Queenstown is renowned for its scenery, but it also has some incredible restaurants and cafes that are worth celebrating. Other regions across New Zealand have Hospitality Awards, and we thought it was about time we brought them to Queenstown. The Queenstown Hospitality Awards celebrate the outstanding hospitality professionals who make a positive impact on the local café and dining scene here in Queenstown. The best part is that they’re open to anyone in the industry – from owners, to crew members, to suppliers, to establishments. Each has an opportunity to be celebrated for their contribution in creating a world-class hospitality industry in Queenstown. We believe the industry is in the know and who better to judge the best of the best, than those who live and breathe the hospitality industry every day. Although the awards are organised by the Restaurant Association, they’re not limited to just member participation as we genuinely think that the more businesses involved the better, as the ultimate objective is supporting the industry. Of course, we want the public to be involved as they’re so important to a thriving hospitality industry. That’s why we have introduced the First Table People’s Choice Award and invite the public to vote for their favourite establishment. This will be awarded to an establishment that excels in customer service, consistency in food preparation and delivery, welcoming ambience and style, attention to detail and is always willing to go that extra mile. Online voting is available via the website (www.hospitalityawards.co.nz\queenstown) for both industry and the public, closing midnight Sunday 20th May. Our industry is experiencing a skills shortage and we think an important part of working towards alleviating this is by highlighting the successes of those that work in the industry, including business owners. Running a business can be tough, particularly in our industry; the awards ceremony also provides an opportunity for those who work in it to relax and enjoy an evening that’s all about them and their successes. Winners will receive a coveted “Chevron” trophy, representing a stripe indicating rank or length of service – a symbol of excellence in the industry which we hope the public will come to recognise. They will also be listed on the Eat New Zealand website, a movement dedicated to promoting New Zealand’s best food, drink and culinary destinations to the world. The winners will be announced at the awards evening, held at Skyline Queenstown on Monday, 28 May. Tickets to the event are on sale now, to purchase or for more information regarding the awards please visit www.hospitalityawards.co.nz\queenstown. And don’t forget to vote for your favourite Restaurant or Café and support the hospitality industry here in Queenstown.
QT’s local Hurling team raised $1754 during a charity match for Ronald McDonald House recently. The next Hurling charity match is at the rec grounds on 9 June where they’ll be raising funds for the Wakatipu Youth Trust. Pictured Declan Murray, Rachel Reynolds, Layla Wheeler and Conor Wheeler.
