START BY FILLING OUT THE FAFSA

Millions of students each year turn to the Federal Government for loan or grant assistance. The first step for every student seeking financial aid is to create an FSA ID and then fill out the application, otherwise known as the FAFSA®. The form is free to submit and used by U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens to apply for federal, state, and college-sponsored financial aid, including grants, work-study, and loans. It must be completed annually for every year of college.

Once you fill out the FAFSA (and indicate Lakeshore’s School Code 009194 on the application), you’ll receive an email from our Financial Aid Department notifying you of your eligibility for loans, grants, or workstudy programs. FAFSA payments are mailed directly to the Financial Aid Department and will be credited to your account. If you have questions or would like to meet with a financial aid specialist, please contact:

Be sure to have your Social Security Number and 2024 Federal Income Tax information available.

One FAFSA application covers State and Federal awards.

Never pay to fill-out the FAFSA the application process is free.

You must be accepted into a financial aid eligible program to receive aid.

Financial aid payments are sent directly to Lakeshore College and applied to your account.

What’s the Difference?

Deciding how to pay for college is

PELL GRANTS

A Pell Grant is a type of financial aid you don’t have to pay back (as long as you meet the requirements).

Grants are funded by the U.S. Department of Education...not Lakeshore College.

Usually awarded to undergraduate students with significant financial need.

The amount depends on factors like your income and enrollment status.

LOANS

Student loans are borrowed money that you must repay, usually with interest, starting six months after you graduate or leave school.

Can come from the federal government (like Direct Loans) or private lenders.

Available to a wider range of students, not just those with financial need.

You typically repay loans in installnents after leaving school (though interest may build while you're studying).

An independent student (over the age of 24 not married and has no children) with an Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) of $35,000/year could receive $1,105.00 with full-time enrollment.

An independent student (over the age of 24 and married with one child) and an AGI of $94,000/year could receive $1463.00/year with full-time enrollment.

A dependent student (single parent with three children) and an AGI of $52,000/year could receive $3698.00/year with full-time enrollment.

A dependent student (married parents with two children) and an AGI of $60,000/year could receive $1849.00/year with half-time enrollment.

A dependent student (married parents with two children) and an AGI of $78,000/year could receive $370.00/year with full-time enrollment.

WORK-STUDY PROGRAMS

Work-Study Programs allow you to work on campus while minimizing loan amounts.

Hourly wage is $14.95/hour You can work when it’s convenient around your academic schedule.

Earn up to the amount of your awards.

Gain experience while paying for college.

OTHER SMART FINANCIAL SOLUTIONS TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

Interested in an on-campus job? A variety of departments need work-study students such as the library, marketing, child care, Fablab, facilities, etc. If your awards indicate you are eligible for "Work-Study (Federal)," you may apply online at Careers.lakeshore.edu/jobs

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS

Learn a trade as an apprentice. An employee will sponsor your education while you work. You’ll combine on-the-job training with on-campus learning...and earn a paycheck. dwd.wisconisn.gov/apprenticeship

SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are offered through Lakeshore College’s Foundation, community-based organizations, and private donors. You can qualify through academic merit, financial standing, and career interests. Filling out one online application in the Spring and/or Fall provides access to 70 Foundation scholarships. Additionally, students should inquire about other scholarships, like our Promise Scholarship, with their high school academic counselors prior to attending Lakeshore. lakeshore.edu/lakeshorecollege-foundation/scholarships In the 2025-2026 year, Lakeshore College awarded $700,000+ in scholarships to more than 248 students — 64% received full tuition

EMERGENCY FUNDING

The Foundation offers emergency grants that provide limited finanical assistance to students who are at risk of dropping out.
