Future Frankton. Frankton has experienced many changes of late, and it seems inevitable that more change is expected. The type and pace of change can be overwhelming to some. This change, coupled with little or no opportunities for input from Frankton residents has caused stress within our community. However, the recently announced Frankton Masterplan allows us as a community to change this. QLDC is currently canvassing the wider community on what makes Frankton a great place to live, work and play. Here is our chance to have our say in Frankton’s direction for the next 30 years and beyond. I encourage anyone who has an interest in Frankton to get involved and pass on your ideas and views that would enable Frankton to be better. QLDC, Shaping our Future and the Frankton Community Association have teamed up and are hosting a Community Forum at Remarkables Primary School Hall at 7pm, 25th September. Get down there and have your say. So what makes Frankton great? For me, it is home; surrounded by a majestic environment, full sun, a family friendly lake shore, open spaces to be treasured, a river and trails for exploring, with schools shops, and cafes, all with the potential to be accessed without the need of a car. However in areas of Frankton, you do need to be nimble of foot and fearless on a bike, to access these places as the crisscross of roads and tarmac that has severed Frankton makes it all too difficult for most, the fall back solution being the car, compounding the problem more. In the short term, I would like to see these links improved and established so the community is not confronted with the barrier of traffic. Long term is where we can start to dream big. My thoughts turn to the lake front and rivers edge. A place where people can meet, interact, explore and discover. Inviting trails that lead up from the lake shore or river to the commercial areas, to shop, or grab a bite to eat, or drink if so inclined. Ferry travel to wherever you want to go; or perhaps a monorail? Or a gondola system, establishing further links from Frankton to the east, west, north and south? The opportunities are endless. Finally, as we go about our lives, please do take the time to reflect on how fortunate we are to live in this special part of the world. If you feel you would like to make a contribution to your own local community, do so, do not hesitate. The people you meet, the knowledge you gain and the opportunities presented are invaluable. I know this page is all about whinges from whingers, but… If so many of these issues are bugging you all so much, then please go find another town that • Isn’t growing excitingly • Isn’t full of (in your opinion) irritating Asians, Americans, Brits, Aussies, Aucklanders, brown people, fat people in lycra or everyone in general… (but all who generally contribute towards the bread on (y)our table). • Perhaps that other town also may not be filled with (in your opinion) so many racist shopkeepers, thoughtless greedy and oppressive employers or hopeless councellors… So go elsewhere! In fact that other town may not be full of tourists or businesses or employers at all; without which feed and fuel our business economy. How wonderful; you could have the streets to yourselves!

There are towns in NZ like this; dying because no one wants to live there. (Ohura, Otira, try those… You wont have any parking issues, tourists or aeroplane noise!) We used to say that Queenstown was filled with happy friendly people, but not according to the regular entries from keyboard warriors on this page. Muldoon famously quipped in the 70’s of NZ’ers choosing to leave NZ for Aus, that they “would probably raise the intelligence of both countries”. Me thinks that if the whingers left town and found somewhere else to grizzle about, the rest of us could just get on enjoying this fabulous place. In my experience of living here over a few decades; the core of Queenstown is filled with awesome hardworking decent folks. I meet them everyday. Problems? Lets put them in perspective huh? Roses do have thorns. Enjoy that.

Dave During the Neil Finn show in Arrowtown recently there was a group of middle aged women cackling and shrieking at high volume during a beautiful song Liam Finn was singing. A couple of people told them to shut up but they were so rude, obviously didn’t give a shit and carried on. Liam Finn called them out after the song and gave them shit over the mic. Christmas Function Ideas FUNNIEST CHRISTMAS PRESENTS. TRUE OR NOT. Description First, make a list of everyone’s names at the party with a fill-inthe-blank line next to it. Then go around the room, having each person state their name and the funniest Christmas presents they ever received. As players announce their gifts, write down whether you believe it is true or not next to their name. The person who guesses the most correct answers is the winner. Example There are eight of you at the party. You write down everyone’s names, then a blank line next to each name. John goes first, saying his worst presents he received are an empty box, a worn pair of shoes and tickets to the broadway show CATS. Everyone writes down what they believe is the lie. Then it’s Amy’s turn. Then Matt’s turn, etc. Go around the circle until you have something written down for everyone. Once your list is full, have each go around the room saying which was their lie.
