SUMMER IN QUEENSTOWN 2017 18

Fifty years ago Queenstown came of age as a holiday destination.

1967 was the year the Skyline Gondola opened for the first time.

In 1988 AJ Hackett and his mates strapped some rubber bands to their feet and opened the world’s first commercial bungy jumping operation. The theme of invention and adventure has continued to the point that now we have a full smorgasbord of outdoor activity and sun based fun to choose from. You can boat or trek to far off corners of the Wakatipu, race cars in Cromwell and go to music festivals in Cardrona... who would have thought this would happen, way back when Queenstown had 3 pubs that all served the same beer, same food and even played the same music.

hook. My favourite part of summer in the Wakatipu is the long evenings, perfect for garden bar lounging or cruising by the lake edge. There is no need to rush a meal or miss out on fun activities when the days are fifteen hours long. Welcome to summer in Central Otago.

However, navigating the choices and finding the “local” recommendations is not always easy. In the pages that follow you will find our tips and tricks to making the most of your time in Queenstown and the surrounding district. The Kelly Mcgarry

Foundation The Kelly Mcgarry Foundation was formed as a registered charity following the tragic death of New Zealand freeride mountain biker Kelly ŒMcgazza Mcgarry in February 2016 The Foundation¹s aim is to provide the means for people to experience the same enjoyment and personal fulfilment from mountain biking that Kelly achieved and was so passionate about, ether by providing financial assistance to New Zealand based mountain biking clubs and organisations for trail development or by organising events to allow people to participate in a social, inclusive and fun mountain biking environment.

The Queenstown Mountain Bike Club and the Kelly Mcgarry Foundation have come together to create McgazzaFest.

McgazzaFest is an annual, 3-day mountain biking event held in Queenstown, New Zealand. Held around the anniversary of Kelly¹s passing, it is held as an opportunity to remember, celebrate and honour his legacy with social and participation based mountain bike events to bring people together.
