-modern facility can host megaconventions, meetings, and trade shows with ease.

The center is outfitted with a 2,000-square-foot rooftop garden filled with adaptive plants and herbs. The garden area is used to reclaim water and cool parts of the building. Sure, Mickey Mouse might be the most well-known name to come from Anaheim, but it’s certainly not the only local brand to have worldwide recognition. From cutting-edge skater fashion to frozen yogurt royalty, these companies have captured the essence of Anaheim and spread it around the globe.

CARL’S JR.

Today, Carl’s Jr. serves charbroiled burgers and other favorites to fans across the West Coast as well as 27 additional countries worldwide. But this chain actually started as a hot dog cart back in 1941. Carl Karcher and his wife, Margaret, grew their business quickly, and within five years, the Karchers opened their first restaurant in Anaheim.

FENDER GUITARS

Any true guitar fan knows about the Telecaster, the first mass-produced electric guitar. Fender Guitars, founded in 1946 by Clarence Leonidas “Leo” Fender, became universally known in 1950 after its introduction. Fender followed up with an electric bass, and eventually, in 1954, rolled out the Stratocaster. It’s a favorite among rock and country legends such as Jeff Buckley, Keith Richards, and Buck Owens, all of whom have played Fender guitars onstage.

PacSun was actually named Pacific Sunwear when it was founded in 1980 by Jack Hopkins and Tom Moore. Initially, the stores sold products made by established surf brands, but the brand has since evolved into a lifestyle apparel retailer showcasing swimwear, footwear, and accessories designed for teens and

young adults. Although the brand sells merchandise globally the company is still headquartered in Anaheim.

VANS SHOES

Swing by Anaheim’s popular Manzanita Skatepark and you’ll likely see multiple people sporting the iconic white-andblack checkered Vans that Sean Penn wore in 1982’s “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” Back in the spring of 1966, brothers Paul and Jim Van Doren partnered up with Gordon Lee and Serge Delia to open The Van Doren Rubber Company right here in Anaheim. This shoe retailer manufactured its products in-house and sold them directly to the public. The sticky soles kept riders securely on their skateboards, and the shoes eventually became synonymous with skater style.

YOGURTLAND

If you’re a fan of fresh fruit on your frozen yogurt, thank Phillip Chang. He founded Yogurtland in February 2006 after noticing the increase in healthier alternatives to ice cream, and he revolutionized the category by introducing fresh fruit as a topping option.
