With Main Branch's Adult Take & Make Crafts, you'll be able to try Acrylic Pour Painting this month. So what is it, and how does it work?
You can use acrylic paint that's premixed or buy ingredients separately, according to Main Branch Adult Services Programming Coordinator, Shelbie Reed. You put it together with water or another medium to help thin the paint. For this project, instructions will be included.
You'll layer each paint color one at a time into a plastic cup. Once you have all your layers, you place the cup on top of a canvas and flip. Allow 15 to 30 minutes for the colors to mix, and then you'll pull up the cup and let the paint flow. You can tilt the canvas to cover the entire surface.
"The fun thing about this project is that each time you try it the result will be totally unique," Shelbie said. "You can add effects to the paintings like bubbles or glitter. There really are no limits to what you can do with an acrylic pour."
The technique can be used on anything, such as mugs, flower pots or tables. You can do it on almost anything you like. You can even take the skill and learn to do a resin for kitchen countertops or other bigger projects.
"I've been really working on my ability and I've learned a lot since the pandemic started," she said. "I can't wait to share this with you. You're really going to love it!"
Watch social media and our calendar for the Take & Make craft bag release date. Call (501) 758-1720 when the project is announced, and we'll set one aside for you since supplies are limited.
