Wildcats United! 50 Years In The Making, And It Worked Out Perfectly! North Little Rock Library Maker Space Project Donovan works in our Maker Space. He recently assisted a library patron named Candy. She was planning the North Little Rock High School 50th Wildcat Reunion and was looking for ideas on how to make the event special. Candy has really gotten involved in the library. She’s participated in several of our classes and programs. Someone told her about our Maker Space, but she didn’t realize just how much we could do to assist with her reunion planning. Needless to say, Candy was very excited when she found out we had the ability to help her design things she needed for the event. Donovan helped Candy do a mock up of the Wildcat logo that she was able to transfer. He showed her how to make several banners on our oversized printer. Someone donated 200 mugs for the event, but there was no print work on them. Again, he modified the Wildcat logo and showed her our Cricut machine. Candy was able to cut sheets of vinyl and make logos for mugs. Donovan showed her how to “weed” the vinyl she used and how to place them on the mugs. She was very happy about the result! Donovan shared, "I really enjoyed working with Candy. She was delightful and a lot of fun. I was happy to help her and see their project come together. My favorite thing about this project is that I know it helped the community and spread the word of the many things the library can do to help others."
"Donovan is magical! We couldn't have done any of this without him! " - Candy
Happy 50th Class Reunion North Little Rock Wildcats!
Feeding the Community: North Little Rock Public Library Amboy Summer Cereal Drive The North Little Rock Public Library Summer Cereal Drive is underway now! All donations will be given to the Amboy Food Pantry to support local families. This guarantees that your donation stays local and goes to kids in our community. There is a huge need for food, especially during the summer months. Most kids are out of school and do not have access to school meals. Families on a fixed income may not be able to supplement the demands for extra food.
The library is all about kids, families, and staying connected with the needs of those in North Little Rock. We need your help to meet those needs! Reaching people in our community helps everyone win. Pick up a box (or 10!) and drop off at either the Laman or Argenta locations of the North Little Rock Public Library by July 2.
Third-Friday ArtWalk at Argenta
frenetic
Art exhibit by Shelley Mouber Join us at Argenta Library for a free opening reception during Third-Friday ArtWalk, from 5 to 8 PM on July 15 to welcome Shelley Mouber and her frenetic exhibit. The show continues with free admission in the library gallery through August 5. Shelley, a self taught artist, has been making art objects since early childhood. Her uncle, a renowned sculptor and set-designer is amongst her earliest influences. Her use of non-traditional materials, vibrant color, and allegory to construct content continues to influence her art process. Shelley stated, "In an overly manufactured society, I find the repurposing of materials, a crucial way to reinstall meaning through discard. My current works are a form of analog collage on board, canvas, and paper. Contextually, my subject matter is derived from much of what our current society regards as marginalized, disregarded, or disenfranchised. The content of my work strives to advocate for individual freedoms and inclusivity that are dismissed from popular culture." Shelley currently resides in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Intruders in the Dirt:
The Architecture and Landscape of the Arkansas Delta photography exhibit by Brian Cormack
We are happy to showcase the work of North Little Rock native, Brian Cormack. Brian Cormack's photography exhibit Intruders in the Dirt: The Architecture and Landscape of the Arkansas Delta will open on July 14 in the Laman Gallery. This exhibition is the culmination of over 15 years spent taking photographs across the Arkansas Delta. The photographs have focused primarily on the architecture of the Delta and the buildings and structures that have been abandoned or are threatened to be torn down. Included in the exhibition are photographs of notable buildings like the Hotel Pines and the Saenger Theater in Pine Bluff and the Riceland Hotel in Stuttgart. The exhibition also includes humble and seemingly forgotten places like abandoned farmhouses and country churches. Several of the places that been photographed have been torn down or destroyed since the photos were taken. Cormack's goal was to document these places, to show how the passage of time is affecting the buildings and landscape of the Delta, and to perhaps help these places be saved before they are gone. The Delta region of Arkansas contains a rich and vibrant history, but many historical places could soon be lost. This exhibit will be up through September 23.

Staff Spotlight: New & Familiar Faces
DaMarco Nicholson DeMarco works in the Children's Library at Laman. DaMarco is a freshman at Pulaski Tech. His focus is on business. After Pulaski Tech, he plans to go to UCA to finish his degree. He comes to the North Little Rock Library from the Mayor's Youth Council, specifically the Mayor's Summer Youth Program. The Mayor's Summer Youth Program provides opportunities for young people in North Little Rock to have paid summer positions across different city departments. He's having a lot of fun at the library. He's loving that he gets to do something fun this summer and get paid to do it. His favorite thing so far is that he gets the chance to explore and look through so many different books. When DeMarco found out he was going to be at the library, he anticipated a quiet and slow summer. He found that, "it’s not as quiet as people make it out to be. It’s a whole lot busier than I thought it would be." Outside of library work, he likes playing basketball, football, listening to music (like NBA Youngboy), and hanging out with friends.
Caleb Dedman Caleb is a Library Assistant at the Argenta location. He's been working for the North Little Rock Public Library for over seven years! Caleb loves working at Argenta. Caleb is a floater, so he gets to help out in all areas of the Argenta Library. He's proud of Argenta's part in the Third Friday Art Walk and the growing Argenta Maker Space. Caleb aims "to learn our Argenta patron's names and have them feel like North Little Rock Library is his/her/their library of choice." He is a huge Star Trek fan. When he's not working at the library, he is probably binge watching Star Trek Picard or Star Trek Strange New Worlds.
